This detective is the one who the old guy hired to squash the thought of Mike as suspect in the murder Paul committed, after they found the jewlry in Mike's garage. The detective kept baiting Mike about having to deal with an ex drug dealer, and Mike replied that he had served his time. The detective kept harping on "What has the justice system come to" that he had to deal with Mike. Having enough, Mike got in his face and asked what the going rate was for a homicide detective. There was an implied threat in the words that Mike had knowledge on him. That was why, after he beat him, he threw down the file and told Mike it had been "misplaced" and no one had better, ever, hear otherwise. I think the detective looking for Dana that Paul talked about is the reason for the body in the box. She was the detective.
