"Who is strong and who is weak"
I has this show on the brain today and would like to generate more discusion. So who does everyone think is a strong contender and who is weak. It seems to me that the Beavers have more strong people than the Arties. And it is hard to tell from the first show only but here's my take.
Strong contenders;
Amy- seems to know a lot and had an awesome first project
Denise- won the first challenge
Mychael- really good at food and does alot (despite sleeping)
Michelle- Great baker shown doing beatiful stuff in intro

Weak contenders;
Heather- my opinion might change on her but hated her project
Darlene- just annoying
Kimberly and Dawn- seem out of their league

Not enough info yet;
Mitch- I can only guess in the strong group
Tim- If he is a good carpenter will be strong but there was a comment otherwise so we don't know yet
Margo- Didn't see much about her at all

What do you think?

1. "RE: Who is strong and who is weak"
I watched my first episode this past week, so I don't have the names down yet. When I do, I'll pop back in and share my take on the contenders.

Which one designed the green leaf table the last episode? He's a prima donna, but he has potential.

Everyone is entitled to my opinion.

2. "After Episode 2"
This is just my opinion. Please join in and share your opinion as well.

Strong contenders:
Mychael- Remains highest contender when it comes to food, in which the competitions seem to be alot about so far
Denise- Still high on the list
Margo- Only one on the Arties with a chance
Mitch- Despite the fact that I believe eggs are a bad choice for appetizers, he seems to have designed the tablescapes for both episodes which where very nice

Weak contenders:
Heather- Food Fight lamp the first week and tasteless brownies the second leaves her in the weak category
Darlene- same as last week
Kimberly and Dawn- also same as last week

Still can't tell:
Tim- Would they show some more of the hot guy already!
Amy- Moves down to can't tell because I just don't know what she has contributed.

3. "My takes"
After seeing four episodes now, I feel like I can tell a bit more how this will go...

I'm only going to note responses about players that stick in my mind (which are really only a few):

Amy - She seems pretty strong to me, able to do a number of interesting things.

Darlene- I find her personality annoying as well. But I have to say that out of that group I think she has some of the best creative ideas! things like landscaping the grounds for camping, and her wanting to follow the French theme more closely are some examples of good thinking, and I really feel like when some of her ideas were actually listened to the team started winning.

Mitch- This guy is totally self absorbed, and not in a good way. I feel like the judges assessment of his stuff as "shallow" is spot on.

Margo - A little too unbalanced and I think she does have a tendency to take credit for others work.

Personally, I feel like perhaps Darlene deserves to win more than others for attention to detail and following themes more closely. She's not quite as creative as others though, perhaps some of the quieter ones will pull ahead in upcomng weeks.

4. "RE: My takes"
I'll agree with you on the Darlene issue. As annoying as she is, she is one of the stronger ones.

To be honest, and I've said this elsewhere, I don't think any of them is as good as I would think they would need to be. Maybe the application pool was just shallow, but I'm not seeing the "big picture" out of any of them.

We're talking about someone who's going to get a minimum of 6 appearances on the Early Show, plus some other public exposure deals. There have been too many mistakes thus far.

5. "RE: Who is strong and who is weak"
Strong contenders:

Darlene. She grows on you - and has real talent...for cooking on the fly, sewing, "homekeeping" in general.

Denise. Though she didn't fare so well in the editing last episode, i still think she's got her act together more than Kimberly, Dawn, Amy or Heather.

Middle of the road:

Mitch. Can't stand him! but he's a very talented floral designer. His food instincts are all wrong though. I don't see him on his own as a stylemaker. He needs to partner up with someone like Mychael. Whoops.

Not in the league:
Heather. Ugh, ugh, ugh. Overconfident to a ridiculous degree. She can't cook (proved it twice with her doughy brownies and inedible chicken pot pie). Has no common sense either - if you don't have the right ingredients, make something else!!! Her design skills are lacking too - that fug serial killer's favorite apple peel lamp was one of the scarier things i've seen on TV lately. Plus, she's a b*tch.

Amy. She just bugs. I don't trust anyone who simpers and smiles that much. Other than get Bobby his bourbon, what has she done? Go away.

Kimberly. Though her food instincts are good (she knew Margo's campout menu sucked, and she actually did know how to poach an egg), she tends to choke in competition.

Dawn. I like her a lot...but she hasn't done anything to really stand out.

Sadly, i doubt that this show will last more than this season. I'm really enjoying it though. what a b*tchfest!

6. "RE: Who is strong and who is weak"
I agree with you about Denise and Darlene, but regrettably, I'd add Mitch to the list of the strong.

You said that Mitch's food instincts are all wrong, but they weren't during that last episode. Bringing out his grandmother's cinnamon role recipe for brunch was a fabulous choice, and given Bobby Flay's obvious enjoyment, Mitch did a good job preparing them.

I can't stand Mitch, but he's a strong competitor, and well-rounded enough that he can't be counted out.

7. "RE: Who is strong and who is weak"
I think Mitch is very talented. But he does rub some people the wrong way with his huge ego. But then alot of stars do. And this is how he sees himself. And I have to say I am liking Darlene more too. She is very talented also.
