"Makeover episode"
LAST EDITED ON 02-10-06 AT 02:57 PM (EST)

The designers are given a unique challenge. To makeover their fellow designers and to act as models for competitive designs.

To be honest, I'm so disgusted by the outcome of this episode that I'm going to bed. I'm happy for the winner...well deserved. But Mr. Ego should have been out.

Talk amongst yourselves, I'll post pics and analysis tomorrow as I would certainly violate the PG-13 standards if I continue tonight.
*************************************************

Okay, I’m editing to add in the photos and commentary.

Chloe – Winner
Designed for Nick

Chloe certainly deserved the win. Her look on Nick is very well done and the least scary of all the others.

Daniel
Designed for Chloe

Good thing he had immunity! This really had potential and it looked pretty good while he was working on it. But the hem wasn’t finished which is odd for Daniel, he’s usually pretty good with time management. Also the vest/top/corsety thingy cuts Chloe across the bust line and gives her the dreaded quadraboob look. I liked the colors on her though…if this had been made to fit Chloe a bit better, he would have been second choice for the win.

Kara
Designed for Santino

Well done, even if it meant that I had to look at Santino. At least he’s cleaned up a bit. The judges really liked this but I wasn’t crazy about it…it made him look somewhat human though.

Santino
Designed for Kara

Horrid. Dreadful. Barely stitched together. He should have been OUT. And why is he still there? I blame Kara. She should have called Santino on his lies on the runway. She should have said she hated it and that she thought is was cr@p. But I wouldn’t be surprised if she wanted to make sure that Nick was out so that she wouldn’t have him as competition for the next challenge. A final four between Nick, Chloe, Daniel and Kara would have meant her being out…no doubt about it. At least she stands a chance against whickety-whack Santino.

Nick – Out!
Designed for Daniel

Poor fabric choice, poor design, poor construction. I’m disappointed as Nick was my favorite. But sometimes we have to say Auf wiedersehen to those we love.

slice slice baby!

1. "RE: Makeover episode"

I have been no Santino fan. I felt he should have been out a couple of times already. I noticed a more positive edit this week and wondered if he was getting a redemption before boot, or an arc toward him possibly winning. Now I think he's a lock for final 3.

I was glad Kara did well, she has become the underdog I root for. But she's never been shown to have any vision, so I can't see her in final 3.

Daniel's was certainly the worst. Nuff said bout that.

Chloe's was cool, my style but a little more. I did think Kara deserved to win, though.

Santino's was ok, the construction was the weakness. Can't blame Kara for not wholeheartedly supporting him after he browbeat her all the time.

I find it amusing that Santino says she needed his help, when he just never stopped offering it so she didn't have much choice.

This was a good episode.

<I did think Kara deserved to win, though

Hi toddE. Except that most of the ideas were Santino's, even down to the fabrics and original "Make me a preppie" idea.

Kara didn't have to follow his thoughts. He's the one that suggested the shirt collar lining match the plaid hat.

Too bad the judges didn't know all that. They probably do now, so I'd say Kara goes next week.

Her collection for Fashion Week would be culled from fashion mags, except no where near as exciting.

Everyone is entitled to my opinion.

I'm glad you brought that up. I think Kara would be a great head seamstress under another designer's direction, but she needs someone else's ideas. While I loathed Santino's pansuit, his other design (i.e., what Kara sewed) was v. good.

If you listen to Tim's podcast, he gives Kara credit for the design. He said Kara did have input on the fabrics chosen and it was her idea to have Santino look preppier.

I wonder about the editing here. Sure, Santino had a lot of input, but I think everyone gave lots of input on what was being designed for them. Santino is overbearing but I think Kara deserves more credit than we are giving her. I think she could be in the top three if she performs well next week.

2. "RE: Makeover episode"
I'm right there with you, TJ. I am so thoroughly disgusted that Nick is out. I'm still reeling. I thought his suit looked really good on Daniel & if Nick had more time, it would have been sewed better. Come on, a suit, lined jacket and everything? He should have been given credit for his ambition. It's really a slap in Nick's face that some puckering -- and OMG no pockets? Call the pants police! -- got him booted over Santino's hideous jumpsuit that was falling apart on the runway. Yes, Santino is funny & creates drama, but he has created the most hideous & poorly constructed designs out of BOTH seasons & he just should have been booted because of that.

