"Rock Star Love List: Week 5"
Week five performances have come and gone. Have your feelings of admiration for some or loathing for others been changed? Time to fess up. Who are you diggin’ and whom would like to help show the door too?

1. Marty Casey (6,4,2,4) – It would have taken something extraordinary for Miss Unga to be knocked out of my number one slot and its name was Marty Casey. Been waiting for Mr. Consistency to hit a grandslam and he did so this week. Took a huge risk in ditching the house band but sometimes with risks come reward. I think Marty just wrote his ticket to the finals tonight. Great, fantastic, spectacular job Marty! Destiny may be calling indeed.

2. Jordis Unga (2,1,1,1) – Kills me to take Jordis down even one spot but she does deserve it. Admittedly, this was her weakest performance to date, but it still wasn’t all that bad. Compared to a few of the other performers, her worst would be their best. Song just didn’t match up with her talent. Well this week should be bringing out a little Jordis bashing lol. There are some whom been aching for an opening to tear down this talented girl. She’ll be kicking butt again in no time at all. Happy 23rd Jordis.

3. Ty Taylor (5,7,3,7) – I’m a huge Marley fan and was a little worried for Ty. Hard for anyone to sing a Bob song without being compared but Ty made it his own. He did give us his best performance to date, so nice redemption Ty.

4. Brandon Calhoon (10,9,11,6) – The hippy was back and it was good to see. A great performance last week earned him a trip to the bottom three and this stellar performance earned some INXS criticism? He’s fighting for his life, so of course Brandon will choose a type of song he can excel at. The band made it clear that he may not be right for them but hoping he doesn’t get the boot quite yet.

5. Mig Ayesa (12,11,4,3) – Another solid week from Mig. He won’t be going anywhere for a few weeks. Sorry but I still feel like he has one of the weaker voices of the remaining contestants.

6. Suzie McNeil (14,8,12,8) – Totally dug the R.E.M remix and thought she nailed it. So props to Suzie. If she is the last woman standing next to Jordis, get ready for a beat down Suzie.

7. J.D. Fortune (13,3,7,2) – Next to We are the Champions, this was his worst performance. The roller coaster ride that is JD continues. Limitations were exposed tonight. Not sure why some want to take a ballad or semi-ballad and turn it into a jam. I’m just not fully convinced yet that JD can nail a ballad.

8. Deanna Johnston (3,6,8,9) – Very distinctive voice and as a guy I did enjoy her umm assets flopping around but besides that, ehh whatever.

9. Jessica Robinson (9,13,10,10) – Painful to listen to and my ears are still bleeding! Your premonition of bombing came to fruition Jessica. While Jordis and Marty scored with Nirvana, you rolled over Kurt. Finally a week in which the band may not save your butt. Get ready to sing an INXS song again because IMHO your boot is a few weeks overdue. Still can’t believe she is still around when stronger woman like Heather and Tara are out.

Booted: Tara Slone (8,10,5,5) – Next to Jordis, I thought Tara was the most talented of the remaining women. Happy she does have a successful career in Canada to return too. Hope the extra exposure helps her to achieve all her dreams.

As always … I showed you mine, now you show me yours.

1. "RE: Rock Star Love List: Week 5"
1. Ty - Best performance of the night. Always LOVED Ty I hope he gets a recording contract, because I don't think he will fit with INXS, but he is a phenomenal talent -- the whole package - range, power, presence, emotion. Go Ty!

2. Suzie – Her best performance by far. Props to J.D. for helping her with the arrangement (he's got talent). After Jordis, Suzie is the only female I really enjoy listening to, especially after she sang Roxanne, I took notice.

3. MiG – Great night for MiG last night. Hope he takes INXS's advice to fight for song & try a ballad.

4. J.D. – He wasn't bad, but not great either. Competition is getting fierce and the top spots are being fought over. Still think J.D. or MiG are the two to duke it out to win.

5. Marty – Fantastic! I hope next week they follow through with INXS's comment to go acoustic to strip down & hear everyone's voices.

6. Brandon – Great performance, but further solidifies he is strictly southern rock. He won't be here long.

7. Jordis – Can't believe she's low on my list. Where was Jordis last night? This was very weak, souless, lifeless --very unlike Jordis. What happened?

