LAST EDITED ON 09-07-12 AT 12:14 PM (EST)And to think, my Orioles are the ones delivering the smackdown! I have been checking to see if there are any indications that Hell has frozen over. In most recent seasons, the O's have been statistically eliminated by the end of the first month. After all, those of us born in Baltimore are taught three essential sports rules: 1) Always cheer against the Yankees. 2) Always cheer against the Redskins. 3) Always cheer against the Colts, since Irsay stole them from Baltimore in the middle of the night.

I have to admit, I would enjoy seeing Yankee fan reaction to losing the play in game.

LAST EDITED ON 09-30-12 AT 12:01 PM (EST) Looks like they'd have Andy Pettite available for the play-in game, so I don't think the Yankees would be terribly worried about that game. But if Oakland can jump ahead of the Yanks, the travel schedule will be murderous. Play vs the Red Sox on Wednesday, fly to Oakland on Thursday and if they win, fly back to New York for the start of their five game set (IIRC, the lower ranked team plays at home the first two games then go on the road for the final three).
Wondering what's the tie-breaker if NYY and OAK tie... Edited - NYY and OAK tied at 5-5 vs each other this season (very odd, they played 7 games in Oak and only 3 in NY). It says that "division record" is the next tie-breaker if two teams remain tied for both wild card spots, so I'm assuming that's the record against each other's division -- NYY is 20-15 vs the West and OAK is 28-18 vs the East. Unbalanced schedule, but OAK should have the advantage in winning percentage. If the A's end up getting home-field advantage here because of a tie and the Yanks lose, expect a LOT of loud bleating over the unfairness of it all ("Oak got to beat up on two lousy teams while we only got one to play against!") with the unbalanced schedules. I think I'm going to root really, really hard for a tie just to see the whole kerfuffle.

This delirious O's fan cannot believe that the 15-year drought is over. Finally. The division is still up in the air with two games left - Yankees have the upper hand, but O's are still in the hunt to win the division title. Wow, I'm still not used to being able to say that after April.

I knew this year was going to be awful with Larry Lucchino and Bobby Valentine in charge of the Red Sox.http://community.realitytvworld.com/boards/DCForumID82/3158.shtml#41 I just didn't know that it was going to be SO bad that Lucchino would have to throw Valentine under the bus after only one year in an effort to save his own phony-baloney job, which looks like it may happen today. I wonder if this fiasco will help John Henry to finally realize that Larry Lucchino doesn't know anything about actually running a baseball team. The sniping will be fun.
