"24 Episode 3.24: Day 3: 12:00 p.m. to 01:00 p.m. " |
Season Finale May 25I'm starting this thread a whole week early because there is so much speculation to get through. Here are the previews so far. I will keep adding as I find more stuff. Jack is faced with a horrible dilemma as he and Chase chase down the virus, and Tony could face the death penalty for failing to maintain national security. Source: FOX he and Chase "chase" down the virus- who writes this stuff? As Jack Bauer's third long day comes to an end, the question is how many more lives will also? Although the last courier of the virus is contained in Jack's ordered lock down of the subway station, the deadly messenger still has the vial in a crowd of hundreds. And he can be identified only by Saunders, who gives a prophetic warning should the man elude capture. After an understaffed CTU experiences a snafu, Tony gets a temporary reprieve to rejoin the case, and Chase and Jack come to a final excruciating and gruesome decision with, of course, the clock ticking down. Source: TV Guide Online hidden text: Things are going to get pretty rough for Chase, he'll survive, but won't be as "handy" anymore. Here's the bad news- FOX is moving 24 to Monday nights and won't start the new season until January according to TV Guide Online: A NEW HOUR: It looks like Jack Bauer is about to get a much-needed break. Fox, which announces its fall sked tomorrow, may follow ABC's lead with Alias and delay the launch of 24's fourth season until January, Variety reports. What's more, the network is toying with the idea of moving the real-time thriller from Tuesday to Monday to make room for the new medical drama House. Fox may also shift The O.C. to Thursdays at 8 pm opposite CBS's Survivor and NBC's Joey/Will & Grace combo. The network's logic here is pretty straightforward: Short of bringing Oliver back, this was simply the fastest way to kill the show. I'll have more hidden text later

1. "Jack Bauer" |
I'm going to add a sub-thread for each major character and story line so we can compile our speculation about the finale.Jack Bauer Things have been going back and forth about Jack. There was some speculation that Keifer Sutherland wanted off the show and that Jack would get killed off this season. Or that Season 4 would be a flash-back to the time period between season 2 and 3. Most indications now seem to point to Jack surviving season 3. But what about Jack's heroin habit? From TDT: - Always manages to find his way in front of bullets, tree limbs, exploding druglords. - Ryan: Fox considering Jack-less Season 4. - Seemingly immune to actual death. Unless he's not. - Judging from Tony and Michelle's seeming invincibility, looking good. Post anything else you have on Jack Bauer here.

Liked:- Nifty 360 degree camera angle on Jumpin' Jack at the school. - Keifer's breakdown in the car. I mean, the guy has had a rough day. That was the episode Fox will submit for Emmy consideration. - He saved the day, of course! Didn't Like: - Wanted a little more dirt on the relationship between Jack and Saunders or what happened in Kosovo. Never completely understood Saunders' motives\rationale.

Liked:-That he resigned. I called it. He had to. David is just too good to be going on with all that bad stuff in his presidency. - Now that he is out of his shoddy little LA office, we can get a good storyline with David Palmer. Let's see the man run or do something physical next year. Didn't Like: - I really thought they were going to tie in the Mandy\Ugly Hand storyline. They showed it in Ep. 1, so I thought it was going to tie in someway. My DH even surmised that Palmer was carrying the antidote for the virus in his body...that was what Mandy had infected him with.

Kim BauerSeems pretty safe now. She might see some action in the field in the finale. She has some major boyfriend problems though. Her season 2 bf Miguel ended up with an amputated leg. Chase will supposedly end up with a... (well read below under Chase). From TDT: - Now pretty much irrelevant for the rest of the show. - Despite repeated attempts, Kim never dies. Also needs to be there to pine for Chase for the rest of the show. Post information about Kim Bauer here.