8. Jessica – Never been a fan, but she has saved herself singing INXS songs better than fellow bottom 3's. I actually thought she sounded decent last night, but she just doesn't have it.

9. Deanna – Never been a fan. Range is too limited & I'm not sure how she is still here.

Bottom 3 should be: Brandon, Jessica & Deanna with ALL 3 getting the boot??? Or BOTH Jessica & Deanna.

2. "RE: Rock Star Love List: Week 5"
Oh, my. Interesting night.

1) Ty - OMG, that was awesome. I sooooooo love that song and was skeptical as hell, but what a rendition! Brought tears to my eyes. I don't care what anyone says, this guy can sing better than anyone in this competition. Doesn't mean I think or even want him to win but...whoa! Can't say enough.

2) Marty - Loved it! Yeah, he's a little off sometimes, but the whole package on this one and the level of risk he took was impressive. He's not going anywhere any time soon and he may have a lock on the finals.

3) JD - I still think he's the one to beat. Love the new look. I think he did a solid job changing up the Seal song. I feel him and I'm pretty sure the audience feels him.

4) Suzie - How did this happen? Great job on the performance and, despite my great trepidation, great arrangement. She obviously feels that JD had much to do with the success of that experiment. That's why I think he'll win. But I'm giving Suzie big props on this, too.

5) Mig - Meh. Again, workmanlike job. He's okay, but still doesn't really impress me.

6) Brandon - He's only this high because everyone else svcked so badly. I don't see it with him at all. I can see him going on tour opening for Bo Bice. And that's not a compliment.

7) Deanna - Good job with "Long Train Running," but we've heard her do this before. Didn't show me anything out of her comfort zone and I agree with the band in that I doubt she can pull off anything that doesn't call for belting it out.

8) Jordis - She'd be in last place (!!!!!!!) if Jessica hadn't been so bad. Awful, horrible, hated it. Huge misstep. Not even oozing that charisma which would have possibly saved this performance. Bad, bad, bad. One of the greatest passionate love songs of all time and it sounded like karaoke.

9) Jessica - I can't even believe I sat through that without my ears bleeding. Must.go.now. And long overdue.

I'm such a slut for the blues.

3. "RE: Rock Star Love List: Week 5"
1. Marty - I was inspired to vote last night. For the first time on this show.
2. MiG - Nice performance. Good song choice. I’d like to see him move around a little more. Preferably shirtless.
3. Suzie – I thought she did a really good job with that remix (thanks to JD). I was nervous about it but she really pulled it off.
4. Ty – I really liked it. Dave hit the nail on the head with his comment. I don’t remember exactly what he said but it was something about feeling instead of pretending he’s feeling. I could see Ty feeling that song. Great song choice.
5. JD – I’m not so sure I understood all the words he was singing but I wanted to. He pulls me in.
6. Jordis – Worst performance to date for her. But you know what? That is a terrible song for a singing competition. So, good job, Jordis for doing what you could with it.
7. Brandon – I thought it was great to see the real Brandon up there. As for INXS, dudes, why choose songs that you don’t want to hear people sing? *rolls eyes*
8. Deanna – I really do like her. It’s just getting tougher and tougher and her time is coming.
9. Jessica – *sigh* I really wish they would take all the Nirvana songs off of the list. Please. I almost cried listening to her “sing” that song. I was almost starting to like her too.

4. "RE: Rock Star Love List: Week 5"
1. Ty – He will get the encore this week. Mark my word.
2. Suzie – She put a lot of heart into that performance so she ranks high. Still don't like her for INXs though.
3. MiG - Same type of songs, a little better one to judge. I liked it, but want to see him change it up like INXS said. Some less classic rock and more funky.
4. Jordis – I like her performance more than most. I felt at times she sounded too rehearsed, but I like how she added a funky vibe to the song and made it sound more like an INXS song.
5. Marty - I did not dig his acoustic version of the song...maybe because I didn't know the song he performed, but I am finding him sounding the same everyweek and doing the same type of songs. I wish INXS would have an all 80's week to see what they would sound like doing different types of songs.
6. JD – Not one of his better performance. Concerns about him changing around the songs and wonder if he will feel he'll need to change around an INXS song.
7. Brandon – I liked his performance yesterday. Very similar to what I will say about Deanna, but I think he is a little better suited for INXS or at least has a little bit better chance of being suited for them. He is fading real bad as my early favorite to win.
8. Deanna – I liked her performance yesterday. Really I thought it was one of the best but.............then it sunk in she is totally wrong for INXS.
9. Jessica – Now we know what it would sound like if Cher did Nirvana. Put her out of her misery.

