Why is Daniel Franco back? Who cares? He blew it last season, so why did they let him back in the game? He's already established, having designed for Saks 5th Ave. I want raw recruits, completely new to the scene. You know, people that really annoy (think Wendy), but consider themselves All That. Who will this year's Jay or Austin be? It will be hard to top those two personalities. Off to read more bios. See y'all on the runway! (Just had to write the first rant of the season.) :-> Everyone is entitled to my opinion.

LAST EDITED ON 12-08-05 AT 01:16 AM (EST)*waves to everyone* Hi! I thought I'd join you over here and discuss this show. I started watching it partway through last season and became a fan right away. Loved Jay and Austin. Very exciting to see them again tonight. (What EXACTLY is on your head this year, Jay? ). Glad they're doing well. Now, on to this season: Loved the first show! My pick to win is Santino, he just seems to have a look (and an attitude, by the looks of previews *see below* for next week) about him. Also, a fan of Chloe and Nick, so far. Did they show highlights of the season in the previews? It seemed to me it was not just for next week. Anyone out there doing any spoiling?

Hi Rebel Clown! Welcome.I loved the first show too. Looks like there are some very interesting personalities. I absolutely agree so far with who they eliminated. Heidi was boring, John should have kept his mouth shut--I would have liked to have seen more of him, and Kirsten just has no clue what she is doing. Is Andrae a major drama queen or what?! I'm not sure I can continue to put up with his histrionics. Right now I like Chloe, Emmett, and Diana. Diana is like a little mouse. She's quiet and shy. I would love to see her grow and blossom so I hope she lasts a while. I'm kind of glad Daniel is doing better. He was so obnoxious last season and he's completely reversed himself this season. He's practically servile. Moves courtesy of Syren

Morning, Tahj, baby....my other fabulous Runway friends...I stayed up past my bedtime to watch, too. First, did Heidi not look adorably pregnant? Sort of like a sugarplum in that dress. Second, I think they chose the correct winner of this particular challenge and I kind of like that dood (I never get the names this early). The elimination was also correct; a mercy killing, in fact. GREAT to see Jay and Austin (well, Wendy returned too, but who cares about Wendy) on the preliminary judging panels. Still not sure how I feel about Daniel's return. Yes, he is in full grovel mode, but that dress was godawful, esp. around the oobies. Curious how the 40ish guy who Tim's known for 20 years will do. Also not sure about the paired-for-the-season-with-same-model change. I thought seeing how the different model/designer combos worked was an intriguing facet last year. So glad the show's back!

Hello Lovely Ginger.Yeah, that whole model thing is odd. So it must mean that when a designer gets eliminated so does the model they've chosen. Tim knows is Emmett, the 6 ft 6 in. guy. I like him. Wonder if Heidi will have her baby during the course of the show. The first winner, Santino, is good but he lost major points with me when he said they didn't want to pick him twice in a row. How insensitive and insulting to Chloe!

LAST EDITED ON 12-08-05 AT 06:19 PM (EST)I was "IN" heaven last night with the premier. Unfortunately, I fell asleep before the end of the 2nd hour & missed the results of the 2nd challenge. It's on at 4:00 p.m., so I'll watch it very shortly. I still think it's lame they let Daniel back after his attitude last time & others deserve a chance (hey, he blew it). He especially should have been cut with that poorly made dress that he had A WEEK to make! I thought the first 2 cuts were justified and they actually would have been justified to cut at least one more (Daniel) for not making a real statement with a full week to impress the panel. My favorite design was actually Nick's dress. Absolutely gorgeous. My standouts so far are Nick, Santino & Emmett. The women seem a bit boring so far (I watched the audition clips on the P.R. site and they were also BORING -- need more personality). Diana is intriguing with her mix of science to fashion & uber nerdiness. Kara seems to be filling the shoes of Wendy. Edited to add: Oops, I mean, ZULEMA seems to be filling the shoes of Wendy -- what a b!t@h! I'll weigh in on the "clothes off their backs" ep in a couple hours. Great start to season 2. Also added: Finished ep 2 & what was with all the CRYING by Andrea?? Did he forget his meds? I shake my little tush on the catwalk. I'm too sexy for my cat . . .

