If my thinking is correct then Kate is not a candidate. Those who are: Locke (name crossed out), Sawyer, Hurley, Jack (23), Sun or Jin (not sure which yet), and Sayid. I found this:

True. 51 Austen is not one of the original numbers but I still think she is very important. The fact that she was on Jacob's list must mean something. Perhaps if it comes down to Jack (Jacob) and James (MIB) as the last two standing, who Kate chooses will be very important.

I didn't hear her saying she was with her father so I'll have to rewatch. Even so, Claire couldn't have seen XLocke as MIB before so her "friend" changed appearance and it didn't bother her. The similarities between Locke's arrival on the island and Christian's must mean something.

My guess on who #108 was? Widmore. *gasp*No real answers last night, but it was a good episode. I enjoyed it. Claire was bad! Bad bad bad!!! Wow. I agree with whomever guessed that the LA storyline is what will happen after they save the island, or whatever they are doing there. LOL They each will come to peace with what they have been struggling with.

I thought this episode was amazing, and I think we are indeed starting to get answers. In fact I am beginning to wonder if the skeletons are Claire and Jack, with the pouch of a white and black stone. Dark Forces:
1. Smokey, XLocke, MIB is inhabiting the body of the deceased John Locke
2. Claire was affiliated with Christian, her father, and her friend
3. Christian and her friend both told her that the others had taken her child
4. Claire has been branded and tortured as Sayid has been
5. Did Claire die, and thus she's been "infected" with the dark force?
6. As Sayid died, has he been infected with the dark force as well?
7. OR, are both Claire and Sayid still capable of being good but are being told lies and temptations by the devil, smokey?
8. Clearly, this sets up Christian as being claimed, possessed, and used by Smokey, but now that Smokey is inhabiting Locke's body, and he's "stuck" that way, where is Christian? Is he still a "being" or just a dead body somewhere?
9. The dark forces, XLocke, Claire, accompanied by Sawyer and Jin are now going to the Temple.
10. I don't think that Jin will be able to "be recruited" as Sawyer has been? Light Forces:
1. Jacob appears to his loophole, vehicle, Hurley
2. Jack is THE CHOSEN ONE
3. Jack must figure it out on his own
4. IT's ALL ABOUT JACK, "he has what it takes", he has to do something
5. Shepard's all hold a special place upon the Island...Christian, Claire, JACK, Aaron
6. Jacob brought them as far away as possible from the Temple because someone bad is arriving there, and it's too late, they are already there.
7. How can I overlook Shannon's inhaler.
8. The revisit to the caves....Jack's fathers coffin, and the missing body. The commentary from Hurley about the possibility of them finding their own coffins...but clearly, shouldn't the bodies be of two that are opposing...light and dark rocks are present....could they be Claire and Jack? Other comments: Kate's name Austen was written on the wheel with a number and her name was not crossed out. Flash sideways: What would have happened if Oceanic Flight 815 had not crashed...WOW! Jack doesn't remember his appendectomy. Jack's father is still awol. Christian was still a bast*rd IRL and why would he make it easy for them after he dies? Jack was still terrified of him. Jack refuses the offer of alcohol....good for him. JACK HAS A SON? Where did he come from??? Should we even try and guess who the mother is? Jack's son was just as he was as a boy, but Jack tells him that he could never fail him. Dogan...comments to Jack about his son's gift. And so much more....

I have absolutely loved the way this season is being filmed. The lighting is gorgeous. It is like they are filming at sunset. A few scenes so far stand out in a cinematic way for me so far...Sawyer and Flocke in the entrance of the cave with the ocean behind them, Kate by the river when Jack and Hurley leave the Temple, and also from last night the whole Jack and Hurley up in the lighthouse. Beautiful lighting. I definately am convinced that there is no good and evil. MIB is not evil and Jacob is certainly not good. I was convinced that Desmond would be 108. Loved Claire's creepy baby. I want that in a sig pic! This season they have replaced the whoosh with the airplane noise, however last night it seemed like the airplane noise was getting a bit fractured like it was breaking. Especially after Jack noticed his scar. Are the 2 realities bleeding into one?

Jack's son is reading the Alice Books. The second one is Through the Looking Glass, where Alice climbs through the mirror into a world where everything is reversed. The world turns out to be a chess game where at Square 8, she the pawn becomes a queen.Wow, this is definately significant as the mirrors were indeed "looking glass" for Jacob, and for Hurley and Jack as well when they were up there. Wonder if Jack will become the "king", so to speak. His favorite number was 42...Sun and Jin. Maybe if Jack doesn't figure things out, the "last candidates", Sun and Jin will qualify...who knows, perhaps they could be the skeletons in the cave...?