I agree regarding Ty getting the encore. I thought it was a shoo-in that Marty would get it...until I heard Ty.

However, I believe that Marty deserves it. Picking Ty would just be playing into the emotions of his heartache from the week. Ty's performance (although excellent) was not unique. Marty's performance took a risk, and for that should be rewarded.

5. "RE: Rock Star Love List: Week 5"
I'm still basing this on an OVERALL list, not just based on last night's performances.

1. MiG: Solid performance, although I wish he's do something really different & shake things up.

2. Marty: Noramlly he's a little further down on my list, but last night was amazing. He's really growing with each week. I just wish he'd stop looking like a scared puppy when he sings.

3. Ty: What an awesome performance. I agree 100% with the band's comments. Keep up the good work, Ty.

4. J.D. It's was just ok. A tough song, but it could've been better. I still think his vocals match INXS best.

5. Jordis: IMHO, her performance was the worst yet for her. Her outfit was horrid, her vocals were bland & her performance was almost non-existant. I love her, but not sure she rocks enough for INXS. Bad for Jordis is still better than most, though.

6. Suzie: She took a risk & it went ok. I still don't think she's a good INXS fit.

7. Jessica: She really is improving, but I just don't love her voice. I'm glad she's challenging herself & growing, but she's just not up to snuff.

8. Brandon: I'm so sick of him in this competition. I think he's got too much ego for his own good & would be a horrible fit for INXS. Not a bad night for him, but time for him to go soon.

9. Deanna: Her song selection is so predictable & I'm tired of her gravely voice. Her look is at least improving.

I think Jessica or Deanna will be going home this week. I think it might be a triple elimination, though.

6. "RE: Rock Star Love List: Week 5"
1. Ty - really great performance, and usually I notice his just amazing energy the most but this week noticed he has a really good voice too
2. Marty - wow

***big dropoff***

3. Mig - I love listening to and watching Mig; and what charisma!

***another dropoff***

4&5. tie- Brandon - good for what it was; and
Suzie - she does have a good voice, not much stage presence tho
6. J.D. - really don't see what some people rave about; I can't even watch him, he's just freaky
7. Deanna

***another dropoff***

8. Jordis - still love her, but not her week
9. Jessica - time to go home

My favorites to win are still 1. Mig, 2. Marty (close second), 3. Ty; not sure about Jordis now, had her as a wild card last week

8. "RE: Rock Star Love List: Week 5"
1.) Marty - Loved the accoustical version.
2.) Jordis - Cumulative shows the most range.
3.) Mig - Consistently good, and even more impressed upon knowing that he often does songs that were not his first choice.
4.) Suzie - Great rendition and a great voice.
5.) Ty - He does much better with the ballads -- they don't look so staged.
6.) Deanna - Still like her voice, but also coming to realize that she's not a good fit for INXS.
7.) J.D. - All of his songs sound the same to me -- like he's yelling instead of singing, and he doesn't have a wide vocal range.
8.) Brandon - Only excels at Southern Rock. Needs more range to be the lead singer of INXS. Will go soon if not Wednesday.
9.) Jessica - It's her time to go. Time for substance to win out over style.

Each week I've been impressed by Jordis, Ty, Marty, and Mig. But, I think there are some good points about who 'fits' in with INXS. Each of those four 'should' have contracts with some group or studio, imho, but Mig or Marty seem to be the best fit.

I'm not a fan of any of the others; although, I think that they could certainly have great careers in rock.

12. "RE: Rock Star Love List: Week 5"
1. Marty - did not dig the fake brit accent but it was a great performance. He is very charismatic - I'm so crushing on him right now.