I'm glad that Daniel gives Santino a hard time for not being booted. I think all the remaining designers were shocked that Nick was booted instead of Santino.

Not only did I think Nick did a good job, but he was helpful to many of the other designers. Chloe did a great job & deserved the win, but if it weren't for Nick's guidance, I don't think she would have done as well.

Well that's 2 seasons in a row this show really pi$$ed me off by their ridiculous reasoning in getting rid of a fave designer towards the end of the season that deserved to go farther. Last year it was Austin who was robbed & this year, Nick. I'm just so mad, I have to stop before I say something I regret. . .

Oh, I'm with you guys on this. I'll wait until TJ's pics to elaborate, but let me state for the record that Santino should have finally been sent packing. I knew Nick was going though, when early in the show he had a confessional about how he had done menswear before and thus he had an advantage. Just still so sad.

Don't you think that they had the makeover episode just so that they could finally do something with Santino's disgusting looking hair and unkept facial hair? Thank God - he is still a troll but he did come out looking a little bit better!

I agree that Santino should have been sent home for that awful outfit he designed for Kara. I think his talent is mediocre and he does not deserve to go to NY fashion week.

I thought Kara's outfit for Santino was one of her best yet. I loved the pants! I think Nick is talented but wasn't worthy of winning.

I'm starting to think that the talent was better last season.

I'll say it again - that was Santino's outfit for Santino, sewed by Kara.

The judge de jour really liked the fugly pantsuit. It reminds me of when the guest judge picked Wendy's dress and Austin was sent packing.

My thoughts exactly. This was almost the same type of scenario, although Austin was robbed even worse, because his grammy dress was beautiful & Austin was strong throughout the competition.

I am disgusted by Nick's boot, but I was FUMING over Austin's boot.

I really feel as though Project Runway has become a farce this season. I think it is very clear that THIS season the producers are going for drama & controversy over actual talent & design. I have lost respect for each of the judges this season for their inane, insipid comments and the show as a whole. I'm just bummed that they took a good show & turned it into a DAW-fest and a joke.

first let me say that Nick was robbed!!! I really wanted to see what he could do when not under the time pressure.

Santino's jumpsiut was hideous but he real jaw dropper for me was when Preggie told Daniel that if he didnt have immunity that he would have been out!!??!! WTF?
he has done awsome so far and had one bad week. For that they wanted to boot him? and yet there Santino stands wasting space and annoying people

Hated Santino’s tablecloth/pyjama pants.

I agree that Nick’s suit wasn’t that bad.

Can’t understand how the judges didn’t “tear” Santino’s jumpsuit apart more with their comments.

The jumpsuit was so unflattering on Kara, from both the front and the back. She was completely ashamed to wear the jumpsuit. Everything was so bad about that jumpsuit. Santino's choice of fabric color, the design, the fit, not to forget it was literally glued on.

It was Santino’s time to be “out” this week.

Love reading everyones comments.

OK, I haven't seen the episode but couldn't wait to find out who went.

And I'm not surprised.

I think the editing of last week was a giveaway that Nick was going home. And I think (although we may have disagreed) the "vulgar" comment was an indication of the judges cooling enthusiasm for Nick's work.

I'll post more tomorrow after I (I hope) catch the rerun of the episode.

Well, I am definately with most of you on this episode and the outcome. Honestly, I think that if the judges based who goes on past performance and recent then a lot of other people would still be in this competition and people who are just starting to show potential would be out.

I really didn't understand the harshness of the judges towards Nick's outfit. So what it didn't have pockets or a button on the jacket, big woop at least it wasn't falling off Daniel. I thought the outfit accentuated Daniel's body and I dug the whole look, which I thought it looked a bit more mod than 80's but I'm no fashion expert. I personally didn't have a problem with the fabric, I didn't know men couldn't wear gray that wasn't dull and I did notice that the seams in the back looked a bit messed up but considering what he made and the time he had (designing, buying, new measurements, conferencing, hair, makeup ) I thought he did good. In all I thought the judges opinions were over the top and bullsh!t, I would really really like to know how they are making it in the fashion biz themselves with such poor decision making.

Chloe's outfit was the best. It completely suited Nick and was finely made, but had Nick not given her so much input I don't know how well she would have faired. I like Chloe and I think she is a lock to the final three if not winning. I have rarely heard the judges say a bad thing about her and they have praised her up and down.

