"Rock Star Love List: Week 4"
Week four performances have come and gone. Have your feelings of admiration for some or loathing for others been changed? Time to fess up. Who are you diggin’ and whom would like to help show the door too?

1. Jordis Unga (2,1,1) – Like Jordis is gonna drop out of my number one slot after that performance! I to was a little misty and felt myself falling into those eyes. She looked almost as amazing as she sounded. Such vulnerability and raw emotion. When she sang The Reason in week two, it was great, but I knew she could improve upon a ballad and she did. Jordis must get the Wednesday night encore!

2. J.D. Fortune (13,3,7) – JD would be a GREAT Survivor contestant, but I’m not too sure about using the scheming style for this show. Mark Burnett cramming him down our throats is also getting old. That said, he did great tonight. California Dreamin’ may have been a better performance. Sort of kills me to place him this high again knowing what kind of tactics he is using but credit must be given where it is due.

3. Mig Ayesa (12,11,4) – It was a powerful song and a powerful performance. Worthy of a top three position.

4. Marty Casey (6,4,2) – Huh Dave? It was better than that guy in Creed? No way. Dave must have some sort of a bone to pick there. Mr. Consistent was good again but it was just that. Good, not great. Really was expecting a homerun from him with Eyes Wide Open but it was more like double.

5. Tara Slone (8,10,5) – I believe she was the only who didn’t utter a single word on the Monday show. Editing wise, not looking good for her. I really did like her performance tonight and thought she nailed Message in a Bottle, but I fully expect her to be in the bottom three.

6. Brandon Calhoon (10,9,11) – Improved and showed much more range. Funny that he was a little reluctant about the voice clinic but seems to be the one who benefited the most.

7. Ty Taylor (5,7,3) – Started out great but tailed off. Song just wasn’t right for him. Hope he rebounds.

8. Suzie McNeil (14,8,12) – Ehh okay rendition of The Beatles. Was more impressed by the stage performance then the vocals. Which isn’t a good thing for the long run.

9. Deanna Johnston (3,6,8) – Being an early thirty something myself, her having to hear she may be damaged goods was painful for me. Come on, your career aspirations shouldn’t be limited once you hit 30! Was hoping she would nail the Ethreridge song but she didn’t. Instead she sounded like a Melissa wannabe. The whole lap dance thing didn’t work either.

10. Jessica Robinson (9,13,10) – If that was the Jessica personality on stage this week, then sweetie expect to be in the bottom three yet again. Biggest bomb of the night IMHO. If the band saves her butt yet again then all I want to know is which band members she’s sleeping with. And what was up with the little sneer towards Jordis after she said it was for a deceased friend? You must go now.

Booted: Daphna Dove (1,5,9) & Heather Luttrell (4,2,6) – In best Gomer Pile voice … Surprise, Surprise, Surprise! You just knew that a Mark Burnett run show couldn’t go to long without some sort of a twist. Daphna, my week one top of the chart love lister, has been steadily and painfully dropping down the rung. She sure was sexy hot in that outfit when she sang People are Strange but the writing was clearly on the wall for her eventual departure. Heather, even though her sickness clearly did contribute to her poor Tuesday night performance, I thought she rebounded some with the INXS song. I still do like her voice and think it has real power behind it. Wish the Butterfly Girl the best of luck in all her future rock n’ roll endeavors.

As always … I showed you mine, now you show me yours.

1. "RE: Rock Star Love List: Week 4"
Let me just start out by saying The House Band was especially smokin' tonight, on all the songs!

1. JORDIS: Wow. Wow. Wow. So great. She looked kinda dreamy while she was singing. I'm glad she wore white. So glad she didn't cry, thinking of her friend (I wonder if the 3s on her palm were some sort of signal to his family?) although every time she put her hand on top of her head, I think she was trying to keep it together. She had my full, complete attention. Excellent. If she doesn't win this thing, it's because she's female, I swear, because they lo-o-o-ove her. As they should.

