I am so disproportionately excited about this finale! I guess I should see about getting a life. In honor of the event, I am wearing a Max Mara deconstructed skirt. But no mustache.

I strongly think we'll see 1st place Kara Sean, 2nd place my darling Jay, and 3rd to Wendy the Wicked Witch of the Midwest. But who knows?

This show was a superb companion piece to my other favorite, ANTM.

The producers are really the ones judging, so if Wendy wins, I'm a toucan. But they could definitely go either way on Jay versus Kara Sean.

I'm just excited about seeing the collections, and the "stand off" between Wendy and the others (although Kara needs to lay off the "You're going to need your soul" line now; twice is once too many for a snappy put-down).

Every time I go into Banana Republic now I think about Wendy and cringe.

It will be weird not tuning into to Bravo after Lost on Wednesdays.

I have a sneaking suspicion that Jay will win. I prefer Kara Saun, but I love Jay, too. As long as Wendy doesn't win I will be perfectly happy. If Wendy wins, I might have to make like that cocky twin dude on American Idol and jump out of a window only not really.

6. "RE: Project Runway Finale"
I think if Wendy won we'd have seen far different editing. They edited her to be slightly less appealing than Young Frankenstein's Frau Blucher. What's nice is that I will be happy with either of the other two winning. BTW, if any of you do not watch America's Next Top Model, I suspect you'd love that, too; each show advertised for the other because the producers know it's the same demographic audience. So, when you're feeling that painful void left by the conclusion of "Runway", give Model a try!

Unfortunately, last year, Model ran opposite "Lost." But I can't help that.

I caught it on the weekend re-runs about halfway through the season. I was all about Yaya. She just had that supermodel thing going on. I checked out the website for this new crop. I like Keenyah, Naima, and possibly Michelle. Lluvy has a VERY different look which will either work for or against her. I guess I'll try to check out re-runs again.

9. "Kara Saun Was Robbed!!!"
The finale was great, but I think Kara Saun had the best collection. I knew she was going to lose when they made such a big deal about the shoes. I think it was excellent planning on her part and it did not find it unethical at all. They're shoes, not a part of her line and the clothing line was what the judges were focused on. Jay's designs were a little too strange for me, but what do I know about fashion. And Poor Wendy, her stuff looked like things you could order from a JC Penney's catalog. They were fine, but very everyday.
I like Jay and found him to be very entertaining throughout this series and if it wasn't Kara Saun, I'm glad it was him. Oh, well... America's Next Top Model starts next week, right?

LAST EDITED ON 02-24-05 AT 02:24 AM (EST)

Well, I really want to agree that Kara Saun was the best. She was very consistent, had a definite look, and...overall perfection (nearly). But you know what, I HATE perfectionists. Jay has been my main man since the beginning. I'm so glad he won. Out of all of them, I think he NEEDED to win this the most. Wendy (HAHAHAHA SHE LOST!!! HELL YES.) has her own store goin' for her, Kara Saun is SO talented that she will go very very far. But Jay...what would happen to poor ol' Jay if he lost? He has a good future now, and I'm VERY happy for him. (man, reality show people that I love NEVER win, so this is a big moment for me too. I thought I was bad luck)

11. "Thoughts on the finale"
LAST EDITED ON 02-24-05 AT 02:58 AM (EST)

I thought there was no question that Jay's collection was the best. There were a couple of pieces that didn't work, but I loved the idea of the isolating headphones. I also loved the color matches and the weaving/quilting. It was unique. Plus, he came across as the only normal person, despite how "different" he is. Oh, and Julia looked great.

Kara made a collection of 20s/30s pieces. I thought they were totally derivative, although they were nice. And, if you hadn't seen the other shows, you'd wonder why everyone didn't hate Kara instead of Wendy. What an evil person in the final episode. The cheating with the shoes was just too much. I didn't think the choice was that hard, for all of the "acting" the judges did about the choice.

