So, we have had 5 eliminations and 1 cast off. So of the 9 remaining designers, who do you think are the most talented?I have to say that Stacy, Katherine, Bonnie, and Bradley were probably out of their league. Their eliminations were justified. Malan? Even though I thought he was creepy on the first episode, he totally won me over on the 2nd episode, but then we had to say goodbye. His dress was the worst that episode, but I would have liked to see what else he could do. And Keith? They did the right thing by asking him to leave, but it was just too bad. He was talented, and good TV. A shame, really. Of the designers left, I think Vincent, Angela, and Jeffrey are the weakest. Yes, Jeffrey and Angela were in the top 2 groups for the INC challenge, but it was partly due to their team's efforts, not their efforts alone. Would they have been there without Alison, Michael, and Laura's help? I don't think so. And if Robert doesn't get it into gear, he won't make it to the finals. That leaves Alison, Laura, Michael, Uli, and Kayne. Tough call. All of these designers have been consistently strong since the first show. I would not be surprised if these are the final 5. What do y'all think? Handcrafted by RollDdice

I can see that too, although it seems to me that Laura comes off more as a sassy know-it-all, where Jeffrey just seems spiteful towards everyone. (Honestly, who could be hateful towards Michael?) And I saw her remarks towards Vincent mainly stemming from frustration about Alison leaving, since she seemed to be just about the nicest person in existence. Not to defend her; it was definitely out of line, but I guess I see more justification for Laura's comments than Jeffrey's flat-out disdain for the rest of the designers.

Have to agree with that, bampote! Although I'm disliking Laura more and more each episode, and she is getting SO boringly predictable! But somehow, she's won the judges over-go figure!I think Angela could actually be a dark horse in this competition-she's done pretty well on her own in the last few competitions, and the judges seem very pleased with her. I actually see her coming into at least 4th in the finals. My predictions: Jeffrey/Michael play-off Uli Kayne Angela Robert-if he can get his head out of Barbie's a$$ Laura (could be the other way around-Laura/Robert) Vincent-he's way out there, fashion-wise, as well as personality-wise. As much as I can't stand Laura, she was right-on about Vincent being really spooky. Come on-who 'gets off' on a dress?? Especially when it's made out of GARBAGE?? And then ADMITS IT?? YUCK!

I wish there was some way of knowing if that spat at the end was induced by some comment... And todd you make a GREAT point - Uli's designs are exquisite, but she's not getting any credit! Don't get me wrong, she has a super sweet personality, but she barely gets any air time - probably because she doesn't rock the boat as much as her cohorts! Not to compare Uli with Kara Saun, but on-screen Jay translated a much more vivacious personality, and his designs totally reflected that. And i think - some of you may believe this as well - his personality had to a LOT to do with his winning. I do like Uli's designs though, and i hope she gets SOME sort of recognition soon!

HELLO EVERYONE!WOW!....Where have I been while this show was on???? I FINALLY started watching it this season. Actually, I have to say I finally watched this whole season aver the past day and a half at the urging of my friends. HAHA! I'm enjoying every minute of it and was able to put togetehr a list of my own: 1.) Kayne - the most inspired designs...well, except for the "Fairy Costume"! HAHA! 2.) Uli - Amazing concepts and construction skills. 3.) Michael - This guys is good! He'll be in the Top Three for sure! 4.) Jeffrey - He's good, but who could wever work with him??? 5.) Laura - Skilled, but very boring designs. 6.) Angela - The biggest surprise of the show. Looks like she is not a "team Player" though, and can only work alone. 7.) Robert - A Mystery, indeed! I wanted to like him so much, but his poor design choices and boring styles are not going to last much longer. Is BARBIE really that uninspired of a dresser??? 8.) Vincent - Strange, strange man. Moments of brilliance are far to few.