2. MIG: I liked his performance. Lucky for him, that song had a great opening beat with which to work the crowd into a frenzy! I liked when he went off and freestyled that one part--he lost control but he saved himself & it worked. I'm hearing evidence that his voice is on the thin side...maybe I was just missing Freddy.

3. JD: He sang The Letter, and excellent song, and well suited to his voice. He did it well, worked the crowd, etc. I have to rate his performance high, even though I'd prefer to put him lower.

4. MARTY: I still don't like that song, but he did a good job. Each week, I'm liking his face more--there's something fine about it, and there are his big blue eyes. Loved the Crazy Dance, and yeah, I think he imitated Eddie Vedder better than the guy in Creed imitated Eddie Vedder.

5. BRANDON: Whoa! He grabbed my attention immediately! When did he get THAT voice? I also like how, when he sang about "when she says she loves me" he fell flat on the floor. He was working it really well, and then, *pant* oh, he kinda petered out, *cough* as if all his flailing around had him plum tuckered out.

6. JESSICA: She did it--she finally got me to vote for her. I thought she did a good job with that song, and looked great doing it. She still has no chance of winning this thing.

7. SUZIE: She was okay. She American Idolized it, but not nearly as badly as I feared she could. They kept giving her props for giving the band their solos, but what did she have to do with that? It's written that way.

8. DEANNA: Oh, the unrealized possibilities! She was ok, but I was disappointed because of my expectations. I really thought she was gonna kick @ss with that song, but she wasn't hitting it on the choruses. Her style is SO close to Melissa's, she can only compare unfavorably. I liked that she went into the audience. She did too much hair flipping & she looked like a stripper when she was over by INXS. Great boobs, though.

9. TARA: Eh. It's a good thing she has a decent career in Canada. She looked different--did she darken her hair?

10. TY: Oh, no! I watched, horrified, eyes wide, hands over my mouth! A train wreck! I wish he had chosen a song he had at least heard before. He's usually in my top 5. Dave & INXS were way too kind to him. The good news is, we'll finally hear how Ty sings an INXS song.

3. "RE: Rock Star Love List: Week 4"
Stronger performances this week. A little tougher.

1. JORDIS: Everyone loved her performace. I thought it was great because of the emotion in her singing, but I really didn't recognize the original version other than the guitar work. It was like she was singing a different song. But her song was good and was probably better than the original.

2. BRANDON: I like this guy more than most of you. Don't know why you don't like him. He has a nice voice and with a little makeover would look perfect with INXS.

3. JD: Like Ty, I would pay to see him perform. He is VERY creative which has to be a plus. The one thing about him is that sometimes I kinda laugh at his performances. I don't know if that is good.

4. MARTY: He was ok, did nothing to lower his ranking but kinda unmemerable to me.

5. TY: I really like this guy. I would pay to see him perform. Sang a song which he never heard and did a good job. Still don't think he will win and might go the first time he is in the bottom three, because INXS knows they don't want him and may try to seal his fate. This guy puts so much into his performance and really tasks the criticism personally. I feel for him because he is great. For INXS he should change but for his career after he is eliminated he should just be TY.

6. MIG: He was ok, but I see nothing bad or great about his performances. Could very well win the whole thing, but just doesn't excite me.

7. JESSICA: I think she started out shaky but I thought she gave it her all on a very hard song to sing. I don't know what Dave was talking about about her not showing personality. In my opinion she might of shown the most personality other than maybe JD.

8. SUZIE: Ok, she don't impress me.

9. DEANNA: Tried to song exactly like Melissa Ethridge. And she did an ok jub with that but was just boring in my opinion.

10. TARA: What was with the insane faces she was making? Also, for an energetic song like Message in the Bottle she was boring. There is a lot you can do with that song. She needs to sing to the audience which she doesn't.

I really WANT to like Brandon, I just think he messes up songs every week. He does half the song well & then botches parts. He just isn't growing like some of the other performers. His weirdo stage thing last night didn't work for me, either.

2. "RE: Rock Star Love List: Week 4"
1. Jordis – So moving. Not for INXS, but if she doesn't get a record deal after this, I am boycotting the music industry. voted for Jordis.

