"Wickedly Perfect Episode 3 Discussion"
Anyone watch?

I don't think the turkey burgers were a wise choice, but it looks like they more than made up for it with everything else. Artisan really did have a nicer camp, and the bathroom really sealed it. I wonder if anyone other than David even used it though.

I agreed with Booby Flay (not a typo) in that if you are going to make hamburgers...knock it out of the ballpark!

I actually liked Crafty Beavers camp better except for the bathroom.

Mitch got too much pleasure out of the judges acknowledging his "hands in everything" though.

Who do you think is getting the edit of winner?

Winner? It's hard to say at this point. Honestly, I can't say that any of them should win. So far I see Denise as the strongest, and she's the only one who hasn't lost yet.

And how about the chic labeling everything? I kept waiting for her to label for forehead with a big ol' "L."

The DeFazio School of Interior Design ( Schlamiel! Schlamazel!).

I can't see watching any of these people in their own show. None of them has the personality. I did enjoy watching M. cook, and now she's gone. I also wonder if the "end game" strategy (Survivor-speak, nicht wahr?) is such a hot idea; the Artisans may regret bouncing the chef so quickly, unless redhaired designer girl cooks as well as she says (and her desserts did not back up her claims last week).

Why did Darlene (I think that's her name) stand outside the bathroom waiting for David? She said she wasn't going to listen and then it looked like that was exactly what she was doing. It just seemed odd she didn't at least walk over to a tree till he was done.

I liked a combination of both camps. Just like I like a combination of the people on the two teams. I wonder how the winner will be picked when they get down to the end. Do the judges just elect one when they are down to about 3 people?

Mychael's departure last night shows the flaw in this show: You will be left with the biggest schemer, not the best style maker. Mychael deserves her own cooking show.

My guess is that Mychael will get at least a guest shot on a cooking show. She proved how good she is under very difficult circumstances. Unfortunately, she didn't show her skills at all the other things that the Martha Nueva needs to be. And she was so good that the rest of the team couldn't show their abilities (if, in fact, they have any).

Margo was an idjit for her choice of foods. She whimpered about her kids so much she forgot she wasn't cooking for them. Even Darlene's suggestion of steaks would have been better and I don't agree with much of anything Darlene says, including asking Evangelista if the candle was burning while he was paying tribute to mother nature. Jeesh! I can see why she works for a home shopping service. They're not allowed to stop talking.

I did like the Artisan camp better. Outdoorsy, but clean and sleek. I loved the camping chairs with the tree stumps as end tables and they brought the judges into the entertainment. Candace clearly was having fun for a moment!

Why oh why the judges took into account the living quarters of the help is beyond me. Perhaps we should get a glimpse of his apartment right after Iron Chef America. And if the maid didn't make the bed -- he's gone!

And I thought the blankets and shirts were a nice touch.

I was a little confused about the sleeping quarters. I didn't understand whether or not it was supposed to be the help's living quarters or a possible room for the guests to sleep in.

The Beavers all had separate beds, but at Artisan they only showed one bed. Did all of them sleep in that one bed?

I'm sure all of those judges have someone who makes their beds every morning. Heck their sheets are probably changed everyday. We don't always make our bed, but if we have company coming, it's certainly something I take a moment to do.

ETA: Margo pretty much cetered her universe around her potato salad. Their theme was rustic elegance, so potato salad -- although "campy" certainly isn't elegant.

And I was wondering why the Crafty Beavers didn't consider the possibility that the judges would be in the tent. Sleeping quarters are a part of camping, aren't they? C.B.s were NTB (Not Too Bright)

I find this show entertaining and it is too bad the ratings haven't been good - it has some potential. However, I do think they have errored in the way they have set up the competitions.

I think instead of having individual projects (which for the most part have been second rate afterthoughts) they should randomly draw who is responsible for a certain aspect of the project and then be evaluated on that. It seems like each person is doing their niche thing in each challenge but the whole point of the show is that they are supposed to be all-around domestic divas. Instead of judging the two worst projections the judges could critique the two worst aspects of the losing team's presentation.

I like your idea. The Marthawannabe must have all around skills. Forcing the team members to take on a different aspect each week would make some sense.

I wonder how that might affect the team planning side of things though.

Wow...Bucky is watching Wickedly Perfect AND enjoying it?!? I'm impressed. Really.

I agree that the individual projects is a weak portion of this game. If I turn my head at any point in the show, there is a huge possibility that I will miss the showing of the few individual projects. I would say that your idea would definitely be a better way to find the overall winner. It would add a bit of the "boardroom" game play into it.

Nice to see you stranger!

>I think instead of having individual

>that.

I'm not sure I agree - I think I might prefer to go the other way, to have more focus on the individual projects.

The thing I like about the individual projects is that they are a way for someone with a really good all-around ability to be creative (the ultimate goal of the show) to survive a bad team - as long as they are smart about always making sure to dedicate time to projects regardless of how the team project is going. A person worthy of winning in the end, in theory, should never be removed even if the team does poorly week-to-week.

