"Season 3, Episode 1: Wall to Wall Fashion" |
LAST EDITED ON 07-15-06 AT 10:10 PM (EST)I am excited about this season! Some quick random thoughts: Malan = Austin Powers. I mean the teeth, the accent, ewwww! I like Vincent. The hat was a mistake, but I admire him for putting it all on the line at 49. He cashed out his 401k, ya gotta root for him! Keith was really smug. This year's Santino? Although much better looking. And Laura? looks so much better in the show than in those previews. I like her, though I am a mom that drives a minivan and dresses down. I was hoping Stacy would stay, but the fact that she couldn't use the sewing machines was a real problem. But I didn't think her garment was all bad. Jeffrey's garment? worse. I can barely look at him! ETA: Two days later and I realize that I meant Jeffrey, not Keith! Handcrafted by RollDdice

LAST EDITED ON 07-13-06 AT 03:12 PM (EST)Agree with much of what you said, although I think Stacy was the correct boot. Because I'm such a fashion icon and all, I know these things. I was surprised the judges were so impressed with Blue Sheet Dress. While it was lovely, and a departure from menswear and all, it seemed kind of the obvious, uncreative choice of materials to me. I liked the coffee filter dress. I totally agree re Vincent. We've seen from his 80s portfolio that he can do classic design, so to take such risks is really admirable. And minus the Ricky-Ricardo-Upside-Down-Wastebasket hat, the dress was kind of fun and whimsical. ETA: Just saw this on Tim's blog. Am I not cool, to be so attuned to Tim's perspective? "The entire look reminded me of the designs created by Ricky and Fred, and erroneously portrayed as Jacques Marcel custom creations, for Lucy and Ethel in a Paris-based episode of I Love Lucy." Anyway, we're off to a great start, and my only wish remains that the show started at 9, not 10. Way past my bedtime and I can't not watch.

Am I the only one or has anybody noticed this season's crop of models is especially homely? They ought to work out a deal with the girls from America's Next Top Model; at least some of those girls were attractive.

Malan is intriguing. He has dreamy eyes but he's coming off as very elitist. I wonder if that accent is real.

Now that you mention it... Wouldn't it be interesting if Malan isn't his real name? What if his name is really Fred? And I thought Austin Scarlett was affected....

Finally got a chance to watch the premiere. Thank goodness Bravo chooses to rerun their programming often. I had Tivo'ed the casting special and neglected to get the premiere episode. But have since seen it.Best Designs: Laura; Her jacket was noisy but flawlessly designed. Wearable Couture. Keith(Winner); Expertly executed dress. What he lacks in originality of material he more then makes up for in beauty, tone and fit. His personality is off-putting a bit. But I can also see the talent beneath the swagger. Michael; Someone who really took this challenge to heart and made a dress out of coffee filters that was absolutely gorgeous. (I think he should have won the challenge as Keith's lacked originality in materials and Laura's was only a coat.) Worst Designs: Vincent; The judges said it was cute, I just didn't see that. The fit was atrocious, the pockets were stiff and dragged the line of the "teepee" down. That's without even digging on the Hat. (I've seen a hat like that once. It was on my grandmother. Except the chains were attached to her reading glasses.) Katherin; The coat, although interesting, was yet another "comforter" item. I'd figure that people would want to be original and try to pick out different materials. But her dress!? Oh my gawd! Fugly! U.G.L.Y to the core. I'll call it the no-skid dress as it was bright blue and made of rubber. Looked like something to line your bathtub with. Kudo's on creative materials, CARP on execution. Jeffrey; Chic? Unh-uh! Well for a street urchin I suppose. There was one single straight seam or hem. Part of the grey front stripe went from underneath half of one breast to the far end of her cleavage, not centered. The floor hem was at 45 different lengths none of them flowed into the next. At least with Santino's designs you could see where his inspiration was coming from. With Jeffrey's first attempt it looked like fabric remnants shoddily sewn/hewn together. With frays and everything. Blech! I actually liked Stacey's dress. Even if the top didn't fit quite right and the skirt part was see-through. I wasn't nearly as shoddy as Jeffrey's outfit. (Dare I even call it an outfit?) Or nearly as ill fitting as Vincent's. It certainly wasn't as ugly as Katherin's.
Looking forward to the season. Looks like we have a fun (and talented) cast. But what is up with those models? I haven't seen girls that homely since the 6th cycle of ANTM.

I thought Laura, Michael, or the guy that works for Mattel should have won. Keith's dress was cute but to me he didn't use much innovation. I mean it was a bedsheet and some buttons. As for Jeffrey the tattooed guy, his outfit was worse than anything Santino ever did. As for Keith, he's not all that like he thinks he is and if he keeps that attitude, he'll be gone. It'll be a good show when him and Nina go at each other cause you know it's going to happen. My early favs to go to the final three are Laura, Robert, i think he's the one who works for Mattel, and maybe one of the young girls.