4. "Chase Edmunds" |
Chase EdmundsReally destined to suffer this season. First he's dating Kim- never a good sign. Then he gets shot through the hand- that healed up quite well didn't it? What ever happened to his daughter? Dunno. Pretty much abused and sold-out by Jack and almost shot dead by Jack. But he still keeps on ticking. From TDT: -Expendable. - Ryan rumor: Chase takes a bullet in the finale. - But what about the baby? Who'll take care of... oh yeah, there's always Kim. He's got the whole world's fate, in his hand! Let's get this over with. Chop chop! hidden text about Chase: In the finale, Jack and Chase track down the last vial of virus. The detonator is set to go off any moment. Jack and Chase attempt to difuse. Jack cuts a wire and Chase is holding the device somehow keeping it from going off- but time is up. They realize the only way to save themselves is to sever Chase's hand and run like heck. (yeah really) post info about Chase here

5. "Tony Almeida and Michelle Dessler" |
Tony and MichelleWhy weren't we invited to the wedding, huh? Well, looks like there was no mole this season, just poor, tortured Tony. At least he got his wife back. Made a miraculous recovery from neck surgery. From TDT: Tony- Already facing the death penalty, so what's left to lose? - Someone has to be the "good guy" at CTU. At least until he's the formerly good guy no longer at CTU. Prison, here we come! Michelle- Seems to have an impenetrable force field that keeps viruses from infecting her, or even touching her clothes. Already looking forward to conjugal visits. Post info on Tony or Michelle here.

Liked:- That Michelle was working it to save Tony's you know what. - That emotional good-bye. Finally we see that they do love each other! Plus, when Tony explained that she was alive and that the virus had been stopped and he could live with that in Jail, I actually believed the character. Good scene. Didn't Like: - Tony should have done something exceptional in his last few moments to save the day. Something that would have warranted a Presidential pardon. - Don't like the rumours that this couple are not returning. Love them, but do think that maybe their storylines have run their course. Although a bitter Tony-turns-bad storyline might be interesting for next season.

Stephen SaundersWho or what is behind Stephen Saunders' terrorist plot? The Drazens from season 1? Max from season 2? How much longer can Jack use his daughter Jane against him? Was he brainwashed in Bosnia? Is he trying to take over the world or someone else behind his evil plot? from TDT: By cooperating under coercion, seems to deflate ideas of him taking a bullet or two. - Well-equipped with weapons and a surprise henchman around every corner! Each more surprising than the last! post info about Saunders here

8. "RE: Stephen Saunders" |
The Stephen Saunders Theory I'd put this in hidden text, but it's only theory and if you've been reading everything else, this won't hurt you (plus it'd take a few minutes to look up how to do hidden text again). Jack and Stephen Saunders have history together. Stephen Saunders was a highly-trained British Intelligence Operative for MI:6. The U.S. informed it's greatest ally Britain that a covert mission called "Operation Nightfall" was taking place and the U.S. wanted a British operative because of the high stake target and for the two country's relations. Stephen Saunders was selected and was flown to the U.S and met with team leader Jack Bauer and was briefed on Nightfall. Jack and Saunders and the rest of the team shipped out soon after and were soon in Kosovo. Saunders saw this as a way out because he was on an unofficial mission and neither country would acknowledge his death. Saunders sold Victor Drazen's men the radio codes for Jack's mission but Saunders didn't tell Drazen's men what the mission was or when to expect it. Jack and Saunders and the special ops team landed in Kosovo and split up. Saunders went with 3 other men and Jack went with the others. Saunders eventually killed the men he was with and faked his own death. He knew that Jack had to see his body with the others because Britain would have had some suspicions if he had just vanished without a trace. Saunders left the Drazen compound with a new identity and a clean slate. He no longer could be chased by his enemies if they thought he was dead. Saunders lived off the money he saved up and the money he got from selling Drazen the radio codes for Nightfall. Saunders worked part-time as a mercenary and he was involved in Season One. He was the 3rd shooter at Dunlap Plaza and he killed Richard Walsh and tried to kill Jack Bauer. He worked off and on the past few years but when Season Three started he got a chance for a final score and revenge on Jack Bauer for killing his men in Los Angeles at Dunlap Plaza. Saunders is being financed by an un-known man and his objective is to unleash the virus in the U.S. and eventually the U.S. will pay a huge sum to stop the spread and Saunders missions will be over. But for Saunders things get personal when Jane Saunders gets thrown into the plot. The man financing has bigger plans and even Saunders doesn't know what the U.S. is up against. America won the Revolutionary War against Britain and a few British businessmen want to return there homeland to the world's modern superpower at all costs. 2002 IceCat Originals, Inc. 7. "Adam Kaufman and Chloe O'Brien" |
Adam and ChloeChloe wins the award as most annoying techie character since Sarah Gilbert played Paula in season 2. Adam sister is dying from the virus. Doesn't appear that either character is a CTU mole. from TDT: Adam- You wouldn't think there'd be another death at CTU so soon, would you? Well, maybe. But probably not Adam. - Expendable, but not in a risky job. Plus, someone needs to be there to bicker with Chloe. Eh, who cares? Chloe- She has to be a mole, because nobody pays attention to the office weirdo. - Being "misunderstood" is not usually punishable by death, even on this show. post info about Adam or Chloe here