LAST EDITED ON 08-18-06 AT 02:19 PM (EST)For me, so far the final three are shaping up to be: 1. Michael 2. Laura 3. Uli Jeffrey has talent but the judges may consider him too avant garde to design for a range of female consumers. So far his outfits have been solely in the rock n roll genre. He needs to pull off a few classic outfits to show he has some versatility. Robert is no mystery, really. He's quite dull. His problem is he's spent too long designing fantasy outfits for Barbie. He's lost touch with what real women want to wear. He even referred to his creations for Barbie as "drag," so he may be good at clothes construction, but he hasn't any real life creativity As for Vincent, he's kind of like a nicer Wendy Pepper. I like Vincent for the loyalty he showed during the challenge when Robert designed his "flight attendant" dress. When asked Vincent merely said he was happy to help. Loyalty. But he is so out of touch with what women want to wear. I have come to think the minute he declares a love for something, he's bound to have made a mistake and the judges will hate it. Kayne and Angela: don't care for either of them; it's just a matter of time before they are weeded out. Kayne still strikes me as only a pageant costumier. And Angela might try to apply some better dress sense to her personal clothes; she always looks like a rag bag on the runway. PS. I am sorry about Allison, though. She's a little doll. But it only shows one wrong outfit can be the end of you, no matter how talented overall you may be.

LAST EDITED ON 08-20-06 AT 08:04 PM (EST)1. Uli-consistently the best, but no personality. I wonder if her lack of pizzazz (in her person, not her clothing) will prevent her from winning. 2. Michael-At first I didn't think he was so great, but lately he has done very good work, he has a pleasant personality and would be a very different winner. I think he will win. *3* Alison would be my third choice because I liked her work. One screw up and she's out, unlike consistently weak Vincent, because nutty Vincent is "good TV." 3/4. Kayne/Laura-Both of them are pretty consistent, both of them are somewhat annoying. 5. Robert-He's very likable, but his work is nothing special. 6/7. Angela/Jeffrey-They both have personalities. Annoying, unpleasant personalities. Both of them do some good stuff, some weak stuff. Jeffrey is this season's "Villain" in the editing, so unfortunately he will probably be around for a while. 8. Vincent-At first, I wanted to like him. But he has been consistently weak. He should have gone instead of Alison. I am tired of him and don't think he'll show anything good before he's gone (next?).

Well, Todd in Uli's defense (if she needs defending) you must remember she's not American, she's a German. Her subdued, business-like yet still pleasant personality might be a reflection of her native culture.

LAST EDITED ON 08-19-06 AT 08:12 PM (EST)OK, here we go. Mind you, I haven't seen the paper episode in it's entirety yet, so I don't know what anybody's finished product looks like, plus I haven't seen any of the drama from that episode (meaning I'm behind in the "personality" department as well): 1) Michael - I loved the Pam Grier outfit, I think he really knows what he's doing and I think he'll definitely make it to the Final 3, at the very least. 2) Uli - Her stuff has been consistently great every week so far, I don't think she'll get cut any time soon either. 3) Kayne - Same as Uli, only he can get annoying at times. 4) Laura - Laura is my favorite contestant, but not my favorite designer. Her stuff is usually just very plain and simple. Then again, so was Chloe's. Again, just like Chloe, she's very good at the construction aspect, but her vision? I dont know...she's not edgy enough. 5) Angela - Has improved light-years since the beginning (i.e. Episode 3). She's had a few good concepts since then, but the key word there is "few". 6) Robert - Started off strong, but was lacking for a while. If he steps it up, I think he can make at least Final 4. 7) Vincent - Has been a complete doofus since Week 1, with the dumbass bucket hat. I don't know how he's managed to stick around, but he needs to get kicked off immediately. 8) Jeffrey - Just as annoying as Keith and Malan were before they were both eliminated. Get rid of him too. As for Alison, I really liked her but unfortunately they never really showed her that often. I don't know what her outfit looked like or why she got eliminated, but I do have the episode on tape and definitely need to watch it soon so I can know why. Das - Crazy? You can besta believe that.

1. Uli 2. Michael 3. KayneThe rest shouldn't make final three: Vincent because he's a nutcake. Jeffery because he's so full of himself. Angela because she can't sketch or sew or come up with anything other than a balloon skirt, with rosettes. Unless her teammates do the design/construction for her. Laura because she's always redesigning the same dress. Robert because he's DULL. Everyone is entitled to my opinion.