2, Ty - this was the first week he was believable to me. I reallly liked him this week although not the Jamaican accent.

3. Suzie - really really impressive this week. She surprised me. The change up worked and makes me look at her in a different way. not as the lead singer of inxs but definately as a talented performer

4. Jordis - everyone will have an off night from time to time. but jordis is still better than most when she's off. I hope the praise doesn't make her complacent. She's really so talented.

5. MiG - great, energetic performance but on the verge of becoming a one-trick pony.

6. Deanna - good performance but totally wrong for inxs. She'd make a great Janis joplin impersonator - she should look into that.

7. Brandon - another one-trick pony. He's lower than MiG because he's a one-trick pony that begs for votes. rock stars don't beg Brandon.

8. J.D. - I don't like JD but I'll put him up high when he deserves it (like last week). but i thought that was awful. He is so inconsistent and contrived and phoney. I think his innovative arrangements are more about hiding weaknesses in his voice than anything else. And - there's nothing wrong with that, it's a smart thing to do. But he sounded super flat to me last night.

9. Jessica - last week's reprieve made her a little over confident I think. Marty and Jordis could get away with doing Nirvana because they are talented performers with their own artistic vision. Jessica? Well, Jessica looks good in a belly shirt. It's time for her to go.

I got two of the bottom three right and the bootee right last week. This one is a tougher. I wouldn't be surprised to see JD end up in bottom soon. I think someone with a solid performance will end up in the bottom three this week, I'm picking Suzie but it could be anyone really.

bottom three: Jessica, Brandon & Suzie
bootee: Jessica

encore: Ty

13. "RE: Rock Star Love List: Week 5"
1) Marty- How impressive was his performance? Excellent! This was the first time that I really thought that he could win this thing!

2) Mig-Loved his performance. I see INXS's point, though, that he has to branch out and do a different type of song. I, however, think he and Marty are the only two who would truly fit in with INXS.

3) Ty-He sounded fantastic. He appeared sincere. He sang with such feeling. This was the first time that he impressed me.

4) Jordis-Previously my favorite and I still believe that she is the most talented singer of the lot. Would she make a great lead singer for INXS??? I don't think so. I just love her and think she will have a fabulous future but not with this band!

5) Suzie-Hate to admit it (just don't like her) but her arrangement and performance were just great. I just wonder if she'll ever be able to repeat it again. Even she admitted that JD helped her. Which makes me wonder how much of the arrangement was 'hers'???

6) Brandon- Appearance-OK Voice-OK Performance-Very Good
Nothing Special about this guy although he seems very personable-he's just ordinary

7) Deanna-I agree with whoever above said that she should front a band looking for a Janis Joplin type singer. That would really suit her-NOT INXS

8) Jessica- Bye Bye She won't be able to rise above her poor performance last night. She gone!

15. "RE: Rock Star Love List: Week 5"
1. Suzie – Outstanding job on “Losing My Religion”. I love her voice, don’t care for the way she dresses or does her hair, just let me close my eyes and listen to her sing.
2. Marty – Hard to believe he changed his mind 10 minutes before the show on how to perform the song. Week after week he delivers.

3. MiG – I thought he showed some power to voice that I hadn’t heard before. Did a great job covering “All Right Now”, it wasn’t inventive but it was enjoyable.
4. Deanna – Her best vocal performance so far. I don’t know that anyone has had more fun on stage than her over the last two weeks. Really gets the crowd going.
5. Ty – Remarkable job on a song and a style I don’t care for. Hope to hear more ballads from him.

6. J.D. – I like his passion for music but I don’t think his singing is holding up very well. He might be a better producer/writer/arranger than a performer. Props to him for helping Suzie this week.
7. Jordis – got the feeling she is in cruise control, “why work at it when everyone loves me so much?” It was disappointing to watch her smile through a song that contains so much pain and anguish.

8. Brandon – I didn’t know what he was singing until he got to the chorus. I like the guy, he seems like he’d be fun to hang around with but I think he is toast.
9. Jessica – she has a great voice, she doesn’t seem to know how to use it.

Looking for a double elimination tonight. With the show being cut back a couple of weeks they need to start cutting fast, it would seem the perfect time to let Brandon and Jessica go.