Wendy? Some good piecces, but some really bad ones. For example, instead of opening with a "wow" piece, I'd call her opening piece a "whoops." And the see-through blouse? How does that fit into an autumnal theme? However, she did a great piece for Nancy O'Dell last week. And Finley was really, really cute.

I'd have to say that Cara Sahn(sp?) Probably acted this way throughout the show be we didnt see alot of it. The shoes part was unethical for what contract they signed. I never felt she should have been on the show in the first place. She is a professional and has been out there for a while from my understanding. Anyway - I think there is definately a niche for all three of their clothes. Maybe cause I"m older - but I have seen clothing lines and thought - who the heck would ever wear THAT. That's what I though of Cara Sahns - so she is probably really good. But I'm glad Jay won. He followed the rules - was nice to people all the way through and his line in teh end was to me the best one.

Jay's line was pure fun and funk, whereas Kara's was more polished and sophisticated. The judges went for Jay's. I think it's that simple.

And didn't we all get an extra dose of schadenfreude when Tim and the judges intimated that Wendy's collection would befit June Cleaver on an off day?!

I lvoed her meltdowns during the final hours.

She's opening a shop?! Who in her right mind would want to declare, "I'm wearing a Wendy Pepper original" after seeing all of W's ugly ways of interacting with others?

(She has a sweet child, though.)

14. "Agree"
I'm not so sure I agree with the shoe issue, but the rest ITA with. I think that whole shoe bit was probably blown out of proportion. Shoes are NOT part of the collection, so she probably didn't think that applied to the contract. The collection is the clothes only. The shoes were an accessory and I'm sure she didn't think that it was an issue at all beforehand. I can see that point completely.

Jay's collection was better, overall. I did not like that he was so stuck on one color in each piece, though. That was certainly his downfall. LOVED the headphones - how creative that was! I figured I'd love Jay's stuff when he had the time to really flesh out his ideas. On the challenges, he just never had enough time to do what he envisioned and he'd said he was never really happy with anything he'd done in the challenges. His collection was definitely original and very "Jay" (aside from the color issue). I loved the blue knit shawl piece...that was very fun. I loved almost everything of his, actually.

Wendy. *sigh* she just doesn't get it. I did really like her last piece - the one worn by Melissa with the buckle top. I think she should have opened with that one instead of that piece of crap that she paraded out there first. And the second one (looked like a rain coat)? Ewwwww.

Kara's collection was nice. I don't know fashion well enough to know whether it was too Gucci or not. I think her problem is that she's too 'normal'. I think they probably did have a hard time with the decision, though. Kara was very consistent and was able to do a lot of great things within the confines of the show's limitations. She also is very 'perfect' when it comes to her clothes. Everything is just so and it comes together very nicely. I think Jay won becauase he's Jay. Unique, different, fun, and his ideas are very creative.

*runs over and hugs Ayak*

Ayak's a fashionista! Who knew? And I am in complete, total, 100% agreement with him (perhaps a first?). I thought Kara's collection was beautifully executed and boring. Fur fur fur leather leather leather. I thought it was kind of smart to tie in to the whole aviator/Hughes flick thing, but also contrived.

Jay, on the other hand, produced absolutely amazing stuff. The colours! That skirt with the circles! It was fun and edgy and different and incorporated street chic with rural American textiles; a fresh eye. By choosing Jay, they truly went with something different and special, as opposed to competent, consistent, and safe. And my sense of fashion is the edge is where the fun really lies...

I was so surprised Jay was from Podunk, Some Cold State, pop. 16. It makes his vision even more impressive. He is like a duck in water in the New York fashion scene, notwithstanding his rural background. But he remains so genuine.

The editing was fascinating. Started agreeing with Wendy and hating Kara Sean. Shows you how much the editing has to do with how we feel about reality show "characters." Wendy's mom was a hoot -- and I'm thinking Wendy is a lot younger than I'd previously thought. And yes, Finley was adorable, but we didn't get tooooooo sticky with that. The final shadow of Finley skipping off stage was very poignant.