I'm so happy it's back!!! AND we got 2 hours! what I love most about this show is that after the bickering and drama etc we get to SEE what it was all for they are not just running around doing useless tasks nor are they one giant advertisment (the apprentice) I really like Diana she's such a nerd (not a bad thing in my world) and I really am interested in her combining technology and fashion I think thats pretty cool The Crying man needs to go next I muted the tv during his stupid attention whore meltdown oh and whats up with the commentary when people are leaving the runway? did they do that last season and I wasn't paying attention?

Can Franco grovel any lower? Geesh! Humility is one thing. Total abjugation is another.I still don't see why he's in the show again. He's already well established as a designer. His clothes are already hanging in a big department store. Can't remember which one. The foreshadowing will take care of him - "He doesn't make good use of his time." "I pay a lot of attention to detail." I must be the only one in the universe that did not like Chloe's dress. It looked too sixties for me. Big deal - big, oval black pockets. I totally understood the lawyer's decision not to cut up that scarf. If she had used it as a belt or other accessory, the panel would have ripped her for not using the fabric as part of the design. In contrast, the guys who used their vintage leather jackets had no real sentimental value attached to them. I LVOE this show! Everyone is entitled to my opinion.

LAST EDITED ON 12-09-05 AT 03:39 PM (EST)<she still could have used it without destroying it. Well sure, but I think the judges would have ripped her for not being innovative enough. I don't think she'd have the same issue with $100/yd fabric. <turning her sloppy Jennifer Beal-ish dress into something that looked couture and had great lines. Was there anything more to it than an A line type dress with big, black, oval pockets? Again, I realize I'm in the minority on that dress. I thought the black weighed heavily on the rail thin model's hips. <note to self and future competitors: make sure everything you wear is fully lined so as to take advantage of this challenge I'd love to see you on the show! I think having a designer's opinions will add a lot to our discussions. Nice to have you here. ETA - I rewatched the show, and there's more to Chloe's dress than I noticed last night. You're right - it deserved the win. I also want to add that Santino needs a lesson in humility. "They just didn't want to give me first two weeks in a row" indeed. Meltdown Man needs to go, and SOON! I wish gorgeous lawyer lady had done something interesting with the lettering from "PORSCHE". There are tons of ways she could have anagrammed some/all the letters and made more of a statement than "rock 'n roll groupie". Obviously piecing played a role in every design, and she could have appliqued letters anywhere. Unfortunately for her, the only anagram now applied to her design is "CORPSE".

Barbie! Who didn't look at all like the Barbie I remember (35 years ago or so), but a brand name is a brand name, the Barbie people don't care that I don't know that this is what Barbie looks like now, they just want to push this (second cousin-once-removed-of) Barbie on a new generation and make lots of money, so on with the show!I'm happy for Nick winning this challenge. His dress was beautiful; loved the colored material and the cut of it. Santino's dress was great, too; he sure is the prima donna, though, isn't he? But I love the confidence he has, and he's still my pick to win. Wasn't sorry to see the guy leave tonight (can't remember his name) and won't miss Marla when she goes, either.

<Santino's dress was great, too; he sure is the prima donna, though, isn't he? But I love the confidence he has, and he's still my pick to win.I dunno. No matter how talented they are, I think both Daniel Franco, whose theme seems to be, "I pay so much attention to detail that I barely finish", and Santino, "I'm the next great thing, and if you don't think so, I'll clarify" will be gone before it's all over. There's been too much foreshadowing for that not to be true. My favorite designer, hands down, is Franco - classic, clean lines. He gets what sophisticated women want to wear. For me, Santino is more of a designer for Vogue - I'd look at his things, but I'd NEVER wear them. They scream, "I'm into the runway look." Not a bad thing, but not something I'd be able to wear, let alone have occasion to wear. Andrae is certifiably overly dramatic. Can't stand him. And yeah - that Raymundo guy needed to go. I thought "Appalachian chic" was a kind description for that ensemble. Nope - that's an insult to Daisy Mae. WHAT was he thinking?! I LVOE this show!!! Everyone is entitled to my opinion.

