"Opening montage shots..."
Is it just me, or is Elsie wearing a Blue Team shirt in most of her shots in the opening? Sure looked like it to me last night. I'd say that Fox might be pulling a Survivor "recolored buff" trick, but this is Fox we're talking about. Looks like either she gets swapped like Michael did or they merge the teams at some point (which would make sense) and they all end up on the blue team. Either way, I'd expect Elsie to last *at least* one more week judging by that.

Dammit.

I hadn't really noticed but you would think that if she makes it long enough for a merge that if blue is the color she gets absorbed by the blue team because she is out numbered. Is that what you are thinking?

Something like that, or maybe she gets swapped. If it's a merge with Blue having the numbers advantage, Jimmy is definitely gone. There was a LOT of focus on his clumsiness.

The question to ask tho is who would be the other person gone? If Elsie makes a merge, then it's obviously Michael or Chris. But I can't think of a scenario where one of them would go before Elsie. I would assume that when a team gets down to three, no one would get to "choose" who to nominate for elimination, since that would be obvious. Maybe Gordon gets to choose and he eliminates someone who *should* be a leader but isn't up to snuff?

I agree...I can't see how Elsie out lasts Michael and/or Chris unless Elsie has another really good night like lastnight but the red team loses. Someone would have to go and like you said they have shown Jimmy and his clumsiness. I wonder if Elsie could pull out a couple of good runs and force Ramsay to choose Michael or Chris.

Either way, with the editing I don't think it would be Chris...do you?

Actually, I could very well see it being Chris. Michael really has been very low key, which is very odd for someone who is outrageous looking as he is. Chris on the other hand has been up front for most of the serious, but while he is good, he has gotten a much more "arrogant" edit then Michael has, and I think him we'll see that "pride goeth before a fall". If I had to guess right now, here's my PTTE:

Jimmy
Chris (you won't BELIEVE who leaves Hell's Kitchen tonight)
(merge?)
Elise
Jessica
Andrew (gets the "learned so much but still falls short" edit)
Ralph
Michael

Some good thoughts but I don't know if Ramsay would pick Michael over Ralph. Lastnight, I noticed that every time something went wrong on the blue team he recruited Ralph to fix the problem. I didn't notice that about the red team and Michael, did you?

But he seems to overall think Michael is better than Ralph, since he picked Michael to go over to the red team. And Michael has never even faced the possibility of elimination. Why? Because the team he's on wins every time.

Based on the opening montage, I think Michael could win the whole thing. During most of the contestant introductions, Chef Ramsey has a negative expression on his face (example, he's shaking his head no). When Michael is shown, the chef is nodding.

Ooh, I missed that. I'll have to go back and check it.

I get a "winner" vibe from Michael. Which is good. Considering his look, I imagine it's kinda hard to get kitchen work otherwise.

speaking as a chef who hires line cooks, i'd have to disagree with your commment. I would hire micheal in a second and i think most chefs would too.

Well, that's good. I'm glad to see some people don't just judge based on outer appearances.

Perhaps we will have a Ralph (more of an "average guy", father figure, traditional) versus Michael (more "cutting edge guy", creative, zesty) finale.

I've been thinking this since Episode 2 (first one I actually watched). Old vs. young, tradition vs. innovation. And if Gordon is doing the picking, I think he's more likely to go with young and innovated over older and traditional, given his own history.

Have we established how the winner will be chosen?

Judging by Kitchen Confidential (the book, not the sitcom, which can't even approach the book without violating every FCC standard there ever was), you can't get hired as a line cook without being heavily tattooed.

Have to disagree with you. Worked the line for over 10 years, and it isn't how YOU look, it is how your food tastes and looks. I'd hire him. Chris on the other hand, haven't seen much to explain to me why he is an executive chef, but it is probably editing.

I know it's bad form to reply to yourself, but I just re-watched the opening montage again and a few more things stood out to me.

There is a shot of Jimmy ALSO wearing blue.
When they show the 12 contestants very quickly, the last one shown is Elsie, but on the word "one" of "one of these 12...", we see Michael.
Most interesting to me is a clip of Elsie in Blue in the kitchen with Gordon telling her "You wouldn't be standing here if I didn't believe in you".

Maybe a Michael-Elsie final 2 after all? With Elsie winning?

The Jimmy in blue shot confuses me too. Perhaps the noodle challenge next week (or another challenge down the road) is to decide which color the teams will wear from now on. Since there are now two seatings, with the teams in the kitchen at separate times, maybe there is no need for separate kitchens/ colors?

Curiouser and curioser. If they don't change colors next week, that means Jimmy and Elsie are definitely safe for one more week, and most likely Andrew or Jessica go home, necessitating a merge at 4-2.