2. J.D. – Great job! He's back and this was especially tough following such a phenomenal performance by Jordis. Just concentrate on performing J.D. and don't worry about the "game." voted for J.D.

3. MiG – MiG has been making strides. Can see him as an easy fit with INXS. He & J.D. will have to sing it out. voted for MiG.

4. Marty – Marty has been growing on me these last couple of weeks. Dave went a little overboard with the praise though, he wasn't that good.

5. Brandon – Most improved award. Glad he took advice from voice coach. One of his best performances.

6. Ty – He started as my fave, but keeps falling each week, except last week's REM. He's is great, but too theatrical for a band, I think.

7. Suzie – Not bad. Taking on Beatles is tough.

8. Tara – Love Sting & The Police and Tara didn't pull it off, IMHO.

9. Jessica – Sorry, you're not "popular" Jessica, did you ever think it's your performances?

10. Deanna – She's never been a fave of mine. She's too limited by the low gravelly range of her voice. Cringing desperate flailing performance.

It's going to get harder and harder to decide who gets the boot, because most of the bunch are really talented. Last night was a great performance night, overall, especially following the stinker last week.

4. "RE: Rock Star Love List: Week 4"
1.Jordis: I love to watch her. She has this ability to draw you in. However, I'm wondering how she'll do with INXS songs.

2. MiG: He's my new favorite guy. He's being consistent & having fun.

3. J.D. He did well, but his inconsistency bothers me. I didn't particularly like that song, so last night was tough for me to like JD.

4. Ty: Props to Ty for making the best he could out of an unfamiliar song. He managed to concentrate on the song and still work the crowd.

5. Tara: Tough song, but she vocally did well. I just wondered what was up with her mechanical movements. She could've had more fun with that song. She's growing on me.

6. Marty: I just can't love his performances. He does the Eddie Vedder jaw clench thing, but it doesn't work quite so well with him. He looks so nervous all the time.

7. Jessica: Really tough song (why was it a choice again?), but she made the best of it.

8. Brandon: I really want to like him, but he consistenly messes up songs each week. He needs some serous vocal coaching (and actually apply it).

9. Suzie: Decent vocals, but wow, boring. She's far to average to front INXS.

10. Deanna: Her sound is the same every week & it's grating on my last nerve. She would make a horrid front person for INXS.

6. "RE: Rock Star Love List: Week 4"
Wow! What a great week. This list is tough for me. Numbers 3 through 9 could shift and bounce around some.

1. Jordis: She is consistently amazing. Give this girl her own recording contract, man.
2. JD: He was great. He looked great. He sounded great. And he got those spasms back in him that I like.
3. Marty: Finally he sings a song that doesn’t sound like he’s karaokeing the original singer. I thought he looked and sounded great. I would make him my boyfriend if I wasn’t so afraid to jinx him too.
4. MiG: he’s just super yummy. I agree with Dave. Take of your clothes, MiG.
5. Brandon: I knew he had a voice in there. I was glad he kept his rhythm.
6. Deanna: I love her voice and I love how she stepped it up. Good job.
7. Tara: Good song choice for her. I liked it.
8. Jessica: It’s a shame I have to put her this low but, on a week that I thought she did really well, so did everybody else. Love that song.
9. Suzie: I thought she did really well but it seemed a tad too safe vocally. She has a good voice though.
10. Ty: I thought it was horrible and the band went too easy on him.

7. "RE: Rock Star Love List: Week 4"
1) JD - The boy is back! Mesmerizing performance. Great song choice. The band loves him. Still the man to beat, IMHO. And I, personally, have no problem with the strategy. His desire is palpable.

2) Marty - Is there anyone I detest more than Scott Stapp? No, but this was awesome. I agree with Dave. This was much, much better than the original. Sung with emotion, not bombast.

3) Jordis - I like her, just not for INXS. And I didn't get all the emotion from her that everyone else did. Thought she did OK with this, not anything special. Nirvana did it better and, of course, Bowie's version is the ultimate.