<Franco is new to me. He does great work as well, but he seems to be having problems with the time constraints put on them. Which may be his downfall. Yep. It's just a matter of time.
Chloe seems to have a good designer head on her shoulders. I think she may well win this. Santino has talent, but his ego will get him in big trouble with the judges and other contestants. Maybe even the viewers. Everyone is entitled to my opinion.

Well, wasn't this week's designs a big pile of carp? Any of them could have been out IMO. Daniel V's "Revenge" lingerie was the least worst of them so I imagine that's why he ended up as winner. And OMG Santino should have been out. First of all, his design that he showed Heidi was kinda fun and whimsical...but what ended up on the runway was cr@p in a box. With more ruching and ruffles. Does he know how to make any garments without ruffles? And according to Tim Gunn, Santino argued with Heidi and Nina for 90 minutes on the runway and was extremely verbally abusive. He didn't specifically say that the producers decided to keep Santino because of his volatility but the implication was clearly there. Actually Tim's version of events is fascinating. Check out his podcast every week for the behind the scenes stuff that geeks like me love to hear. For example, when they were picking teams and it was down to Marla & Emmett...there was a half hour discussion on why no one wanted them there and that they should be their own team. Apparently none of the other contestants have much respect for them...hmmmm... Any speculations on the young socialite for next week's challenge? I'm thinking a kid, someone like Dakota Fanning or something like that. Handcrafted by RollDdice

I wish they put the "fresh" episode on at 9.I can't wait to see the collections, even if they suck. I think it's funny that Daniel got only marginally farther this year.

I couldn't believe that Daniel was let go already, I really felt there was at least a few people that should have gone before him. At first I assumed his leaving was due to the fact that his clothing was more on the serious side and that maybe the judges were looking for more colorful out there designs, but that was until I caught a repeat of the first episode, when they were given $20 to make an outfit. Nina's words were "he's already had his chance last season, it's someone else's turn", which made me think that maybe the judges never meant for him to go far in the first place, maybe it was more out of intriguing the viewers to see what he could do this time and kind of make him to be the underdog. Maybe my theory is off but I do think it's a little off that Nina didn't feel he should be there and what do you know he's the fourth to go.

Well, I have to say that the past two shows have made me disappointed in the judges. Last week Daniel F. was ousted because they felt his designs were too sophisticated and too much alike, even though they were better than Santino's hideous garments and they admired the fact that he took blame for what went wrong. Santino was kept just on the basis that he's creative, despite the ridiculous lingerie he designed and his poor attitude. Then this week Guadalupe goes based on the fact that her dress was gross, which I don't argue that, but Marla was kept because her dress was slightly less ugly even though she showed absolutely no creativity as she pretty much copied the dress. I know that last week there were a few new judges sitting in for Micheal and Nina but it just seems ridiculous that they would keep Marla around even though she is the weakest of all the designers, her sewing skills are not up to speed with the others, no designing and creativity ability and most of all because she COPIED!!!!!! Guadalupe's dress was ugly but at least she came up with it. In my opinion, Marla should have gone this week and Guadalupe would have been a good possible exit canidate for next week as I think her designs may be too out there. I was also disappointed that Nick didn't win. I thought his dress was beautiful, elegant and simple. Santino's was good but I felt it needed a bit more of a waist like Heidi said. These two guys are definately in competition with each other, it's funny because it's like no one else there matters or concerns them.

