PLEASE NOTE: The Reality TV World Message Boards are filled with desperate
attention-seekers pretending to be one big happy PG/PG13-rated family. Don't
be fooled. Trying to get everyone to agree with you is like herding cats,
but intolerance for other viewpoints is NOT welcome and respect for other
posters IS required at all times. Jump in and play, and you'll soon find out
how easy it is to fit in, but save your drama for your mama. All members are
encouraged to read the
complete guidelines.
As entertainment critic Roger
Ebert once said, "If you disagree with something I write, tell me so, argue
with me, correct me--but don't tell me to shut up. That's not the American way."

Where does Tim Gunn fit in the show? I do not think he has a say in the judging process at all. Atleast that is my impression. Despite the fact that he is the Director of the prestigious school, why should the contestants listen to him? If he has nothing to do with any of them staying or going then they should just tell him to take his opinion and piss off!!! Especially if somebody like Nick is going to react so negatively to Tim's opinions. I do not know why Zulema said they had to listen to Tim?

I see Tim as a mentor. Someone to give them advice, to check in on how they are doing emotionally and someone to get some artistic ideas from. Tim may not have input on who goes and who stays but he does know what the judges expect and fills the designers in on that. Whether a designer takes his advice or not is strictly their choice. So, in my opinion, Tim is an important part of the competition, he works for the designers, he's the one who lets them know if their work is great or crap and how it will appeal to the judges.

I also recall a few times the judges have mentioned certain designers not taking Tim's advice or certain things that they were doing or not doing. I think Tim definately gives the judges notes on what's happening behind the scenes.

I think that Tim Gunn is the only reason that Santino is still in the competition. It is no secret that Nina does not care for Santino's design and it appears that MK is trying to figure out exactly who would purchase his designs. So, since they don't seem to have Santino high on their list I think Tim is in his corner.

I think that Tim Gunn is important to the success of Project Runway. He helps keep designers on track. Designers sometimes get help from other designers, but it helps to have input from someone who they are not competing against. Tim also has an interesting blog at http://www.bravotv.com/Project_Runway_2/Episodes/Episode_9/Tims_Take/blog.shtml One of his comments about these designers in that blog was "They had been coasting and weren’t talking enough risks. It was as if each was saying, "I don’t care about winning; I just don’t want to be OUT." Accordingly, we bring in an incentive: IMMUNITY. The winner of this challenge has immunity for the next challenge."
