The dead never really seem to stay deaf afterall. If I recall, Darlton said that they had had plans for this character but that the actor had requested to be released due to personal reasons (death of both parents). I always thought his story was fascinating and that he would be an integral part of the show. I mean what are the chances that he would crash on the same island his brother crashed on? And what about Libby? The producers have always said that she would play a big part in the show and so far, nothing. I mean she was in the same asylum as Hurley and then they're on the island together and then she gave Desmond, a stranger and someone who has turned out to be a major part of the show, a boat which brought him to the island!