Disclaimer: content full of dry humor, read at your own risk. Santino: Fashion Don't Icon : c'mon Santino haven't you heard the rule about not wearing white socks with black heels? Andrae: Model for 70's inspired gym wear (may as well get paid for wearing those vintage short shorts). Daniel V.: Guide on How to Make a Dress from Your old Drapes (sorry but that's what last night's material reminded me of) also founder of the Colorblind Society. Kara: opens a boutique called "Empire Waist R Us" and is also part of the recovery team for Barbie accessories lost in escalators. Marla: opens a boutique making knock offs of everyone else's designs. Zulema: starts a new line called Buttcheeks with the motto "show what your mama gave ya". Guadalupe: designs detachable and reattachable sex toys (after all one size isn't pleasing to all). Dirty Diana: new Rep. for uptight nerdy girls gone wild. Chloe: specializes in making cutesy mini dresses for dolls and marries Daniel F. on the basis of feeling guilty later get divorced after the inability to consummate the marriage. Nick: becomes a poor gay Mexican begger (not at all a derogatory comment, I am simply pulling a Marla and copying what Nick said about himself last night when referring to his convo. with Nikki, I really love this guy too much to be original and joke about him). Ok ok so I know it's all lame but hey I amuse myself which can actually become a great survival skill should I ever become stranded by myself for a length of time, I won't go insane.

65. "RE: Socialite Spoiler" |
LAST EDITED ON 01-05-06 AT 11:51 AM (EST)This is a show where they are careful to tell us in the credits that the outcome is determined, in part, by producers editing for best dramatic content. So Santino's safe til at least the final four no matter what he does. But Marla...WTF? She sucks. Outright sucks. I could probably sew better than that. And Tim out and out told her that she was making a bad copy yet she somehow couldn't see it til she spoke to the erudite Ms. Hilton. Why are they keeping her around? I can only guess that her 35-50 demographic (mine, frankly) is a big part of the audience and the producers feel "Wendy.2" is a desirable component this season. I completely agree that Guadalupe's dress was horrible but it was, at least, original. Marla's looked like something a 9-year-old makes with My First Mattel Sewing Machine. I think we're heading for a Santino v. Nick (Nik?) showdown - the "good" Nick versus the "bad" Santino. Nick's dress was lovely but I think too safe and maybe too, well, old, for Nicky. I knew she was going to go for Santino's. Which was a beautiful colour, if a little top heavy. I also liked the black dress that the lady with the accent - Something Janx - sewed, and I also kind of liked the jersey dress that Basket Case created. Zulema's black and white dress was clunky and wrong for Miz Hilton. Diana amused me in that she didn't know who Stevie Nicks was despite creating a dress that was, indeed, very Belladonnaesque; she clearly had fun on the dance floor.

I agree that Nick and Santino are edited as locks for the final 3. Chloe and Diana are also secure for some time.So that leaves us Marla, Kara, Zuleema, Emmett as "no chance in hell" contestants who, much as I hate Santino, "should be given 4 auf weiderseins and be done with it." And Daniel V. and Andrae as the dark horses. I mean, it seems like every week the best designs are Chloe, Nick and Santino. Of course, another team challenge will shake that up. Still good, but this season-as I feared-is not nearly as entertaining as last week.