I liked the judges in this show v. much. They gave real comments and picked what I truly believed was the fresher, more dynamic fledgling designer. I even like Heidi Klum as a "hostess" now!

Anyway, I thought it was a Grand Finale, indeed.

Doing happy dance model roll for Jay this a.m.

49. "RE: Thoughts on the finale"
Ayak,

I am happy that Jay won, but I must say, I don't think that Kara Saun initially intended to cheat. She designed those shoes and boots, and did have the contact she knew from DollHouse to make them for her. I believe instead of trying to present an invoice, she should have asked immediately what her options were, before being told. She was correct to say, well if the contract says no donations, what about Michael Kors donation of shoes?

What I didn't like is Wendy taking the total opportunity to be as insulting to Kara Saun as she could. Eventhough Jay did not like Kara Saun using her shoes, he did not insult her. If you remember, Kara Saun, when to Jay, and asked him if he had a problem with her using the shoes. He said yes, and explained why. I say that Kara and Jay respected each other.

Wendy, I still believe, is a very dangerous person. I actually believe she is crazy, and capable of anything. I don't care how beautiful her clothes are, I will never purchase anything by Wendy Pepper. She really TURNED ME OFF. For someone to use motherhood as a way to get to know people to find things to use against them, is pure evil.

15. "RE: Project Runway Finale"
Agree with everyone and am glad Jay won. His collection was the most original and cutting edge. The minute I saw his collection I thought he would win. I think he learned the most of anyone from this competition. Kara Saun may have peaked too soon but with Jay coming in close seconds all those times helped him in the end.

Remember, it was a VERY close decision, as the judges said. Kara Saun was flawless as usual, but lacked originality and I think that's why she ultimately lost. The judges LOVE originality, even if it's weird.

Wendy's was ho-hum, blah. She really shouldn't have been in the final three. The show made a mistake with the last competition by having a guest choose a winner. If the judges had had more choice and input, I don't think Wendy would have been chosen. Austin should have been in the final three and it would have been a much better finale.

I have to say the fighting really got to me last night. I'm so glad that that didn't happen for most of the season. I felt it detracted from the show because of all the negativity.

Im soooo glad Jay won. I am not a Wendy Pepper fan but the fact that Kara Saun was so ficken holier than thou bugged the cr@p outta me I can understand Wendy being a little older than the others and feeling like this is her last chance to make it as a desinger so she went all out not thinking about everyone hating her I can understand Wendy I did not however understand or agree with Kara's reasoning on why she should get special treatment with the shoes I was very satisfied w/ the ending I loved jay's patchwork coat

18. "RE: Project Runway Finale"
Well, I am going to get some brickbats here, but that's ok.

I really disliked Kara Saun last night. Her personality was horrible, evil Wendy hit it on the head with her "entitlement" comment. Kara was cheating with the shoes and she knew it perfectly well, but she felt above the rules. I also thought her clothes were lame. Personally, I found all the leather/fur to be, at best, politically incorrect.

I didn't think Kara's clothes were appealing either. They were a cohesive line, which was evil Wendy's undoing, but I found Wendy's best pieces better than Kara's best pieces. None of Kara's clothes looked attractive to me, not sexy, and not very modern either. Jay was head and shoulders the best.

I knew immediately Jay was going to win with such an unflattering Kara Saun edit, and such a flattering Jay edit. But the lack of suspense didn't bother me, I was glad Jay won. His background is intriguing, especially considering he worked in internet porn, apparently from his isolated home in Freezingtown, Pennsylvania.

This show was so the bomb! Honestly, it has been my total favorite show of the year, better than Survivor or ANTM. Most excellent!