Daniel's outfit was yucky. I really was disappointed in it, I guess I expected more from him considering his streak. I didn't really get that carmel leather looking vest with a red dress. I thought it made Chloe look a bit trashy, especially with the outfit being so tight. I expected him to make a cute yet sexy party dress and well lets face it that's not what happened. However, I thought it was crap that Heidi said he would have been out had he not had immunity. Wow, one really horrible outfit and someone goes never mind that they have delivered all the other times. Which is why I made the first comment above.

Kara's outfit was good. I didn't really think it was too much of a makeover for Santino and it was pretty simple. I don't dislike Kara but I really can't understand why she has made it this far. She lacks self-confidence and vision, if people like Nick didn't help her then I don't know what she would do.

Now for Santino. What the heck was he friggin thinking!!!???? That outfit was hideous. It exposed Kara's weak areas in her body, not at all flatering and the poor lady looked so uncomfortable. He spent more time concerned about what Kara was making him that he didn't even take what time he had to finish the outfit for her. What was he so worried about anyway Kara's outfit for him was very simplistic and she was very capable of finishing it on time. I honestly thought that Santino should have gone. His outfits have left the judges confused and disgusted more times then I can count so why he would stay out of anyone I don't know. Do I think that Santino is completely talentedless, no I don't. I just think that he needs to take his style and somehow turn it into something that works so people will want to wear it. Nonetheless he still should have gone.

I have come to the conclusion that the judges are snorting lines before judging and vision as well as thought process are impaired. I still can't get over the whole Nick's designs are vulgar bit and it will take me a bit longer to get over Nick going over that piece of crap outfit Santino taped together.

Could not agree more. I was totaly upset at the end of last nights show. I was stunned, But it looks like last years bunch give him a hard time next week(one can only hope). He came in with such ego I would hate for him to make final three. Nick deserved to at least make final four. Oh well only time will tell if Mr. Ego makes it(we can only hope not).

The only outfit I liked was the winner's outfit for Nick. It was sleek, well-tailored, the colors did Nick justice. Very well done

Kara: I didn't like it as much. I'm way too simple fashion wise for this show, but I thought the pants were pretty darn hideous, the grey shirt was meh. I did like the hat though. Still, it was done and moderately functional in certain places.

Daniel V: It wasn't good. Chloe could easily be flattered IMO with clothing, but this didn't do it. The form wasn't right, the colors didn't hit me correctly, it simply wasn't good. However, it is a load of crap that he would have (supposedly) been gone if he didn't have immunity. He's been the best designer over the past several weeks and has won numerous challenges. He should be the favorite to win.

Nick: I don't know. The suit was all wrong, but extremely ambitious. Having pockets, well, anywhere would have been nice. But I don't get the feminine comment, it looked feminine on the outside but it formed around Daniel V. very well. The fabric hurt as it just accentuated mistakes, and on this show, it's not necessarily what it is but how it looks. I'm not that upset about the boot.

Santino: What the hell was that? Not finished, literally falling apart, a poor attitude, trying to speak for the others on the runway, the color wasn't great, way too tight for my preferences (and Kara doesn't have a bad body). Just a walking disaster area.

If I had to rank this week from someone with no fashion background and no ability to dress well.

Chloe: A (Loved it. I'm not sure if I liked the pink on the back of the vest, but it was by far the best this week)
Kara: B- (I know many others loved it, but I can't imagine wearing those pants, I didn't like the top of the shirt. Still, it fit, it gave a distinct look, it stayed together)
Daniel V.: C (I liked the idea behind it, but he simply didn't take into account his model. It didn't fit Chloe, so it wasn't good)
Nick: C-/D+ (Good idea, looked decent, but not functional if it needed to be worn in a specific situation without it being able to button together or without pockets)
Santino: Incomplete (If completed, I still can't imagine putting it above Nick. Just not good. Maybe a D to F.)

Bob Factoid: The fishercat is the only creature known to have gone completely insane chasing its own tail.

29. "Disagree"
LAST EDITED ON 02-17-06 AT 06:16 PM (EST)

I'd missed this episode when it ran, and I finally watched it last night as a repeat. I have to say, I simply don't agree with the majority anti-Santino opinion here.

Far and away the worst outfit was Daniel's for Chloe. Looked trashy, fit poorly. On the other hand, no matter what Heidi Glum said, there was no way that they were going to boot Daniel (even if he hadn't had immunity), not after the great piece he made in the plant challenge the week before.

