I saw this earlier on MSN, and wanted to share. I just hope we don't have to endure Jessica Simpson on DH
Things are probably already pretty tense on the set of "Desperate Housewives," what with Nicollette Sheridan finding herself odd vixen out when the Golden Globe nominations were announced on Tuesday, but could the cast soon be facing added stress in the form of a youthful and hypermammiferous new neighbor?
In a report that you should read with a towel to soak up the splash from all the shark-jumping going on, the Insider says Jessica Simpson and her suddenly plump and pouty lips could jiggle their way onto Wisteria Lane.
"There's talk of her being on an episode or two," says a snitch.
No word on what role the soon-to-be-ex Mrs. Lachey, 25, would supposedly essay on the ABC sudser, but given the acting chops she showed off in "The Dukes of Hazzard" (and by "acting chops," we mean her mastery of the word "undercarriage" and her ability to walk and talk while wearing an itsy-bitsy bikini), she'd surely be able hold her own against the likes of Felicity Huffman and Marcia Cross.
And could the rumored guest spot have been the reason for Simpson's recent tête-à-tête with Eva Longoria, currently the youngest and most nubile Housewife? The Insider spied them breaking bread (that's just an expression -- we're guessing their forks never brushed against a carb) at an L.A. eatery last week.
At the end of their meal, Eva evidently used the old bathroom bait-and-switch, telling Jess she needed to use the facilities but instead grabbed their waiter and paid the bill.
"Thanks for making me laugh," Simpson told Longoria, according to an eavesdropping diner. "You know how much I need that right now."
So was it girl talk or a business meeting? While Jessica's flack isn't commenting (somewhere, her PR-loving dad Joe is rubbing his hands together and giggling happily), a "Desperate" rep maintains to the Insider that the newly solo starlet is not being considered for a role.
Simpson is just the latest name to be floated for a guest-starring stint on the top-rated dramedy. Courteney Cox recently pooh-poohed a report claiming she was going to appear as an escapee from a mental institution, while Halle Berry and Elton John have both expressed interest -- so far one-sided -- in going claw to catty claw with the cast.
And if Longoria has her way, the show, which has fended off critical barbs for its slow-moving second season, will continue to remain free of "Will & Grace"-style celebrity pop-ins.
"If we had Britney Spears playing a neighbor, the viewers would be like, 'That's Britney Spears playing a neighbor!'" the actress said. " Marc really chooses the best actor for the job."