19. "RE: Project Runway Finale"
Well, it was no surprise to find Wendy came in last place. Wendy's collection was the only one that many people would buy so naturally, she came in 3rd. Jay's clothes were crazy and creative, however they were ugly, unflattering, and just plain silly. No one would ever wear any of Jay's clothes, unless they were playing a clown in a low budget flick. Which is the reason he won of course, most clothes shown on the runway are not made to be bought, only seen.

I watched the finale with 12 of my co-workers in Boston and all of us agreed no one would ever wear anything Jay made. A few girls thought maybe they could manage some of Kara's designs. And everyone agreed all of Wendy's were the most pleasing, except for that see-through dress.

So, basically crazy, ugly clothes will win every time. I do agree with the judges when they said Wendy's clothes had great commercial appeal, I predict they will sell extremely well in her store. Jay may make headlines in the future, but Wendy's clothes will be bought and worn by more people, and she will make the bucks.

I saw another runway show on another network recently and the males were wearing the legging type things that Jay put on many of his models, so it goes to show the fashion world likes ugly things that people would never buy.

Hi Cloudbug. Welcome to the boards!

I disagree with you about Jay's clothes. In my post above I said I thought he was original and cutting edge. My prediction is that Jay will be a trend and style setter and that his designs will be very much in vogue. He will be copied. Historically, many original designs that were thought to be ugly, swept the fashion world later on and became in vogue. He stands out.

My favorite's personality wise was Jay, Kara Saun, and Austin.
I believe, it is possible Kara Saun did not read the contract. That's what happens. She designed the shoes to match the outfits, but I don't see how she thought she could fool the Project Runway sponsors, with that invoice. Overall, I don't think she is an evil person.

Wendy Pepper, I can not stand. I believe this woman marked her own daughter's picture to gain sympathy from the others, because she was feeling isolated, because of what she did to Kevin and Austin. Vanessa, in my opinion, was right on, when she suggested that perhaps Wendy marked her daughter's picture. If someone had accused me of doing that, I would have been outraged, yet Wendy sat there with a sick smirk on her face. She did say, she would use being a mother, to her advantage. For one, I would never, ever purchase anything from Wendy Pepper no matter how beautiful. Her behavior on the show was terrible. She plotted from the very beginning, to get to know people, to use it against them. Vanessa had her pegged early on.

I was routing for Kara, Jay, and Austin. I am o.k. with Jay winning. He was alot of fun to watch. I do think Kara tried her very best to be above the back stabbing. That is important. Austin, I really liked also. I thought he showed great sportsmanship to help Jay out when he was in a bind for a model. I think that is totally commendable of him.

WENDY PEPPER IS DANGEROUS. AN EVIL PERSON. DID YOU SEE HOW SHE USED HER DAUGHTER, BY PICKING HER UP, AND WALKING OFF THE RUNWAY WITH THE MODELS. THAT WAS TOO OBVIOUS>

LAST EDITED ON 02-24-05 AT 02:19 PM (EST)

This show is so good is brought me out of the archives and the lurking mode to add my 2 cents.

I completely agree with Ginger (hey Ginger, miss all of you) that this show ranks up there with ANTM but better. I loved the concept and like ANTM the show exposed me to a genre that I previously had no interest in, fashion design and modeling. I was never one to purchase a magazine to look at models or fashion, know who the top models of the era were, and definitely not aware of any designers other than the standard, Tommy, Sean Jean etc. So with that said, this was a great eye opener and reading the various comments I can see that I am not the only one now more informed on the fashion designing tip.

As for the finale, I LOVED IT. I was for Kara Saun but understand why Jay won. I loved both of them. Kara is going to have an audience and this show just heelped with what she has already started in her career. I won't be suprised if we see one of her dresses on the red carpet for the Oscars this sunday. Jay on the other hand, if he had lost would return to small town American a might have become a reality afterthought. By Jay winning he is able to truly enhance his craft and reach the masses, whereas Kara who is already in Hollywood, has done work for big names and has better opportunity for building on this expreience. Keypoint was the editing of the judges stating repeatedly how professional, detailed, and consistent Kara is because they know she will continue to blossom.