4) MiG - meh. He just doesn't do it for me and I still think his voice is weak. He's a good performer, though. But Freddy Mercury he most certainly is not.

5) Ty - Pretty darn good job on a song he'd never heard and didn't want. Hard thing to do, but he pulled it off for the most part. Still think this guy is massively talented.

6) Jessica - Heard very little Cher and saw very little Britney. Improving. Still not convinced, though.

7) Deanna - Just a little flat on the choruses. And the lap dancing was not attractive. But better than the next three.

8) Brandon - Still think he stinks. Don't like anything about him. All I can think about when I see him is that I wish he'd wash his hair.

9) Suzie - Yawned all the way through that. So she gave the band props. Not hard to do when most of the song is instrumental solos.

10) Tara - Awful. Just awful. And the faces? Scary. And the moves? Looks like she's being tortured. Ick.

I'm such a slut for the blues.

8. "RE: Rock Star Love List: Week 4"
1. Jordis – beautiful, memorable performance. there is not a false thing about her. I just love her although as we all note, she's not right for the band. something really good will come her way though - she is wonderful.

2. Marty - I hate Creed, but Marty made me like that song. The dance thing was a little scary, but he is a pleasure to watch.

3. JD - I can't stand him, but I'll give him his props this week. I could do without the ad lib lines to the girls in the audience because it just seems like more contrived posing. But he was exciting to watch this week and did a good job interpreting the song.

4. MiG - totally benefited by going first. the audience was pumped and he really sold the performance. His vocals are noticably thin. I can't help it though - I still dig on MiG and think he's a good fit for the band.

5. Jessica - maybe it's just because I've loved the violent femmes for like Ever...but I thought she did great last night. There's not much to the song vocally but she was entertaining and not pop-ish at all.

6. Brandon – it was a solid performance I suppose, but I can't get excited about him. lead singers need to be dynamic and he is anything but.

7. suZie - I capitalized the Z because that put me to sleep. Suzzzzzzie it is. I get the feeling she is stoned out of her mind most of the time. Also, buy a bra Suzie - your boobies are small but they still need to be lifted and separated.

8. Tara - the hair looks better but the over dramatic facial gestures are too much. she's trying way too hard to be what she thinks they want instead of just being who she is. That, at least, I could respect.

9. Ty - well, he's hot. I still think he is more into acting like a rock star than being a rock star. fake fake fake fake fake

10. Deanna – her performances are so masculine to me. I just don't get the big deal about her and she sounds like Elvis with her thankyouverymuch stuff at the end. I like that she went out to the audience and that she went up to the band, I just don't think the hair whipping was a good move. and vocally it was underwhelming

I got the bottom three right last week but blew the bootee completely. This week, I'll say the bottom three will be Deanna, Brandon & Tara with Tara going home.

9. "RE: Rock Star Love List: Week 4"
1. Jordis – Wow, goosebumps. A great performance. The most consistent of the singers week in and week out.

2. MiG – My early favorite and very reliabily good. I actually liked Walk this Way and Lola better but he was solid this week.

3. Marty – Initially thought he was not memorable vocally, just another head-banger but he is proving me wrong. Concentrate on singing and keep the thrashing to a minimum. Liked the weird arm movements.

4. J.D. – Props for the big improvement over last week's debacle. The scheming will actually work against him in the end. Who would want to have Machiavelli as your bandmate?

5. Jessica – This was her best performance yet and I'm still humming Blister in the Sun. She has a ways to go if she wants to win. And for heaven's sake, wear a shirt that covers your gut one week.

6. Ty – Loved him early on and still think he has a great voice but underwhelming this week. Would score lower but I have residual hope that he is not a lost cause. Come on, turn it up a notch.

7. Brandon – Compared to last week he was sooooo much better. Too square jawed and greasy looking for my tastes though.

8. Suzie – She sounded fine but boring performance. Too bad, I think she's really pretty.

9. Tara – Not terrible but not great either. Loved her new look but she is just not making much of a vocal impression. Strange faces aren't helping.

