Its Thursday and the show was Monday so allow me a few mental lapses, feel free to correct me.Someone from the Blue team will be going over to the Red. We really don’t have a good handle on who the ‘star’ is on the Blue team in Chef’s eye because he hasn’t had to pick. Red has been decimated and dissected and we pretty much know the pecking order after two eliminations.
Right now, Chris has this thing wrapped up. Its his to lose. I’m a sucker for early editing tactics though so don’t bet the farm on my prediction. If whoever is assimilated from the Blue team doesn’t push Chris’s buttons and force him to fvck up, they’re a target. Chris is no longer under the radar.
In the tradition of Survivor, will the cook transferred from the Blue team (if its one of their best, and if the show expects any Neilson ratings after next week it better be a ‘star’) form an alliance with Chris?
So far Ramsey’s been fair in his decisions. This guy’s a pro and doesn’t need to pretend he’s making his decision based on customer evaluation cards. He’s judge, jury and executioner. This ain’t AI, we don’t get a vote.
With new blood on Red and teams equal at 5 they’ll put Blue on the block this week,. That will identify another leader and keep us watching for another week. Who leaves Blue this week is really not that important.
Week 4. If Red wins in week 3 and now has the advantage of additional personnel in week 4, that’s not much of a contest if Ramsey keeps judging by the same subjective criteria. I can think of some objective criteria for evaluation but it would make for lousy TV. So do we switch to new criteria? Teams develop new menus and get judged by who? Technique versus Taste?
Week 5. Teams are now equal at 4 because Red lost some kind of weird challenge. Fox spent a ton of money on two identical kitchens and probably won’t abandon the team concept this early. I can see it come down to the final two where they have to pick from ‘Losers Lodge’ for their staff for the final showdown. But I’m getting ahead of myself.
Now we have Chris, the Blue person and possibly the former Blue person now with Chris as contenders. Everyone else is garnish. I don’t know how many weeks this show runs but if it takes a week to get rid of everyone besides those three, ratings hell. They should just blow them all off on one show. And for my finale theory to work, they have to get rid of Chris’ Red team member or have some kind of runner up face off with the Blue guy. I don’t know, I’m glad I don’t have to figure out how to get Neilson ratings for a living.
As viewers we have no idea what the criteria is for choosing the winner (let me know if you do). Winning teams are determined by ambiguous and subjective criteria. There isn’t a team that crosses a definitive finish line first each week. It’s a riot to see these wannabes go for the gold though, so I watch.
Just like any other reality TV show, the participants had to go through a thorough screening process. I would guess that Ramsey or one of his executives picked 2 or 3 possibles and left the rest to the producers for our TV viewing edification and enjoyment. This show is like ‘ The Apprentice’ only focused on food. Trump at least pretends that a few decisions are made by others; Ramsey has no pretenses about who is making the call.
Running a successful Ramsey level restaurant requires a huge amount of capital, business management, experience as well as flair and culinary creativity. The best I’ve seen so far is that Chris knows his way around a kitchen.