IMHO Jay collection resembled more of what I had always thought of fashion shows, weird clothing that no one really wears but interesting to watch on a runway. I also loved how Jay didn't want his models to pose just walk out. Jay is the man.

For all who aren't aware, on the Bravo web page for Project Runway you can see Austin's collection. He also presented a collection as to not spoil his dismissal which came after the fashion show...so run right over to Bravo/project runway and check it out. Austin's collection explains his outfit from the reunion show.

God, I miss posting and sharing opinins with all of you. I just might have to make myself sit down and share for a couple hours a week. The problem is...this board is sooo DAMN addicting. If I start reading and posting I find myself stuck for 2-4 hours reading, posting, reading and laughing. Someone PM me with suggestions on how to manage my time on this incredible board with you WONDERFUL people.

Peace

Considering Austin only had 30 days and his collection wasn't going to show on TV I don't think we got his best. Wendy had what-6 months and he had 30 dys not to include that we don't know how much Austin was given to make his collection. I doubt that they gave him the same $8,000. I would love to see what Austin would do if he had the same amount of cash and time to put together a collection. It really should have been Austin, Jay and Kara but with any reality show, we needed the villian (Wendy)to keep us pumped up. Too many problem in pitting three favorites against each other.

Also to add to my previous post, Although i loved Kara I also thought she presented an air of entitlement with the shoes. There was a hint of arrogance that she could pull of getting custom designed shoes. I really think that we also held against her in the end. She became a little too confident, with reason but too confident which leads to cockiness. STILL LOVED HER WORK JUST NOT THE QUEEN SYNDROME CRAP.

I loved the finale. During the Kara Saun and Wendy fight, all I could think was "God, I hope Jay wins." I thought the hometown visits 1/2 to show day was a great idea and the show itself, along with all that led up to it, was entertaining. Put me in the "Kara Saun pulled a fast one" category. Though shoes are not part of a collection, they definitely have an influence on how we view a collection. They are a big factor in making an outfit look put together.

BTW, did anyone else notice that ANTM Cycle 3 schizo Anne was the second model to show up at the model casting? They also showed her full length for her audition walk. Oddly enough she wasn't chosen. Hmmmm.

Just happened to find the repeat of this finale on Bravo, so I immediately rushed over here to find a discussion thread. I haven't watched any of the series, so I won't comment on the designers, just the clothes.

Kara Suan's clothing was more high fashion. There were several gowns I could see on the red carpet tomorrow night, the white gown in particular looked like it was made specifically for Cate Blanchett! Or at least Cate Blanchett portraying Katherine Hepburn.

There were a couple of pieces in Wendy's line I could actually find myself wearing, especially the coral pant suit. (Hey, you guys told me I needed to stop wearing so much black and put some color into my life!)

Jay's line was so high concept, but it seems that's what designers put out there in the shows any more. Make it outrageous for the runway, then it tone it down for retail.

Does anyone know if there will be another season? Although I don't know if I have time to add another show to my schedule.

Kara Suck's true colors came shining through in the finale. I started watching this show at F5 and never understood the adoration. AyaK nailed it - totally derivative. So glad Wendy called her out for what she is - a self-righteous hypocrite. Don't sell your integrity sweets, you might need it some day.

I did find her arrogant in the way she tried to further circumvent the rules. She called her shoe buddy and asked for an invoice for $50, I think. She thought that would satisfy the judges.

I think she should have admitted defeat and used Michael Kors shoes, like the other two.

Her behavior was not endearing. It smacked of entitlement and ego.

I was disappointed in her, because up to this point, I thought she was cool beans.

So I found the hypocracy pretty repellant, as well.

But Tahj, she was just that harsh with everyone else! See, it wasn't the cheating that turned me anti-Kara, it was the really blatant hypocrisy. She even had me agreeing with Wendy! I NEVER wanted that to happen (*shudders*)!

