Update: Part 1 (for anyone who misses it)-Eko asks Cindy to look after the two children that AL and he saved. -Mr. Eko is starting to pull corpses out of the water. -Libby just snapped a guy's leg back into place, former med-school. -A guy got thrown from his plane seat into the jungle trees, the guy next to Bernard isn't lookin good. -Bernard barely grabs on to a branch in time before the plane seat smashes into the ground. -Note: The episode is giving a lot of attention to a guy we haven't seen (Peace Corps) so far, name is Goodwin (which means we've heard of him...not a good sign). -Eko is sitting alone after he pulled the corpses out of the water. Reveals that none of the corpses he pulled were African-American to Bernard, so Bernard has some hope about Rose. He's pretty devestated -Noises are coming from the jungle/camp at night, struggling. AL, Eko, Goodwin go into forest. Eko is soaking wet (sweat, sort of like Walt maybe?), there looks to be missing people, and he's panting as we go to break

Update Part 2Day 2 Eko's shirt is extremely bloody, and there are more corpses on the ground (here before them?), Eko is silent at this point. Three guys are missing. AL is arguing with...pretty much everyone...regarding whether to find safer ground. Some really obvious Jack/AL parallels here. Day 3 The infection in Donald (I think)'s leg is worsening with no solutions Day 5 Donald's dead from the infection and he is being buried. AL is comforting the two children, Eko still silent Day 7 They are all chasing a chicken/rooster/birdthing, they catch and roast it. Not enough to feed that group of people. Eko's still silent. Libby goes over to talk, I think Eko's silent about killing those three guys Day 12 AL's about to go look for boar. Some guy is acting suspicious, going to the bathroom alone, only around in bad situations it seems. We see the legs of what we can assume are the others, and the kids are being kidnapped. All the kids are gone and AL takes down one of them, but not before they get away. The others have a list of 9 of the group, found on the dead one's body, with a knife no less...

The suspicious one is Nathan, although I don't think he's up to anything ultimately. He's just having a massive personality conflict with Ana Lucia . . . although it certainly seems like they're setting him up as Quisling.

On day 5 the guy with the broken leg died from infection and they buried just off the beach. They are now chasing a chicken and they catch it and roast it over the fire. Day 12 and Ana is making a huge spear/like weapon. Ana is taking a lead role making sure everyone is doing what they should like go to the bathroom in pairs. That night the others show up on the beach while they sleep and they took the kids and what looked like one adult. Ana gets into a fight with one of them and she hits her over the head with a rock and kills her. Ana goes through her pockets and finds a list of survivors from the plane as Ana says it is a list of us!

Part 3Eko can't find anyone, even dragging 9 people into the jungle, AL is upset, Eko still not talking. The list had extremely detailed info about the 9 they took. AL is accusing the bathroom guy of possibly giving information. Now everyone is agreeing that they need to go into the forest. AL doesn't trust bathroom dude one bit Day 15 The group is trekking into the forest, AL wants to (SURPRISE) keep walking, the group decides to stay at a fresh-water stream, rock wall, and fruit tree area Day 17 A massive hole (like the hatch oddly) is being dug by AL, Nathan (bathroom dude) is creeping out the psychologist (Libby). She's digging the hole as a trap? Day 19 Nathan and Bernard were building a rabbit trap, and down he goes into the ditch where Sawyer/Michael/Jin were held. AL doesn't think he was on the plane, no one saw him on the plane...Ethan Rom again? AL opens up the ditch to talk to him, and Nathan isn't giving up any info. Nathan: Canada, was on a retreat, claims he waas in the bathroom for 2 hours Day 23 Asks again, where are the kids. Nathan is silent. And he has been being given food in the ditch. Eko still not talking, AL trying to find out who has been giving him food. The rest of the group is worried about AL, and Goodwin is conversing with her. Goodwin trying to convince him to let him go, and AL responds with the concept that she'll torture Nathan tommorow. We still don't know where the gun has come from from a while back. Goodwin lowered a rope for Nathan, and is telling Nathan to run away since they fear AL will hurt her, did Goodwin just kill him? What? I missed that last part, was it Goodwin who killed Nathan, or vice-versa.

That was strange as hell, and it makes no sense. Could Goodwin be the spy, or wow, that's just strange. If Nathan was the mole of the camp, why kill him? Just keep him there, and protect him from AL.