1) Uli: This girl can do it all, including working brilliantly with pattern and color. She's got an artistic eye for texture that I think the judges really, really like. 2) Michael: His forte is understanding what women will look good in, and more importantly, he understands what they would really WEAR. 3) Laura: She has taste. She does understated designs that come off classic and timeless. If you want to do ready to wear, this is the designer to choose, because the classic look will last more than one season. Of course, as someone else has already said -- that may translate eventually into "safe" which of course is the kiss of death to at least one judge. 4) Kayne: I like him, in spite of his annoyingly "catty" tone of voice. His designs have been consistantly good, with the exception of that horrid green number last week, and he does at least have an understanding of pattern, texture, and the female form. 5) Jeffery: He out Santino's Santino in the "I'm so frigging talented" department. However, he has designed some cool stuff, such as the dress last week. My main problem with him is his constant carping about everything and anything anyone else does. 6) Robert: There's a Robert on this show?! Nuff said. 7) Angela: She's got a gimmick. Oh joy, Grandma's afgan rosettes are going to make a comeback. She's done some nice pieces, but she cant sketch, cant handle a surger machine, and she cant seem to stay away from her gimmick unless she's got people flat out refusing to pander to her obession when working on a team. And you have to wonder about them even allowing her to continue sewing, considering that she breaks a machine every. single. week. 8) Vincent: Ok dude, your time has come. You may "get off" on your designs, but you obviously dont care if they make the woman you design them for fridged. But then, that doesn't matter as long as YOU come away satisfied, right?

I got this from another site, Okaychatt (and nice to meet you! )There are 4 different types of Sergers: 3 Thread, 4 Thread (or Mock Safety), 5 Thread (or True Safety), & 6 Thread (an unusual machine). All sergers are designed to automatically cut and sew the edge of the fabric in one pass. The 3 Thread Serger offers the ability to sew on stretchy fabrics. It may come with adjustable stitch length or fixed stitch length. They are also manufactured to meet specific purposes (i.e. High loopers for thick goods, Low loopers with short stitches for narrow rolled hems). Pullers (to assist in the feeding of thick or heavy fabrics) and metering devices (to stretch elastic or to turn goods inside out) are also built on surgers. 4 Thread (or Mock Safety) Serger has 2 needles and makes stitches that are both stronger and stretchier than the 3 Thread machine. They are similar in most other respects to the 3 Thread Sergers. 5 Thread (or True Safety) Serger is a combination of a 3 Thread Serger and a 2 Thread Chainlock machine. This machine finishes the edge and sews a 2 thread seam (chainlock) This is the strongest stitch available on a surger however it is not recommended for stretchy fabrics. Of course, the seldom seen 6 Thread Serger offers an even stronger stitch. They take practice to use them well, because the amount of thread on fabric can become easily jammed, and if I remember correctly, the needles are very tricky and can break or bend rather easily.

Thank you for the information on sergers. Years ago I sewed most of my clothing and a serger would have been a godsend at that time. Trimming and oversewing seams to prevent the fabric from fraying was so time consuming. I'm sure that anyone who did home sewing would occasionally (like me who finished projects at the last minute) go out with threads hanging from unfinished edges.