16. "RE: Fox moves 24 to Monday night for season 4" |
Here's the relevant text from "The Biz":"The network presented three separate 2004-05 schedules to advertisers yesterday. Coverage of the Major League Baseball post-season, which now runs for nearly a month, has been an iceberg that Fox has had to navigate its fall launch around every season. Sometimes the result has looked like the Titanic. So several shows will get a running start in June and stay on through December. Most of Fox's returning shows will start after the World Series, with 24 not launching until January and running straight through May without a break. There will be several January launches, including American Idol, as well. Got all that? The "fall" shows launching in June are North Shore, a soapy ensemble drama set in Hawaii; Quintuplets, a comedy with Andy Richter as the dad of motley five-pack of teens; Method & Red, a fish-out-of-water sitcom with the hip-hop duo; and The Jury, a legal drama from Barry Levinson and Tom Fontana. Assuming those shows don't embarrass themselves off the air during the summer, here's what the Fox fall lineup will look like after baseball ends: Here are the network's night-by-night plans: MONDAY: North Shore will be the only drama alternative to squeaky clean 7th Heaven at 8 pm — an hour during which Melrose Place once thrived. If civilization lasts until November, reality horror show The Swan returns for another run at 9 pm. The fourth season of 24 takes over the time period in January with the hope that an uninterrupted weekly run can give the show some ratings momentum. Josh Schwartz, the creator of The O.C., will have a new soap, Athens, at 8 pm in January." It makes sense...kinda. 24 would do well not to have those 2, 3, and sometimes 4 week breaks right in the middle of the season. So I get wanting to run 24 straight weeks. The problem? 24 weeks from January puts you in the middle of June for the finale. The above blurb said that 24 is to run "through May". By my math, if the show started on the first Monday of 2005 (Jan. 3), it would be up to Hour 22 on Memorial Day (May 30), and wouldn't conclude until June 13. It appears that it's Fox's goal to have 24 run over into June based on this schedule. That's good news for those of us who have nothing else to watch from the middle of May until the Summer shows start up, but I'm gonna guess this will hurt Fox in the advertising dept. The show won't be anywhere close to finished when May sweeps concludes, so they won't be able to get top dollar, and with the finale falling outside of the sweeps ratings period, they won't get as much for the last few episodes as they might with a May conclusion. *shrug* That's their business, I guess. 18. "RE: Chloe" |
a few interesting tidbitsQ- why did they kill off Sherry? Director John Cassara - they felt they went as far as they could with her character (sounds like she's really dead) One interesting thing- they film two episodes at a time- John Cassara directed 10 episodes including the first 2 and the last 2. It takes 15 days to shoot 2 episodes. Actress Mary Lynn Rajskub (Chloe) was previously on the Larry Sanders show. She is just about as dorky as Chloe. Director John Cassara admitted it was great that on the show they never have to deal with L.A. traffic (LOL) Q- will the show ever take place somewhere other than L.A.? Director John Cassara- he's not allowed to say- but they have to shoot somewhere where the weather is very consistent over 8 months so it looks like the same 24 hour period. Director John Cassara- they do read the message boards, they do keep or get rid of characters based on fan reaction, Chloe was probably saved due to popularity with fans. Q- will they ever do a prequel season? Director John Cassara they thought about it but they can't because you would know that everyone survives- it wouldn't be suspensful.

