"Project Runway: Window Shopping episode" |
Well, I have to say that I was underwhelmed by all of these designs. Of course, I also don’t shop at Banana Republic so there you have it. Other than the designs, I loved the shows. Since they teamed up again, there were only five designs and we ended up seeing a bit more of the creative process. Of course, there had to be more drama as well. First, we’re off to Banana Republic where the designers learn about the next challenge. They will need to design a day into evening outfit geared to the Banana Republic customer. Quite a challenge indeed! The designers select bolts of fabric from the BR workroom and head back to Parson’s to start drafting their designs. While they are drawing, Tim Gunn interrupts them and announces that they have 60 seconds to choose partners for this challenge as they will be designing in teams of two. Teams are: Santino & Nick Andrae & Daniel Marla & Diana Emmett & Chloe Kara & Zulema Not only do they have to team up…but now they have to decide whose design to use, whose fabric and whose model. Oh, and then Tim comes back later to say that both designers on the losing team will be out. Doh! Panic and shock ensues. Everyone starts second guessing their designs and freaking out. Once the designs are complete and the models are ready, Tim has another announcement. It’s a field trip! They end up in front of Banana Republic and are told they have to create a window display using their model. They get $200, 30 minutes to shop at an art supply store and 60 minutes to put their display together. On top of that, the judges will be BR customers. On to the fun part, the designs. Andrae & Daniel: Winner These two both have a great deal of talent, they work very well together and it shows. I have to be honest, I hate the dress. Love the jacket though. Although, Andrae should be eliminated the next time he wears those horrid orange running shorts. Their winning design is now on sale at Banana Republic. http://www.bananarepublic.com/browse/product.do?cid=5023&pid=386890&mlink=11234,190592&clink=190592 Part of the proceeds will go to one of my favorite charities, Dress for Success. Emmett & Chloe Great design but apparently a little dressy for BR. It would have been my choice for winner. The skirt especially rocks with the lines down the back and the draping in front. The reversible jacket was a clever idea and while it seemed a bit too boxy, the model was certainly working it on the runway. Kara & Zulema Kara is a trainwreck and Zulema is the engineer. Good lord, their design process turned into a debacle of tears and screaming. They ditched their work with the navy silk charmeuse that everyone else seemed to use and went with the print at a very late hour. Unfortunately, this really hurt them as the finished product looked sloppy and didn't go well with the vest. That print fabric had amazing potential...as soon as I saw that in the BR workroom, I knew that's what I would have chosen. Santino & Nick Over the top and not for BR’s customer’s at all. But let’s hand it to Nick for keeping Santino on a leash for this because it could have been so much worse. I had to laugh when Nick said, "Just the fact that you don't see a thousand trims on it? You know I have tamed the beast." I *heart* Nick. This photo doesn't show the jacket with its huge kimono sleeves the were completely inappropriate. Also the skirt hat some odd swinging pieces to me that looked very odd as well. Without all that mess, it was a nice design. Just way too much design. Which is typical Santino, of course. I'm really tired of him and his attitude. He was incredibly rude to Michael Kors and I'm just sick of his defense of his designs because he always insults the judges. Marla & Diana: out As soon as these two were paired, I knew they'd be out. Neither of them has good design or sewing skills and that's obvious in their final design. It was boring and dated. Of course, I didn't care for most of these designs. Next week, they'll be designing an ice skating costume so that should be interesting. I hope we've seen the end of the teams though...I'd rather see individual designs.
Lighten up, it's just fashion.

Nice recap, FJ.What I DIDN'T like about this ep the most was the fact that 2 people were out, thus shortening the season by a week . Also, I was underwhelmed by the designs. Like you, FJ, I am not a BR shopper, but last season there were much better designs for BR to choose from. My fave was Nick & Chloe's and the fact that it looked too "expensive" for BR was a pathetic attempt at criticism. I wasn't impressed by Andrae & Daniel's creation, but it was better than the rest. Santino was one of my early fave designers (along with Nick & Andrae) but his super ego has gotten OLD. While I can easily see him in the final 3 (Santino, Nick & Chloe I predict right now) I would love to see him eliminated for his cocky & rude behavior towards the Judges. I couldn't believe how he treated Michael Kors last night. He'll either make it to the end for the DRAMA or the judges are looking for the first chance to oust him & I can't imagine what will come out of his mouth if he is auf wiedersehen-ed I expect to see serious fur flying! I so need to get the first season DVD since I didn't have cable when it was on the first time.I agree about E&C's design. I mean, they used BR fabric after all. If anything it was a compliment as to how nice something from BR *could* look. The only design of Santino's that I've liked so far was for the "clothes of your back" challenge. I would not have given him his two wins so far as I thought there were better designs. Unfortunately, the producers have the final say in who gets cut, not the judges. So, I expect we will have to put up with Santino for a while as he does make for good television. Even if he is an @ss. slice slice baby!Oh, and it's tj, not FJ

I don't like the group or team challenges as much either, although I agree that the Santino/Nick pairing gleaned interesting results.I think Banana Republic (I occassionally shop there) made the right choice for BR. I also was amazed that the Zulema dress came out so good at the last minute. I liked Emmett's and Chloe's, too, but it was a little too mature for BR. Plus, will she ALWAYS do that thingee (yoke, maybe? I don't know what it's called) up the back of her dresses? I think the skating will be fun. Also a queenathon with Basket Case and Nick going into autogush. Didn't Santino look just like Rasputin in that Russian hat?

Anyone have any ideas about who will screw up next episode. I know they have to design an ice-skating outfit and it looks like it will be for younger girls. I know one of the judges made a comment on how the outfit was too revealing, but of course all the designers faces were shown looking worried. I have a feeling that this might be a win for Chloe, she's good at making cute yet sophisticated designs that aren't very revealing. I'm kind of thinking that Santino might be the one to go, I'm guessing he will overdo the design and make it too busy.

8. "Next Week's ep" |
I too think this next episode with Sasha Cohen will be a real good one. My prediction for the winner will be Nick. He is obviously (from the previews) a big Sasha/figure skating fan & he designs classy, beautifull stuff. I bet he'll be right on the mark with Chloe as runner up. I agree with Naz & just about everyone else that Santino will go way over the top. So, will he create a costume with so much fur trim that poor little Sasha will look like a bear? I suspect Rasputin will squeak by, though. I predict that Zulema will make the slutty barely there outfit, consistent with her past designs (clothes off your back) and maybe she'll be the one to go this week. Now that Sasha won her place on the Olympic team, I wonder if the winning outfit from this show will be good enough to be one that she'll wear in Torino? Kind Creation of ARNutz