I still think the judges should have yanked her shoes and made her select some of Michael's. No matter that they judges were instructed to ignore her shoes, they were there, and really made some of those outfits. Had Kara won, I would be jumping up and down about this.

Still SO glad the best Jay won!

But a big *smoosh* for gentle Tahj, too.

<what happened with Kara and the shoes

The dull version: Kara got Dollhouse Shoes to custom make rhinestone studded heels for her outfits - at no cost.

Tim and the judges objected. The contract specifically banned using personal favors for the collections.

So, Kara asked Dollhouse Shoes to create some invoices, totaling $15 for each pair.

Tim and the judges objected - that still violated the spirit of the contract.

For the interesting version, check out AyaK's summary in this same thread. It's quite entertaining.

To Feva4diva:

I am late finding this message board also. Kara Saun, designed her boots and shoes to match the outfits she designed. However, I don't think she read the contract, because it appears the shoes were made for her as a favor. The contract stated the participants could not receive any donations, or favors. Whatever they purchased, had to be from the $8,000 given them.

Kara's response was, well Michael Kors donated shoes to us, so what's the difference. The difference, was that Michael Kors shoes were to be used by all three, (Jay, Wendy and Kara Saun).

Kara decided to arrange for an invoice, for the shoes, and the invoice was that all the shoes were $15.00 each. The producers did not buy this, and said the invoice was unacceptable. Kara Saun was given three choices, 1) to have the models go out with no shoes, 2) to use Michael Kors shoes; 3) to use the shoes she designed, but with the instruction to the judges that her shoes/boots could not be considered while judging these final designs of this contest. Kara Saun choice #3 option.

Wendy Pepper and I must say Jay were very jealous of Kara Saun's shoes because the ones that Micahel Kors donated were not match for the ones that Kara Saun had designed. So it was an issue for Wendy and Jay.

Wendy took advantage of this, and started attacking Kara Saun.
Kara Saun, did go to Jay and asked if he had a problem with her using her shoes. Jay admitted he did, and explained it. Jay and Kar Saun are close, and it did not destroy their relationship.

It was obvious to me that Wendy is a very destructive person, and would do anything to isolate Kara. She forgot that it was Kara Saun who was trying to help her in the beginning.

Hope this helps you.

Taj,

I agree, I think Kara Saun was a very descent person. She did not purposely try to disrespect anyone. I actually belive she did not read the contract, and it was too late to fix. Option 3, actually, was the only option she could take at the last minute. If the judges had selected Kara Saun, certainly there would be some, most likely Wendy, who would protest.

I was routing for either Kara or Jay to win. I really like Jay also. Eventhough he was annoyed with Kara about the shoes, he did not disrespect her. Kara respected Jay enough to ask him how he felt about her using he shoes. He was honest, and explained why he didn't like it.

Wendy used it to totally disrespect Kara. For an older woman to behave that way, and one with a child to watch her mother behave that way is terrible. I totally believe Wendy Pepper is crazy, and my gut feeling is she marked up her own daughter's picture. My gut feeling has never been wrong, that I can remember. Again, when all 12 were brought back to discuss the Project Runway, Vanessa, also thought Wendy did that. Poor Jay could not believe it, and jumped all over Vanessa, but Wendy was not even outraged at the suggestion. She sat their with that evil smirk on her face.

Kara Saun just showed she can make mistakes also. She did try very hard to be above the back biting. I don't think she purposely meant to cheat. The invoice attempt was a fiasco, but then, remember she asked Wendy and Jay how much they paid for some shoes when they went shopping. They got some shoes for $9.00. She tried to invoice her shoes to $15.00 but those shoes and boots were too elegant to be $15.00.

I believe she was extremely patient with Wendy. I know if anyone is all in my face with their fingers pointing at me, and also cursing at me, I know I would have lost it with Wendy. Still, Kara Saun did not resort to cursing back at her.