19. "more from 24 insider" |
LAST EDITED ON 05-25-04 AT 10:23 AM (EST)Reports have surfaced from Reuters, E!Online, Digital Spy, and, well, everywhere, concerning the cast line-up for season 4 and the faces we'll most likely be saying goodbye to. The following link contain *hugely* spoilery information so UK fans are advised either not to click, or click at your own peril Courtesy of E!Online: Several series regulars were recently informed that their options would not be picked up for next season, a publicist for the Fox show confirmed Monday. Among the outgoing: Reiko Aylesworth (Michelle Dessler) and James Badge Dale (Chase Edmunds), who got the bad news before attending a Fox party after the network's upfront presentation to advertisers last Thursday, according the Hollywood Reporter. Joining them on the unemployment line will be 24 vet Carlos Bernard (Tony Almeida). All three figure to play big parts in Tuesday night's season-three finale. And while Fox remains mum on the characters' fates, all three are expected to make guest appearances during the fourth season, which begins its 'round-the-clock countdown in January. Other soon-to-be unemployed actors include recurring cast members Mary Lynn Rajskub, Zachary Quinto and Daniel Dae Kim, who all played CTU agents. The shake-up is par for the course on the real-time TV thriller, which has mercilessly killed off series regulars since the beginning. R.I.P. Teri Bauer (played by Leslie Hope), Jack Bauer's wife and season-one victim. Ditto, CTU's George Mason (played by Xander Berkeley) who committed hara-kiri in season two. Burn in hell Nina Myers (played by Sarah Clarke), killed in action earlier in season three. In fact, the only original thesps to remain employed from season one are Kiefer Sutherland, Dennis Haysbert and Elisha Cuthbert. However, Cuthbert is expected to be downgraded to recurring cast member next season to concentrate on her burgeoning film career. Most recently, she played a former porn star in The Girl Next Door.

I think save it, weren't they reattaching it at the end. I thought Jack said something about they had hopes that Chase would have use of his hand.

36. "what the heck?" |
...was the deal with Saunders? Did they never answer that? I got a phone call around 9:20 and missed about 15 minutes- but did they ever explain Saunders? agghhh!!!I did like the emotional part with Jack at the end though. here's the episode summary from FOX: 12:00 P.M. – 1:00 P.M. 12:00 P.M. Jack notifies Michelle at CTU that Rabens is still at large with the virus. He instructs her to have Saunders scan a live feed from the train station so that he can identify Rabens. 12:03 P.M. Brad Hammond takes Tony’s statement about working against the agency during the Saunders case. Tony admits to putting Michelle’s life ahead of public safety and national security. 12:05 P.M. Gael’s wife, Theresa, comes to CTU. She asks Michelle about her husband’s death. Michelle has Kim take Theresa to Gael’s work station to pick up his personal belongings. Theresa notices a computer monitor showing a profile of Saunders, and she realizes this is the terrorist. 12:07 P.M. A handcuffed Saunders is led to the Field Ops office. Chloe calls Kim for support, and Kim is forced to have someone else watch Theresa. 12:09 P.M. As Jack waits impatiently, Saunders looks at screen shots from all the men detained at the subway. Before Saunders can identify any of the faces, Theresa walks over and shoots him with a gun from Gael’s desk. Michelle radios Jack that Saunders is dead. 12:15 P.M. Palmer is briefed on CTU’s status. Wayne comes in to tell his brother that Julia killed Sherry and then turned the gun on herself. Although he is upset about Julia, Wayne explains that it frees them politically from being entangled in the whole Milliken scandal. The President is offended by Wayne’s callousness and dismisses him. Palmer calls his children with the grim news about their mother. 12:19 P.M. Jack secures the station and has every passenger thoroughly searched. Chase pulls Jack aside to let him know that after this mission he is transferring out of Field Ops. With a more stable job, he can look after both Kim and his baby. Jack says it’s between him and Kim, but he will support whatever Chase decides. 12:21 P.M. As the police officers corral the people in the subway station, Rabens opens up a blade and puts it in his pocket. He runs off. Jack notices that one of the men has disappeared from the line and he radios Chase. 12:22 P.M. Jack finds two LAPD down, and he and Chase go out of the underground station. Another man lies stabbed on the street. A bystander tells Jack that the man was killed in a carjacking. Jack takes the dead man’s license and radios the police. He and Chase get in their SUV. Jack calls Michelle to look up the car registration of the dead man. 12:28 P.M. Michelle asks Hammonds to release Tony because they are understaffed. Rabens escaped and she could use Tony’s help coordinating the tactical unit. Hammonds reluctantly agrees and sends Tony onto the CTU floor. 12:30 P.M. By scanning traffic cameras, Chloe and Adam confirm the car carrying Rabens. Jack and Chase tail him. Tony sends backup, and two CTU cars block Rabens’s vehicle. Rabens gets out and runs into a school. Jack and Chase follow, and the other agents lock down the building exits. There is no sign of Rabens. 12:38 P.M. Jack continues to search the school, as terrified students are warned to remain in their classrooms. 12:39 P.M. Chase enters an empty science lab. Suddenly, Rabens jumps out and slashes Chase in his gun arm. Chase drops the weapon and defends himself against Rabens. He throws the man’s bag across the room and the device holding the virus falls out. Nearly unconscious, Chase clamps the device to his arm. Realizing Chase just turned himself into an anchor, Rabens activates the device to release the virus. He is about to shoot Chase when Jack arrives and kills Rabens. 12:41 P.M. Jack goes to Chase’s side. The clamp on the device can not be unlocked. Jack radios Tony and asks him to contact one of the teams who have disarmed the other devices. An agent leads Jack through the steps of dismantling the device. There is less than four minutes until it activates. However, the green wire Jack needs to cut is not there because the device on Chase’s arm does not match the other devices. The agent looks for another solution. Chase tells Jack to leave, but he refuses. 12:45 P.M. Chase sees an axe in the fire extinguisher box. He urges Jack to use it. Jack is at first hesitant, but he gets the axe and chops off Chase’s arm. As Chase lies in pain, Jack runs off with the device ticking away. He radios for help for his partner. Jack enters a teachers’ lounge and sees a refrigerator. He throws the device inside and shuts the door. The device releases the virus into the sealed refrigerator. 12:51 P.M. Tony tells Michelle that he is back in custody and will be going to prison. Michelle is upset, and Tony kisses her. He is taken away. 12:53 P.M. President Palmer phones Jack in the hospital to personally thank him for all he has done for the country. He also apologizes for making Jack take the life of Chappelle. The President tells Jack that he is not seeking reelection, and he says that he hopes they can become better friends once he is a private citizen. Palmer gives a solemn look to Wayne and hangs up. 12:56 P.M. Kim enters the hospital and hugs her father. Chase is already in surgery, and the doctors are optimistic about his recovery. Jack says that he is happy for her future with Chase. “There’s some things I have to do,” Jack tells her. Kim waits for Chase, and Jack leaves. 12:58 P.M. Jack exits the hospital and gets into his SUV. The weight of the day overcomes him and he starts to cry. CTU radios, but Jack doesn’t respond right away. Finally, he answers the call to help interrogate Saunders’s couriers. Jack wipes his tears and heads back to work. See you in January! (I think I'll have to rent season 1 and season 2 on DVD again to get me through the next 8 months)

