Not sure yet. I've watched the Gordon Ramsay shows on BBC America and it looks like Hell's Kitchen will be more of the same. Brilliant chef, potty mouth, somewhat abusive to staff. My favorite of the 3 on BBC (Boiling Point, Beyond Boiling Point and Ramsay's Kitchen Nightmares) is RKN. He visits once thriving restaurants that have lost business and helps turn them around.

12 peeps have been chosen to compete to win their own resturant. They are brought to the resturant and told they had 45 mins to cook their favorite dish that says something about themselves. The chef goes off on them even before tasting and some he never tasted...he just berated them.

Chef Ramsey obviously never learned the first thing about the restaurant business, "Satisfy the customer." When customers came up to him inquiring about their food, he told everyone to ignore them. He would have lost many customers forever with a statemnet like that.

I agree with you on that. I just wonder what types of training these 12 went through because they don't seem to know what the fvck is going on. It is taking them like 45 mins to fill one order.

I would put up with this guy if I wanted a restaurant that bad. Why not? First of all...it's TV. Second of all...the man probably knows best when it comes to cooking and running a kitchen. Third of all....I might learn something. So yes, I would put up with him.

"Now be a good plank and get back in line".The restaurant guests must all be friends of the producers or got special invites to the place. No way would anyone stay in a place after the chef calls you a bimbo and to F-off! Not to mention you waited an hour for your appetizer! I actually like this show! The hot kitchen would be enough for me to walk away from it, because I can't cope in the heat. I know, if you can't stand the heat, get out of the kitchen! Other comments about tonight's show: I am sorry that CarolAnn (was that her name?) got the boot, because she was the only one who started with a signature dish that he actually liked. I love chicken parmesan and it really did look yummy. Why, oh, why couldn't any of the rest of them come up with a decent signature dish? That was sad. I wondered if he was being too picky or the food was really that bad. The softshell crab looked good, but she spiced it up too much, and that would have turned me off for sure. I'll watch next week, but I don't know how his restaurant is going to make it if he continues to be so rude. Silvergirl

I am with you Seahorse...there is no way those dishes were that terrible. At times Chef Ramsey was being bleeped for saying something before he even tasted of the food. Also, some of the things he was saying was just his opinion. The fish not being done...well, I would have eaten as fixed but my parents would not. The spiciness (sp?) is something else that is questionable. I lvoe cajun food and could eat the heat if I had too. I think the chef was just being a bastard. JMHO.

I agree with you guys totally. Alot of this show seemed soooooooooo fake to me. That Chef was way over the top. He was ACTING for sure. I felt badly for some of these people, especially the ones that are already working in the food industry. Seemed a little fake to me that he hated the chef's dishes but liked the homemakers/mom's specialty dishes. Not 100% a "reality" show, but entertaining none-the-less. Next week should be very interesting for the big blueberry when there's no AC in the kitchen!

Loved watching his shows on BBC-America. He isnt much different on this show as he is on his BBC shows. Which means - I loved it! How can you not enjoy watching a dozen DAWs getting taken to task on national TV?! If it was 'live' it would be perfect! My only complaint is that you do not see him giving any constructive criticism or instruction on how to do better. He might be and its being left on the cutting floor, but I would like to see that... Blueberry....BAWHAHAHAHAHAHAHA... Next weeks is similar to what happened when he opened his own place -- the AC in the kitchen failed on his opening night. Didnt look like a fun place to work that night... Archon "You can get more with a 2x4 and a kind word than with just a kind word." (Marcus, B5)

I would have paid money to have seen those peeps get a real lashing... some really needed it... these peeps maybe not so much.... still. I don't know if I'll watch.. I don't really like the meanness... I thought it might be a reality redemption for the mess that was 'The Resteraunt'aka the Roccateria but I don't think so, at least not after the 1st eppy.

Seems to me I remember a brief flash of them being shown pictures of the food they would be making and some sort of explanation of what they'd be doing. I'm guessing they got a lot more instruction than we were shown. And that would explain a little more why he was so tough on them (aside from the way he normally is...ha ha).

Now that I've caught up on sleep...I knew who Gordon was going in. I probably should have had no idea who he was because high cuisine and I are acquainted only in so much as I'm willing to try eating it, but I've read a couple of Anthony Bourdain's books, and he's mentioned there. So I knew he had a bad reputation for social skills -- and yet, his core staff followed him around from job to job. I even knew his behavior had been on camera before, and he'd been caught doing and saying some really nasty stuff that only served to increase his popularity 'cause the UK loves anyone who'll fill the front page of a tabloid eight days or more in every year. (His original series is apparently a semi-documentary called Boiling Point, and good luck finding it.) So I wasn't expecting Cuddly Chef. I also wasn't expecting to spend most of the show waiting for someone to hit him. I really think this could be the first series where someone commits assault on the host. (The host has, by the most technical legal definition, already done it to the contestants.) And I wouldn't blame them. This is The Apprentice done on the next level, where only one or two of the applicants have any skills relating to the job and everyone else is just there to be fired in various interesting ways. Gordon says he can turn anyone into a master chef? No, he can turn one person into a master chef and that person was chosen during the casting call. Everything else is going to be about keeping the ramped-up production of his public personality on full display for the run of the series, and that means giving him a lot of things to scream about so we can see just what a bad boy he is. I'm hoping one of the contestants -- hopefully not the Chosen One -- realizes this early on and takes a swing at him with an iron skillet. Now that's good television.

I love cooking under fire. All the contestants can actually cook, they have interesting personalities, and the food is interesting. This show seems random, forced and somewhat staged. Carolann said she had "no experience" cooking, which I thought was weird since everyone has SOME experience cooking. Then her signature dish was good. Then, she made the only good dessert. Then she got fired. Very weird. The chef screaming "ignore the bimbos" seemed weird too. I think this show has some real contestants, but I think some of them are plants (like Carolann). I learned nothing about food, either. Not that I won't watch the next episode, but so far...not so good.

Ohmigod - I'm watching it now and loving it!Normally I hate watching people being abused like this, but not in this case. Even more of a shocker, I'm agreeing with most of what he says. Teamwork and high standards - what's so hard to figure out about that? Oh - just seeing the previews for episode two - I don't like the AC being shut off - that's messed up. Maybe I won't like this show after all..... Kim D