67. "Social Scene review" |
This week the designers finally had to design for a real client. Nicky Hilton was a good choice for the socialite. She actually has her own design line and studied at the Parson’s School where the show is filmed. I suspect that connection is what enabled her to be on the show. And I am beyond thankful that it wasn’t her DAW sister. This episode has really brought out the competition. For the most part, the designers used this challenge to showcase their talent (or lack thereof) to their best ability. Half of the dresses had the capacity to win this if they caught Nicky’s attention and met her expectations. Now onto the dresses and most importantly, my opinions. Winner: Santino
Well, I wasn’t crazy about this design but it (and Santino) obviously appealed to Nicky. He did a great job selling himself as well as his design. I’m just amazed that he finally came up with a design that didn’t have ruffles. Still, it does have the appearance of him adding on more and more details. It’s too soon to tell if that will be an asset or a downfall for Santino. One thing that was nice, we saw a little less attitude towards the judges this week from him, due in no small part to Nicky’s prescence. Andrae
Andrae’s dress has great lines and flowed nicely on the runway. I liked it but would have put it in the top three. He didn’t take as many risks with this dress as he has in the previous challenges and I have to wonder if that hurt his chances. Chloe
This dress has a great back view. However, it was a bit like the dress that won her the “clothes of your back” challenge. Same color scheme as well as the racer’s back. I do love the flounce on the hem and it’s a lovely design. However, the sewing on the dress is not great and the fit through the bust is not pleasing. Daniel V. I loved this dress. It was my favorite of the episode. Daniel had originally picked out some black fabric to work with this bold print. However, once he brought it out of the dim fabric shop, he realized it was a deep chocolate brown that would not have worked on the runway. He ultimately ended up using the bold fabric for his dress with a bit of black left over from Kara’s dress for the neckline. I live what he did with this print. The tucks and folds add amazing detail to the dress without being overwhelmed by the print or adding bulk to the dress. He has talent to make it much further in this competition. Diana Well, I liked the bodice of this dress. It was very curvy, original and shapely. However, the skirt was dreadful. The layers were too bulky and should have been done in silk chiffon to get the floaty look she seemed to be going for here. She had issues with the seams in the bodice puckering and I agree with Tim Gunn’s comments that it reflected her sewing ability. Diana has come up with some very unique designs, but I think it may be her technique that will ultimately take her out. Emmett A nice dress, but nothing very spectacular. Emmett is flying under the radar for now. Kara For all her drama, she managed to come up with an amazing dress. If it had been blue, I’ll bet she would have won. I got the feeling that Nicky was tired of looking at another little black dress…even though she told Kara it was one of her favorites. Marla Pathetic. Why copy a dress that Nicky already has? As soon as I first saw that, I was shocked and knew it was too much like the dress they had seen her in. (The designers were given two photos of Nicky on the red carpet along with likes and dislikes. Marla’s dress was nearly a copy of one of the dresses.) Marla is skating by and clearly doesn’t have much of a mind of her own. Even when instructing the hair stylist on the look she wanted for her model, she pointed at another one of the models and wanted a similar look. If it weren’t for Guadalupe, she’d be gone. Nick Nick is one of my favorite designers on the show and he has the most consistency so far. The dress is amazing and the back view would look spectacular on the red carpet. Nicky should have picked this dress. Zulema I liked the idea, but hated the finished dress. Zulema seems to be a good concept designer, but somehow her final version doesn’t quite get there. Out: Guadalupe Ghastly. I’m not sure who she was designing for but it certainly wasn’t Nicky Hilton. It seemed very high school to me. So, next week they are on teams again. This time it will be teams of two and both of the members of the losing team will be out. The title of the next episode is “Window Shopping” so I’m interested to see what that challenge will entail.

TJ,Thanks for the recap and the commentary--remember Todd who used to do the fashion commentaries for Survivor and Amazing Race? Would you get a little bit more caustic and step in to fill his shoes? Agree with about everything you said. I like Santino's dress, but would have picked Daniel V's as the winner. Loved Andrae's and yes, if Kara's were in a gorgeous blue, she would have had a shot at a win. If you look at Santino's socialite dress and his Barbie dress, the bodice of the socialite dress is just a remake of the Barbie dress concept. I think he has the personality to pull off his own career and I also think he'll be in the final three but my prediction is that it'll be Nick or Daniel who win. Please tell me they're not going to keep poor Marla around in a nicer-Wendy-redux! **Work of arzt by PhoenixMons**

Interesting commentary, TJ. Keep it coming.I think that Zulema's design is hideous. Looks like those poofy curtains or window shades I've seen hanging in Victorian style homes. It doesn't even look like it's constructed well. I haven't seen the episode yet - just back from a trip - but had to check in with you guys. I'm enjoying this season almost as much as last year's. I think the first year of any reality show is usually the best, just because it's new. Everyone is entitled to my opinion.