38. "more season 4 news" |
from CNN: http://www.cnn.com/2004/SHOWBIZ/TV/05/24/television.24.reut/index.htmlSources said that the actors who play Jack Bauer's (Kiefer Sutherland) CTU colleagues on the Fox drama have been informed that their options as series regulars will not be picked up for next season. Reiko Aylesworth and James Badge Dale, who play CTU members Michelle Dessler and Chase Edmunds, respectively, received the news just as they were to attend the Fox party after the network's upfront presentation to advertisers last Thursday, sources said. The two, as well as Carlos Bernard (aka CTU's Tony Almeida), could return to the real-time drama next season for guest appearances. Also up in the air is the "24" future of Mary Lynn Rajskub, Zachary Quinto and Daniel Dae Kim, who played CTU members on a recurring basis. Meanwhile, Elisha Cuthbert, who plays Jack's daughter and CTU analyst Kimberly Bauer, is fielding film offers and is expected to recur next season subject to her availability. She was most recently in theaters playing a former porn star in "The Girl Next Door."

Am I the only one who thought the finale stunk? I was disappointed with all of it. This was the weakest season so far, and I hope they can improve things next year. First step would be to get rid of the 24 hour format. It's just too limiting, and the novelty has definitely worn off.I don't feel like there were any surprises in the finale, and no real cliff hangers either. What motivated Saunders? Was he working alone? The Prez quits? Big whoop. His storyline was the worst of the season, even worse than Kim's troubles of seasons past. Besides the hand chop (ewwww) there was really nothing to this episode, and the little "poof" of the virus in the fridge just about summed up how exciting and anticlimatic this episode was.