20. "RE: Rate the Designers" |
I’m a week too late for this thread, but I’m going to post anyway, because PR is one of my fave reality shows.1. Uli -- Surprisingly, Uli is my top pick, because she has delivered the most of my faves this season. I am someone who has been “afraid” of loud colors & prints, but Uli puts things together I would never think of and they look gorgeous. Uli was ROBBED this week. Vincent’s design was fugly & Uli’s was far & away the best “everyday woman” design. My Aunt is plus size & that outfit would look beautiful on her. 2. Kayne -- Consistently at the top for me (except the recycled atrocity , but he knew it was hideous, so I forgive him for it). He’s my Austin this year, just beautiful designs. 3. Michael -- He kinda crept up on me when I wasn’t looking. Understated, but very creative and fashion forward. 4. Jeffrey -- He’s getting a bit of a bum rap. He’s a little out there for me, as I am not into the rock-n-roll look for myself, but he puts a lot of detail and thought into his designs and he’s unique. Also, he was ROBBED last week. His newspaper dress blew everyone else’s designs out of the recycle bin. 5. Robert -- Poor Robert, the judges like to tear him down. I don’t think his designs have been as bad as the judges. Some may have been boring, but at least they looked good and were made well. Sad to see him go so soon.
6. Laura -- I have a closet full of clothes that look like what Laura creates. I like the clean tailored look, but Laura isn’t bringing anything new to the table. No creativity, IMO, she’s not a designer. If anyone is boring, it is her because everything is practically the same. Plus, I can’t stand looking at her concave chest with all those super plunging necklines she wears. Gross. Laura, you’re too old and have way too many kids to be walking around with that much skin showing.
7. Angela -- It’s a tossup between Vincent & Angela as to who is the tackiest designer. At least Angela had one good design (INC) and I still don’t know how she pulled that one out of her bum. 8. Vincent -- I still can’t believe he won last night, I really thought his dress was one of the ugliest up there. I think he did too much coke in the ‘80s and he’s still feeling the after effects. Vincent is just a mess.
Kind Creation of ARNutz

Hi ChattyChat, Glad to see someone that likes this show as much as I do(smile)I like your post on the contestants your camera really brings the pictures from the show up so clearly, I agree with you Uli's out fits are very colorful and well made I think that she is similar to Chloe that won last year all of Chloe's outfits were always so well made I think that is why she won. Laura is really very refined and glamorous her clothes reflect that, the coat on the first episode was the best I thought she should have won that challenge over Keith. She likes lace and glitter the things that make a lady really stand out, this will make her go far in the world of design. Kayne is a good designer he really made Miss USA's gown really look nice and I watched the pageant just to see how she looked in the gown, it was a great fit and he will probably get other people wanting him to make that same gown for them in a different color. Not sure about Angela at this point, she won the INC. challenge because Michael and Laura helped her, she seemed to work really well with them I guess you could call her the wild card you never know what she will come up with, she is not consistent, the dress last night was kinda flapper looking with all the fringe it was not a good fit but it looked okay. I did not understand why Vincent won, I did not see what the Judges saw. I think I kept seeing the paper dress that his Model could not walk in from last week in him, and I wondered why he was still there. Jeffery is so mean, I don't understand why he has to be mean. In order to be a great designer you need customers and being mean to people makes people not want to by from you. Robert's clothes are really well made but just have no real style to them, I hope he will be able to get his job back for designing Barbie Fashions. In my opinion Michael is really a good designer all of his clothes have been really well made, he has great ideas and every week he shows a great outfit I really think he should be one of the final three he is very good. We will all miss Robert's humor.

I love this show, and I guess that I am on the same page as most of you. 1)Uli- love her designs, the prints and flowing lines are fresh and feminine looking. Even though I don't buy/wear a lot of prints I would love to wear something of hers. 2)Michael-A very close second, (the only reason a second to Uli is that Uli has more of a defined 'look'). 3)Kayne - his guy can really pull in the glamour, but can he do sportswear? 4)Laura- Laura's talent that she is a very good at producing basically the same shape/dress over and over again. It is a good classic shape and always well taylored and sewn...but lacks innovation and really only works on hipless and bustless women. Looks great on the runway..but won't translate to the masses. 4)Jeffery - I can see his style, but...I just don't like it. 5)Angela - I just don't know how she's made it this far, I agree with whoever said "gimmicky" 6)Vincent- obviously on the show for comic relief, everything I mean everything...starting with the basket on the head, the Keebler-elf dress, the Ragged Ann dress and the walking pinata last week..has been like a bad halloween costume! The only thing I can say about the black/tan winning dress is that it was the least hideous of what he's done so far. Talk about boring...I guess the judges saw something I (we) didn't.