10. Deanna – The last few weeks she has been blah and last night's performance was an off-key mess. First worry about singing on-key then the entertaining performance. Shall I stay or shall I go? Don't really care.

Personally, I think Deanna should go but the band will probably save her. If Tara's in the bottom three, she's in trouble.

LAST EDITED ON 08-03-05 AT 05:26 PM (EST)

1. Jordis - amazing - ditto above positives; she's the one whose future in music is most secure, IMO, me, even more secure than whichever (male) wins this

2. Mig - I think he's great and I think he or maybe Marty will win this

3. Marty - liked him from the beginning, along with Jordis, most consistent; cool arm movements

4. Brandon - thought he did OK, nothing great; for me the quality falls off greatly here

5. Ty - horrible this week, but I still like him a lot; yes theatrical but fun to watch

6, 7. Jessica, JD - Jessica may have OK talent, but yes cover your belly already (think she did one week), and I agree, no personality or spark; JD - he's a jerk (which I do think matters, in a band, in life, always; the fact that even on these boards a lot of people care show it will affect his popularity later), but even solely on talent just not to my taste - and his strange jerky movements were back this week bringing flashbacks to that horrible first performance; just do not enjoy his performances

8, 9. Tara, Suzie - tie: neither of these performers has any appeal to me; Suzie has the better voice

10. Deanna - couldn't even watch it

I'd like to see them boot Tara, Suzie, and Deanna.

I haven't actually had a chance to watch last nights show, will see the TiVo this evening.

But based on my gut, har, and thse comments, it looks like Ty, Tara and Jessica will be bottom three and any one of them could go.

I was on a plane this weekend and saw a photo of a Vegas show and the main person was...Ty. So I guess he doesn't win.

It seems like Jordis vs. J.D. is where were headed, and Mig has an outside chance. Is it just me, or are the others just waiting to get eliminated?

But, this isn't like Survivor or The Amazing Race, where the final outcome was determined months ago and everyone has been sworn to secrecy!

Are you sure it was Ty? When was the show? This weekend? Or an ad for a month or two from now? It may be a prior commitment. The thing is, even if he doesn't end up winning, he's doing this tv show RIGHT NOW, so how could he be also doing a Vegas show?

That is a good point! I guess he did the show before Rock Star. There was no mistaking that it was Ty. It was a rock-type revue thing, he had on a quilt. No wonder they say his style is theatrical! He came from a Vegas show! But he doesn't play that up too much, wonder why;)

14. "RE: Rock Star Love List: Week 4"
This is a tough week to rank, because I don't think anyone was out-and-out bad. Everyone was at least good, and several were great. Goes against my basher nature. But here goes:

1. Jordis. All of the vocal stuff is obvious, but I also love the fact that she wore white, in opposition to her usual dark attire. It gave the song a sort of angelic layer. Really interesting choice. Also, she wore a lot more make-up than she usually does, I think, which I usually HATE, but the glistening lips worked. Weird. Amazing performance. I think this may have surpassed Fantasia's "Summertime" for me.

After #1, it falls off considerably, while still being good.

2. Brandon. I don't usually like him, and this ain't one of my favorite songs of all time, but I find myself singing it a lot today. It was a really good song choice for him. And I loved the falling backwards bit and singing from the floor. Also, the vocal workshop paid off for him big-time. Sounded much better than I've heard him sound before. My only beef? I HATE his hair. He looks like the Scarecrow from "The Wizard of Oz."

3. Jessica. So sue me. It was FUN! Reminded me of frat parties, dancing and screaming this song (and other Femmes songs) at the top of our lungs. The quiet part was great, too. And there wasn't a trace of Cher. Yeah, I was down with this.

4. Marty. Solid, but I wasn't really overwhelmed. Not a fan of the song.

5. MiG. Some of the vocal stylings were kinda weird, but the energy was absolutely great.

6. Suzie. Nothin' wrong with it. Good song performed well. But also nothing particularly special about it.

7. Ty. He's starting to get on my nerves pretty hard. Schmacting was the term used in another thread? Yeah, that's it, all right.