This episode made me happy. I loved the "ah ha!" at realizing that the numbers were on the compass and that's how they correspond with the names. That was great. The mirror reminded me of something from The Wizard of Oz - specifically from Ozma of Oz which was a later book in the Oz series, where Dorothy made it back to Oz (by boat.) Dorothy ends up obtaining a mirror that can be used to look in on people in faraway places, and she leaves it with Glinda. They agree that Glinda will check on Dorothy at specific times and if Dorothy gives a special sign Glinda will whisk her back to Oz for a visit.
I loved loved LOVED Jack's story. Loved him as a dad. Loved him with Hurley and like mrc, I thought that his line that he was broken and thought the island could fix him was brilliant. I was a little afraid that he was going to beat up Hurley.
Hurley, as a character, has been handled so well. It would be easy to have him be a clown or only be there for comic relief, but they've managed to have him be a wonderful balance of light and comic, and deep and poignant. He's a wonderful vehicle for peeking into the other character's souls, through his honest and innocent conversations with them. No wonder Jacob is using him. He's great. I said it up above but Smokey isn't in Locke's body. They buried Locke's body. Smokey is borrowing Locke's essence or presence, or, dare I say, soul, but not his body. I have no idea if Smokey was borrowing Christian's body (Or Yemi's body, since Yemi appeared to Eko) but whatever those apparitions are, one key difference is that the whereabouts of Locke's body are well known. Christian's body is missing, and didn't Yemi's body disappear from the plane? Smokey-Locke walked right past Locke-in-a-Box on the beach by the temple. Apparently killing Jacob has made him even more powerful than before. I don't think Hurley's Obi Wan Kenobi line was a throwaway. So. . . do we know that the cave where Smokey took Sawyer, with the names on the wall, was actually Jacob's cave? Smokey said it was, but do we trust Smokey? Why would Jacob have the same names scrawled/crossed off in the cave if he has all of them in the lighthouse? Maybe it was Smokey's cave. Didn't that little encounter with Kate seem odd? It seemed weird to me. Maybe it was just to let us know Kate was heading to the temple, but it was awkward. Maybe the skeletons are Mib/Jacob.

I agree with all you wrote. However...We don't know if it was Smokey's cave or even Jacob's lighthouse do we? Maybe it's the reverse? Maybe Jacob wanted Jack to destroy's Smokey's mirrors! Maybe Smokey wanted to throw Jacob's rock off the scale! I do agree that encounter with Kate was weird(if not beautifully lit  ) Very out of character for all. It was almost like they passed each other by in the mall. As far as Christian inhabited by MIB? Who knows? But we do know that Eloise Hawking told Jack to put his father's shoes on Locke(which were black) and Christian originally had white shoes on! Hawking was a member of Richard's Others so far as we know, and they appear to be on Jacob's side. Plus we saw "Christian" after we saw MIB take on the appearance of Locke's body(at the Dharma barracks with Sun and Frank). You are correct in saying like in the FS Christian's body is STILL missing. Maybe it never made it to the island and is in Berlin(where the Economist is!) like in the FS? LOL. Confusing...

He is the one that told Sun and Frank that their friends, Jack, Kate, Sawyer, Hurley and Jin were all in 1977, he showed them their picture. He also told them to wait for Locke...he instructed her to wait for Locke because together they will be able to rescue the others from the past. So, XLocke was already up and running when this Christian appeared to Sun and Frank. And, remember, smokey is "stuck that way". So, WHO is inhabiting Christian? Can we assume since he instructed them to wait for Locke that whoever is inhibiting him is with the dark force? I also wanted to add that when Bram first found Miles and took him in the van, he warned him that if he didn't come with him, he would be on the "wrong side"....
He had previously agreed to go to the freighter and get paid by Widmore. So, Widmore is on the opposite side of Bram, Ilana, Jacob? So, does that mean that Ben is on the right side, as he opposes Widmore? Widmore recruited Locke to go and gather the survivors of Oceanic 815 and return, and if Locke didn't go back the "wrong side" would win the war. Locke accepted, and then was killed by Ben. Ben was used by XLocke...XLocke and Widmore are on the same side. The side that opposes Jacob, the others, Ilana.

I think that old Smokey WAS able to change his appearence before Jacob was killed because we saw that it became Alex when XLocke brought Ben to be judged. At this point, Smokey was "Locke", but CLEARLY was Alex too... who told Ben to do whatever "Locke" asked of him. I guess if we think along those lines, Smokey could've been Christian in the barracks. I think that he's stuck as Locke now because Jacob was killed. Maybe that freezes him in which ever human shape he has taken. I DON'T KNOW, just a thought...

I thought Kate was going to look for Claire, not back to the temple. And that's why they met up with her, to foreshadow along with Claire's line of killing Kate if she was raising Aaron.
