First, we learn that not everyone is at risk this season. Not Jack Bauer, for one. Three more seasons have been set: http://www.eonline.com/News/Items/0,1,18762,00.html But here we go through a terrorist conspiracy in which the President is complicit. Sounds like Oliver Stone helped dream up the script. And we have a toadie for the Pres in charge at "formerly CTU." Karen Hayes is playing the role formerly played by the late Ryan Chappelle: the insider who isn't evil but is actively working against Jack. At least it sorta makes sense now why the President was willing to sacrifice innocent lives at a shopping mall as well as his own wife. Mike Novick: dupe or co-conspirator? And where is Jesper Isberg when the actual President (not the illegal usurper) needs him? Soylent Green: recycling America, one person at a time.

I dont see Mike as a co-conspiritor but that would make for a very very interesting twist indeed. More interesting than President Doofus being the mastermind. Even when he was explaining it away to Henderson, he came off as laughable and uncertain of what the hell he was doing. I would expect a terrorist mastermind to have more balls than that.

Good episode last night. I loved seeing Secretary Heller back for this season; I'm looking forward to see his confrontation with Logan next week. I really enjoy watching Audrey and Chloe conspire... We've been seeing that dynamic much more recently. I loved Chloe's reaction to Homeland Slimeball #1 when "exiting" the bathroom.
Like dragonflies, I'm still not sold on the Logan twist. Not yet. There's still more information that we need to know, but the whole twist seems really, really farfetched and implausible, even by 24's standards. I'm going to need an explanation soon, or I'll be somewhat disappointed in this season. I just can't get over all of those earlier episodes, with Logan praying with Mike and all...

Trying to make sense of the plot line: The President and Henderson where at the top of the conspiracy. Cummings, Nathanson and Schaeffer were underlings whose knowledge of the whole scheme hasn't been clearly established. At least, they served as buffer between the administration and the terrorists.
I heard Logan say to Henderson, "Cummings thought he was in charge". So who had the idea to have Schaeffer play with the canisters to have them detonate in the terrorists' camp? Cummings only? That would mean the President wanted the terrorists to use them against Moscow. But then it didn't really go out of control when Henderson killed Palmer as Logan also said. It was still on track until the terrorists saw they had been duped by the underlings.
All the attacks on US soil were improvised and the only one Logan was probably happy to help was the attack against the motorcade until his wife intervened. It would explain why he asked Jack to stay on and help find the terrorists.
Some have asked why would the president do that as he is already the most powerful man in the world. President of the world is a step up even for him.
Three different agendas somehow working together still doesn't really make sense but there is at least a direction the writers are trying to keep. I'm still bothered by inconsistencies, the terrorists relying on McGill's keycard when they couldn't know he'd even be assigned to CTU as one example. A lot of filler action that doesn't serves the plotline but it is exciting.
I must have missed something, if so then please point it out but that is what I saw.

I like your reasoning for several of your arguments but one thing that I can't explain away with regard to Logan and Henderson's roles is that the spy that try to implicate Audrey as part of the conspiracy. She was working with Henderson, he told her to use Audrey if she got caught and she also was working with the terrorists to distribute the nerve gas. If she knew about the terrorists plan to use the power plant, one could imply that President Logan also knew and thus was sanctioning attacks on US soil.
With regard to McGill..I can see how he was planted. He was appointed by the President himself and was called several times by the President and told to reign different people in. Logan obviously knew he would micomanage CTU to the point of making them ineffective so the plan could go off. It wouldn't be too hard to imagine that they didn't already know about his sister and her habit either though again that ties the President back to the terrorists plan to attack the US since he or his people would know the tendencies of McGills sister from their background checks. They could reasonably expect that she would go to him for money and he would as he'd done many times before, give it to her giving them the opportunity to mug him.
The thing that keeps coming back to me though is that Logan would have to at least been complicit in every attack that day and not just the attempt to let the Russians get the nerve gas or take out the Russian President.

Those are other inconsistancies I find hard to swallow. The terrorists even knowing Colette could help is surprising since they definitely had no plans to use the gas in America before that day. It's not has if she was advertizing!
The Henderson connection to Colette and the plan to frame Audrey doesn't go with my view of the President's plan to have the terrorists attack Russia. It would work more if the plan was to place himself above the constitution and impose dictatorship through martial law. Then why use terrorists that were targeting Russia? It's not has if no terrorist group could target the US.
Yes, the president could've set-up McGill but there are so many variables that no amount of planning could've garanteed success. The sister could have been in such a drugged state that day as not even being able to place the call. More probably, McGill could have reported simply losing his card and cancelling its access. (Why didn't he??) Yet paralyzing CTU became vital to the terrorists' plan. It also implies a certain coordination between the president's action and the terrorists. Bierko didn't appoint McGill.
Ayak is right, the plot isn't very logical and we should just enjoy the ride, I guess.

I'd be very surprised if he didn't kill them. He *might* have spared the daughter, but I would be shocked if Evelyn turned up alive. Even if the taped conversation is found, Evelyn can still implicate Logan.
