Everyone has known for years that Trump wanted to buy an NFL team. That's part of why he was an organizer of the USFL back in the 1980s. And the Bills would be the perfect team for him to buy. Last year, Ralph Wilson signed a contract that committed the team to Buffalo until at least the year 2020. Thus, anyone that wants to buy the team to move right away is barred from doing so. Trump, who has been waiting for 30 years for a seat at the NFL table, doesn't have any commitment to any particular city and would love the opening into Canada that owning the Bills provides. Donald's ego is like the universe: no matter how big you think it is, it can always get bigger. I do think there's an obstacle here, though, and I'll sum it up in two words: John Spano. Now, Donald actually has money. But -- how much? For a rich man, his businesses seem to go under on a fairly regular basis. I think the NFL would want him to open the books and prove he's got the funds for this -- which I feel is the one of the things which has actually kept him from running for political office, beyond that whole 'I am perfect as long as I never have to do anything' bit. I suspect he'd be reluctant to do so, and becoming part of a purchase group -- does his ego insist the team must be all his? However, I feel his Tea Party cred will not be damaged by associating with a socialist market. Because, y'know, football.