If you think about it, the individual projects are also kind of doing what you wanted - which was to have people display talents in all sorts of different areas. The first could be construed as a food challenge (to use apples), the second as kind of a themeing test (how well you can make a gift bag that matches the party theme) and the last episodes challenge as a test of the ability to create something from very raw materials.

I like this approach because it lets you (and the judges) see the the abilities of each person in a "pure" context, without help or interference from other players. The problem I see with your suggestion is that I think there would be too-much crossover in work, people who were naturally pushy would tend to bleed over into other areas and perhaps carry team-members that were not deserving to continue, and also mask talent or a lack thereof. I really feel like as they have it set up, in the end individual projects will have some role in selecting the winner.

The problem I see with the individual projects as they have them is that we really do not see them!! They flash by on the screen very quickly, we never get a good sense of who made what without a lot of effort. The first episode was actually pretty good in this regard, we got to see who made what and heard what the worst as well as the best projects were. But shows since then have been terrible in presenting the projects and we don't even see the winning teams projects. Since this is supposed to be a show to appeal to people who watch other style shows, you would think they would want to spend a lot of time going over these cute side projects so you would head for the web site for some idea how to make them.

On a related note, I feel like the contestants have mostly done a pretty poor job on individual projects. They seem to lack any understanding of what the topic at hand is, and many seem content to buy some cheap trinket and glue stuff onto it. That's not crafty, that's just crappy.

I do like the concept of the show, I don't think CBS does a very good job of presenting it. I also fear we may not ever see the last episode, I've been watching the HDTV feed from LA, and the last episode they stopped broadcasting the HDTV version. I sense that CBS is rapidly dropping support for this show, at least it's not dropped as fast as "The Will"... I hope CBS at least will stick by it and keep airing the episodes after it moves to its new, far more deadly timeslot (same time as The Will in fact...).

18. "RE: Support for individual projects"
First off, welcome to the boards! I'm honoured that my post brought you out of lurking.

I agree with a lot of what you said. My main problem is that certain people were only doing a narrow range of tasks. By narrowing the type of individual projects to be done would also accomplish what you suggest. For instance, in the first week with the apples the contestants should have been forced to make a food dish containing apples. In this last week, the contestants should have been forced to prepare an object made of wood to be used for camping.

And your point about showing more of the individual projects is right on. The problem is that there is no conflict/drama in showing that and that is what makes reality television what it is. I also share your pessimism about this show - it will get cancelled or moved to another night very soon.

Depriving the public of my talent is letting the terrorists win.

19. "RE: Support for individual projects"
Indeed you are correct about your post having drawn me out of lurking, I have been reading some of these forums off and on for around a year now (though really more off than on) as I watch mostly the Amazing Race and the Apprentice (I used to watch Survivor for the first few seasons but I weaned myself from it as it was altogether too much TV for my liking). Oh and also American Idol, but I'm not sure I consider that so much Reality TV as a nice variety show.

Partly though it was also Wickedly Perfect itself that drew me here - I went to the CBS site looking for a way to comment on the problems I was seeing, and finding nothing turned to google - which led to this board.

Currently despite the flaw I find that Wickedly Perfect is actually my favorite reality TV show, at least the one I look forward to the most and spend the must time mulling over what occurs after the show ends each week.

I agree with you that the individual projects should be more narrowly defined than they are - like you said, they should have made the first weeks challenge be food-only! Though I thought they had done that this past week when watching the show, I could have sworn they said "make an object from natural items only, incorporating this map". To me, the only project that came close to adhering to the requirements I heard was actually Darlene's basket as it was the item that used the least amount of bought goods in the final product (even that had some kind of plastic or glass beads woven through it). Things like the survival kit, or even the bridge (built with processed lumber instead of logs whittled by hand) should have just been discarded as missing the point.

On a side note even though I find Darlene's personality grating so far, I have to say that I find her ideas generally very good and her team would be well served to listen to her more.

Shows like these and the tendency to make the unveiling of the winner live TV, make me wonder if the contracts people sign going in state there may be no winner if the show is canceled before the final show. A shame to spend all this effort working on the show if it may just be canceled before the end. I'll keep watching though...

I agree. It's only a matter of time before the contestants wise up and start putting more effort into what ultimately counts instead of the team projects. It really doesn't matter how well the teams do, it's those individual projects that make or break them.

I just hope they wise up before the series gets cancelled.

To avoid all effort being put into individual projects, there should be some scoring factor that considers how well each person participates on the team.

You'll get my overly long opinion tomorrow after I finish watching the episode -- I taped the whole thing, but only watched the first half before switching over to Donald And DAWs. I think I found a few places to attack, starting from and including the opening credits.

I wasn't exactly impressed, but I can't stand Olde Martha either.

Though the idea was cool they really should have made it a proper outhouse with Real Hole-in-Ground Technology (tm), rather than the Furry Box of Horror.

Not that I didn't think it looked opulent, but like you said the seat was impractical, and just the thought of some poor guy disassembling that box after the camping trip was over...

The candle was a cute attempt to correct a really bad design flaw.

Also (and this is just me) I would have somehow carpeted the path between the bedroom area and the "outhouse" so that you could use it late at night in bare feet. Now that's luxury.