8. Tara. Y'know, I really want to like Tara and I'm not exactly sure why. I thought the band's question about performing covers was particularly apt--if she's gonna front INXS, she'd never be singing her own material (unless/until a new album came out). She looked much better tonight, and she sang it okay, but... I dunno. Where's the spark? One other thing... I got curious about her career prior to this and checked out samples from the two albums her previous album released. Her voice is just YUMMY on those, also in higher part of her range. Seems like she's been dropping to more of an alto for the competition and I have NO idea why. I want to see her stick around for one more week, but I want to hear something that really shows off her pipes (she's operatically trained).

9. J.D. Um... yeah, this was pretty good, but, um... am I the only one who had visions of Tom Jones? I expected to see panties flying onto the stage. Now, I sorta like Tom Jones, truth be told (especially in "The Emperor's New Groove"), but to front INXS? Nah. Also... that voice would NOT hold up for a concert tour. He's doing some serious damage to his instrument singing this way.

10. Deanna. I hate putting her this low, because I really like her a lot. But she is just SO wrong for INXS, it's glaring.

Yeah! Why would she DO that? And apparently, she won a Juno...does she think singing in a lower register will make her sound more like a guy?

NO WAY! Operatically trained?! The way she sounds on this show, it's all so hard to believe. But you've explained how it's possible that she has a successful career. I wondered.

Hmmm...Pat Benatar was operatically trained.

17. "RE: Rock Star Love List: Week 4"
Great show this week, almost everyone was enjoyable.

1. Marty – week after week he takes songs I don’t care for and makes them entertaining. Just an outstanding performer.
2. Suzie – I could name about 100 Beatle songs that would have been a better selection for a competition like this than “Get Back”. No matter who had to sing it they were not going to be outstanding, but I think she got all she could out of it. Comments after about her working with the band and not pushing the limits of the song were good.
3. MiG – I don’t know if he carried the song or if the song carried him, but it was fun to watch either way.

4. Deanna – When she went to INXS, pointed at them and sang “I’m the only one who’ll walk across a fire for you” I laughed so hard tears ran down my cheeks, it was so over the top I loved it. She may not have the voice some of the others have but she knows how to rock the house and have fun.
5. Ty – Had a slow start this week but recovered well. He’s this high because of the hangover from last week’s performance.
6. Tara – I love her voice, her presence on stage, but it just isn’t working here. I expect she’ll do extremely well after the show.
7. Jordis – Great voice and great technique. I know I’m in the minority, but she just doesn’t speak to me when she sings. She’s in good company though, I’m not much for Bono, Springstein, or Sting either.

8. Jessica – A for effort, C for results.
9. Brandon – I thought he had a stroke for a moment, don’t know what that was about. He didn’t do poorly but he didn’t do very well either.
10. J.D. – He had me, I was interested, he was doing great! Then he started making time with the ladies, I forgave him for that because he was doing so well. I unforgave him when he went spazmatic at the end. The perfect song for him and he screwed around with it, wasting talent is such a shame.

20. "RE: Rock Star Love List: Week 4"
LAST EDITED ON 08-03-05 AT 09:57 PM (EST)

1.) Jordis - Love her week in and week out. Will get a contract somewhere.
2.) Marty - Consistently excellent.
3.) Mig - Sings well and seems to be having the most fun.
4.) Deanna - I like her but her range does seem to be limited. And the beating her chest motion is a little weird.
5.) Suzie - Seems to be strong after a rough start to the competition.
6.) Brandon - Is all over the place but sings well at times.
7.) Ty - Too theatrical but a strong voice.
8.) J.D. - Spazmatic is right. He did the same frenetic moves that he was criticized for the first week, only last night they praised him for it. Huh?
9.) Jessica - Great performance last night, but overall it seems like she wears the revealing costumes to distract you from her weak voice.
10.) Tara - Obviously doesn't like to do covers. Her hesitation in answering the question showed that. I'm glad she's out.
