"Episode 4: The Mystery has been solved"
Well, last night I was sitting on the edge of my chair to see who was asked to leave the show prior to a judging.

Is anybody surprised that it was Keith? And for such a stupid venal reason: possessing pattern books or guides and strolling off for hours to surf the Net (for fashion ideas, perhaps?)

Talk about a man on a self-destruct course! I had thought he'd be called on the carpet for that bit of haggling when the group shopped for fabrics at Mood. As it turned out, Keith managed to purchase his materials that were worth more than the $100 or so limit. He is the first designer to be seen bargaining with Mood's sales staff. But no! His major faux pas was having those fashion books.

Then Keith boasts that he always likes to break the rules a little; it came back to bite him. For all his swagger, I got the impression Keith was out of his depth in making womenswear; a few more challenges and this would have been made apparent.

Bravo (no pun intended) Project Runway. No cheats! Integrity all the way.

I have to say I was a little surprised that it was Keith. He's been pretty good, up to now, at getting away with his crap-ie the doggie leash that he 'didn't' make!

I really think the guy felt he was invincible and would be able to get away with whatever due to his looks, personality, whatever. Guess what? The cameras don't lie, sweetie! HA! Gotcha!!

I'm glad, for the sake of everyone else, he's gone. See how he tried to turn it around and make it look like Kayne and the others were ruining his career? The true signs of a sociopath in the making. Grow up, pretty boy, and start following the rules. This WILL follow you wherever you, and rightly so!

LAST EDITED ON 08-03-06 AT 11:50 AM (EST)

Frau Klum was very displeased last week when he punted the rules regarding the dog's outfit. I am not surprised she and Bravo would not put up with any more insolent petty illegalities. Now I'm left wondering if Keith was really good, and just lazy/not caring about this contest in particular, or if he actually has no talent but knows how to fake it really well.

Anyway, there are enough talented designers on this show to fill any void left (although I will miss comments like the "Bad Mommy" routine; I thought it was snarky fun).

ETA: Well, Tim's blog says Keith was, in fact, really good. Perhaps insecurity led him to retain the books. Tim also discusses the infraction of leaving the show and using the internet, perhaps for research. These activities are also both against the rules.

It took them until Week 4 to discover Keith's books? No, for me, the mystery is not solved.

I agree with the ultimate decision but I'm sure going to be watching Kayne a little closer, the guy who ratted to the producers.

I think the show moves faster than one challange a week for filming so I think it wasn't 4 weeks to find them, more like 10 days or so.

He may have been better at keeping them tucked away at first and got careless. I don't think he was flipping through them out in the common area or anything.

Of course, that makes sense - probably nowhere near four weeks. Guess I was a little shocked, is all.
Similar to how Alison appeared only, thankfully, I wasn't in her position.

Tim's blog also comments on Keith's so-called ripping-off of other designers' work:

And please let me put some rampant speculation to rest. It seems that everyone now knows about the sketchbook in which Keith presents copies of the work of other fashion designers. Nina, Heidi, Michael and I all noted this when we reviewed the portfolios of the semi-finalists. Keith presented four to six sketchbooks and look-books (I canít recall the exact number), and we assumed that this particular book was for inspiration. Fashion Designers have a responsibility to look at the design work around them. Many make notes or illustrations of the work that appeals to them. Itís not at all unusual. So, for us, that sketchbook was and continues to be a non-issue.

An interesting tidbit on Tim's podcast was that the producers initially decided not to eliminate anyone, since Keith was already gone, but then they changed their minds and didn't tell Tim. He said he was excited to be able to tell the designers that no one would have to go this week, but then was shocked when Heidi tells Bonnie she's out. Poor Tim, lol.

They should do what "Top Chef" did when one contestant had to leave early: bring back someone who was cut before this controversy. That would be Malan Breton.

Keith should have learned to comply with the rules last week when he was told that he might have won the competition if he would have designed an outfit for his dog, as each of the other designers did. Instead he tried to see how many rules he could break. Keith broke at least three rules this week by overspending for fabric, having a design book, and using the Internet. At first he admitted that he did some things that broke the rules, but later he described himself as a scapegoat. He still does not get it.

This scapegoat rigmarole Keith came out with was pure BS. Now he's cloaking himself in the role of misunderstood genius. The fact is he's an arrogant cheat who really is deluded to believe whatever he does must be right.

Being dismissed from Project Runway won't be the end of his fashion career but it does signal a definite lack of character.

I listened to Tim's podcast and probably before the dog incident they had gathered the designers and did a second round of turn in the contraband a few days after they started the filming.

So he had two separate opportunities to turn that stuff in and avoid breaking the rules.

What was interesting was the when he left the filming for three hours. I figured it was a sneak out at night thing, but from the podcast the way the filming went for this challange was Friday before Memorial Day was the first day of the challange then Sat. and Sunday of Memorial Day weekend they did all the group shots and filming the opening sequences and promotional stuff. He was gone for three hours during that. They got to location and he took off for three hours. Apparently for some of the groups shots they used one of the crew and photoshoped Keith's head in. May be interesting to take a look at some of those and see if it is obvious or not. All the times we get random they photoshopped it spoilers from other shows and now we have a verified instance of it. They brought back the ousted designers to do all the group shots and stuff. I would have thought they'd have done all this first, but it sounded like scheduling wise it worked better this far into the competition. Anywho he came back to the shooting and they finished up and later that night they did the you have to leave thing with Tim at the apartment.

I must say from listening to the podcasts I really like and respect Tim even more than I did just from watching the show.

At the very least, Keith should have remembered that there was a song by Nils Lofgren titled "Keith Don't Go." He should have taken that as a warning.