>Am I the only one who thought the finale stunk? Nope. I had read rumors on another forum that turned out to be correct - how Saunders would die, Chase's hand, and Palmer's decision not to run for reelection. As soon as Gael's wife killed Saunders, I told Mr. Bebo the show was going to suck. The only plus side to knowing in advance was being able to give my dad a chance to get out of the room before the axe fell (since he's way too squeamish - can't even watch fake stuff like that). I did like Dennis Haysbert finally getting a decent chance to act, even though the whole Sherry and Julia are dead speech got lame, lame, lame. And it was nice to see a chink in Jack's armor, to see the guy is indeed human (even though he so easily can recover from death and addiction). The past two finales set a high standard, and this one came nowhere near it.
Have whip, will travel.

43. "RE: 24 Episode 3.24: Day 3: 12:00 p.m. to 01:00 p.m. " |
BWD - no new info on Saunders last night. I think this falls (as a lot of the show does) in the area of fodder for internet chatter. Now, I'll do a bit of a summary on the 24 discussion show that aired on the web after the show last night. The link is in a previous post I did relating to Chloe. First, Kiefer came on briefly via video to thank everyone for watching and that he loves making the show. The guests were D.B. Woodside who plays Wayne Palmer and Steve Kornish, a writer/producer. They discussed cutting off Chase's hand. As the writers were tossing around ideas someone came up with the concept of strapping the virus to his hand - almost immediately a few of the other writers came up with cutting off his hand. Then, they were concerned about network standards - would they allow this on TV? (Then, of course, they realized it was FOX and decided it wasn't an issue!) Actually, what he really said was the they had no trouble with FOX getting this on and it really got peoples juices flowing to watch it unfold. D.B. said he was sometimes surprised at the twists (I don't know that he, or actors confined to one "area" of the show always knew how everything else was unfolding except when there was script reference to an event). He did say that his character was actually a good guy, but he's also a mother f.. The goal was to give the president a character whose ultimate loyalty would not be questioned. He loved being on the show - he was accepted into the ensemble right on the first day. The writer went on to say how the actors were wonderful on the show. They approached the show devoid of ego - in fact, some would come to the director and say that they might not be sure that they were necessary in a scene or that a scene with them wasn't necessary - totally the opposite of what you'd expect. Write was asked who would be back - he said Kiefer is the only one signed for now. He didn't know about anyone else. D.B. said Dennis was great and they got along very well. He's very spiritual and grounded. Related to Jacks breakdown at the end - this was unusual and they are working on a storyline for next year that has a bit of romance so people can get a little closer to Jack - "what we all want". Questioned about some of the tactics used to support Palmer, D.B. said that his goal was to do anything (Wayne) that would keep him in power and unscathed - it was just a matter of seeing his brother as the greater good as the president. He's not quite sure Sherry is actually dead (I think this was playing to the audience). He said we should notice she was shot in the stomach and while she looked dead, she could come back. He also said that he and Sherry shared similarities so he felt very bad when she was shot. He noted that Sherry was not capable of divorcing David on an emotional level. D.B. said he had never worked with a group of actors who were more giving and generous with their time - and that started at the top and egos were never an issue (I guess ego IS a huge issue in the industry - who'da thunk it ) Writer - writing is sometimes very difficult because of time issues (an issue brought up the previous week). They knew very little of the travel could actually happen as it unfolded on the show, but it's the trap of the concept. He said Jack is a great flawed character - but because he gets results you excuse his excesses - hopefully. Someone asked if we'd ever find out who Nina was working for - he said maybe, but sometimes you don't want to go back to the well too many times. After all, the internet needs something to talk about (and by inference I think the same is true with Sanders, Mandy, etc. - they'd rather leave some story lines open rather than wrapping up everything totally). I wish I'd found out about this before the last few days. I can't find a site where all the "shows" are there for the viewing.

I loved this season and the finale. Though season 2 is still my favorite, probably because of the Michelle/Tony kiss I thought 3 was up there with 1. It's the only show on tv that makes me tired just by watching. Which is a good thing. So glad Jack didn't die. I was seriously going to be pissed if that happened. Man, is that guy getting hotter the older he gets or what Sniff, 8 months is a long time. Bawdy, I'll miss your hidden text for the whole 8 months. Thanks for doing these. TummyBreez
