Yeah, it would have been nice for her to go out on her own terms, but the Alzheimer's is becoming more and more obvious. There were reports that she was starting to have to brace herself by holding onto tables while meeting with people or the media, for example. I hadn't yet heard that part about having to brace herself, but if they already had Holly Warlick basically running the show and doing all the interviews, she must be deteriorating faster than they had expected. She, as well as her family, staff and AD, probably didn't want to risk her having some kind of public incident, or risk her declining so fast that she became unable to appear in public in the middle of next season, so they probably decided it was best for her to take a less public role now between seasons.   Remove | Alert Edit | Reply | Reply With Quote | Top

She has certainly been one-of-a-kind as a coach. She had originally taken a grad assistant's job, then the previous coach quit at the last minute to start on a doctorate, so they offered her the head job and she took it. LAST EDITED ON 04-21-12 AT 07:31 PM (EST) Alzheimer's is a hard thing to deal with, my sympathies go to those who suffer the disease and the care givers. Leon Barmore seems to also be suffering from a degenerative disease of some kind, possible also Alzheimer's. He shows up on the sidelines of his former student Kim Mulkey's games, and seems to be pretty shakey.