Nick's outfit for Daniel was blah at best and fugly at worst. Nick's outfit the week before in the plant challenge was hideous. At that time, the judges expressed the view that Nick might not have much talent ... and yet he came back with another bad outfit. No surprise he's gone.

By contrast, Santino's outfit for Kara was a real makeover for her. As he accurately put it, Kara comes across as a hippie -- and he tried to make her sexy. The outfit was poorly constucted, and it didn't fit well because Santino stupidly put himself in severe time pressure -- but Nick's outfit was poorly constructed too, and Santino actually had a sensible concept, unlike Nick. He could have been gone if Nick's outfit hadn't been so bad in both concept and execution, but Nick's was.

As far as Kara "speaking up" on the runway, I think she would have opened herself up to comments about being a bad model. She was quite open during the show about not doing anything to help Santino, and I think she thought that she could achieve her goal of getting rid of him without having to look bad in front of the judges. Wrong.

P.S. Santino's attitude reminds me of Frank Zappa.

11. "RE: Makeover episode"
Every week there is so much discussion on why one person was eliminated over someone else and we don't really know why. What are the judges looking for? What is more important to the judges? We see someone that has the potential for a great design, but doesn't have the skills to pull it off. Another designer creates a horrible piece, but it is made flawlessly. Yet another has a good idea, knows how to constuct it, but was too ambitious and ran out of time. It's a crapshoot on which one will leave.

So have a rating, say 1-5, on each aspect of the designs and tally the results. If one aspect is more important that others, give it a higher percentage of the overall score. Say design 40%, construction 20% and so on. Maybe the judges already do that and we don't get to see that. We are left with just their comments and the final results. But this would help explain their reasoning. Is design more important that construction? How much more important? Is past performance taken into consideration when making their decision?

I don't think it's too much to ask and it could be done in a number of way so as not to give away the end results.

I'm guessing that the judges make about 75% of the decision and the producers fill in the other 25%.

What I'd like to see is how much the Guest Judge opinions weigh. I think the guest judge had a lot to do with this week's decision, as did the producers.

It seemed to me that Santino wanted to make Cara look as if she was ready to joing the Fantastic Four. I am so over him already. I think that the producers wanted Nick or Santino out by the final three, couldn't have both of them. So they lobbied for Santino, he's more controversial and brings more ratings is my guess.

Chloe was my favorite, but I think she honestly might be out next week. (she might be this year's Austin Scarlett) And Cara= Wendy Pepper form last year. Won one challenge each, mediocre designs, not a lot of creativity, both had to pushed relentlessly by Tim Gunn, both shouldn't be in the top three. Cara does seem to have more of a soul, though.

Saw Heidi Klum on David Letterman last night and she was saying that today was the day that the three designers' shows are going up at New York Fashion Week. I really want to know who they are!!

Actually, the final four designers showed collections today, they had the fourth designer present theirs as a decoy. I've seen the collection at Getty Images, should be an interesting finale.

Yeah, they did that last year too, to keep from giving away the final three.

Quickly going through some of those pictures I think Kara's line is a nightmare. Definately not my style.

A couple of things from Tim's podcast--

It turns out that the designers decided to go get manicures and pedicures since they were all being made over. Tim was against it because of the time it would take. That's why some of the designers ran out of time.

He also said that Kara's look was supposed to be Emma Peel from "The Avengers." Too bad it didn't work. Tim thought it had a lot of potential but once again Santino put too much into it and ran out of time.

I just listened to that. That makes sense as to why they all turned out such cr@p this week (Chloe excluded).

What were they thinking?

What I don't understand is why Kara stood there, mute when asked how she felt in the outfit Santino made for her. When the judges asked her what she really thought, she said nothing. I really think that they wanted her to speak up. Santino sure as heck would have. If the outfit designed for him had come under as heavy criticizm as the one he designed, he would have trashed Kara into next week.
Kara should have spoken up, told the truth about that obcenity that she was wearing, and made Santino squirm like the worm he is!!

I'm still reeling from Nick's departure. Thought Santino was sure to go, with how the show was progressing. Then the final product he made was hideous. That had to seal it, I thought. But, nooooooo, Nick's out *sob*.

From the pics of the final runway show, I'm thinking Kara is the decoy, Chloe the winner. (Although a Daniel win would not surprise me, seeing as how the judges seemed to like his work throughout the season.)