Yup, twas Goodwin. Either the fact that Nathan's first question was where the beach was tipped Goodwin off that Nathan was the spy, or Goodwin is the spy, or something else entirely. The interesting thing is that AL seemed to have a high opinion of Goodwin and is under the impression that he was taken by the Others. Would be ironic if he turned out to be the traitor, and he still has some cache to play out if he shows up at the other camp.

Goodwin hides the fact he killed Nathan and the next morning AL decides to leave because she thinks the others have found them. They find a door and it is their part of the hatch/shelter they were in when Sawyer and co. found them. They also find blankets, a Bible, glass eye and a radio that does work. They say they have to go to higher ground to get it to work and AL goes with Goodwin to higher ground. AL asks Goodwin why they are attacking them and Goodwin says maybe they aren't being attacked. Goodwin explains the first night they took the strong ones and AL says they didn't take Goodwin. AL starts asking Goodwin how the others got the military knife even when they don't wear shoes. Goodwin was the one that found Bernard in the trees and now AL is asking how he found Bernard because Goodwin was running to the beach. AL says he ran out of the jungle 10 mins after the crash and he was never in the ocean. So AL asks where are they...his friends (the others). Goodwin tells AL that Nathan was not a good person and that is why he wasn't on the list and that the children are fin and are better off. AL jumps Goodwin and they get in a huge fight and roll down a hill. AL grabs a stick and pretty much stabs Goodwin to death as Goodwin is flying through the air and lands on the stick.

I'm 100% sure that Goodwin said "good person." As far as Jack's group is concerned, perhaps the Others haven't gotten around to harvesting them yet. They've been pretty busy with the tailies . . . but now that the scraps of the tailies have hooked up with the main group, I think the Others have a new target on their hands.

Remember, "good", can mean a lot of things. A "good" person, to the Others, may mean that they are healthy and compliant. Goodwin, as the mole, was learning a lot about the people around him. He was then providing the information to the rest of the Others. If you are capturing people to help perpetuate your group, or even just to do tasks that you need done (read "Slaves") then you don't want "leaders". Nathan, AL, Libby and the psychologist all appeared to be people with strong opinions or willing to take action. Bernard may have been considered "too old" and Ecko was quiet and reserved before he was attacked. In the second raid - he was left alone because he had proved to be too formidable. "good" doesn't have to mean "moral" at all, just be a "good" specimen to "harvest".

Day 24: AL wakes up next to Goodwin, and she is told Nathan is gone by Cindy. Goodwin doesn't tell her anything, and they're movingDay 26: Nothing notable Day 27: They find a bunker-type thing (hatch?). Six people left in the group and Eko goes ahead to look. (Goodwin, Bernard, AL, Eko, Libby, Cindy?) Another Dharma symbol! They found electricity in the hatch, they open a chast to reveal a sack. Books, a glass eye (?!?), a radio. They are trying to use the radio, no signal due to the hills. AL is insistant on going with Goodwin to use the radio. Goodwin is laying out who they took. They took the strongest men the first time. Goodwin asks AL for the knife to cut a fruit. AL says the knife is US Military and she knows a lot about the knife. She notes the knife is about 20 years old. AL is suddenly suspicious about him, and she thinks Goodwin is someone else, and she's pulling a Locke on him! Busted! And Nathan was the wrong guy, he was on the plane. Goodwin's the mole. Christ, AL is observant Goodwin: "The children are better off", and we have a fight. AL disarms him of the sharpened stick, grabs it, and he pulls a Cassius on himself, falling on the sword. And that's where the clip of Goodwin with the stick through him came from. Wow, I didn't see that coming. Did he say "Nathan was not a good person, he was not on the list." Does this have something to do with only kidnapping moral people, and people who have not been corrupted like children? Day 41: Bernard keeps trying to use the radio, and Boone's transmission! And AL shuts if off, thinking Boone is one of the others, calling himself one of the survivors of Flight 815! AL is refusing to believe there are survivors...sounds familiar. AL is looking hopeless and is now crying, I have to assume due to the situation. Eko speaks. First time he's talked in 40 days. He only talked when she started to cry.

It's only extended by 5 minutes, so this last part won't be that long.Day 45 Libby and Cindy are making a net, and they see someone washed up on the shore. IT'S JIN!!! Jin is blindfolded, and Eko is there when it is taken off. Poor Jin, he can't understand anything. And Jin's running, no one but AL thinks he's a threat, and Michael/Sawyer come on shore, and he thinks they are the others. And Eko lays the smackdown. They are thrown in the ditch. And Ana Lucia is "hit" and "thrown in the ditch". Flashbacks and such, Day 46-47 (the gun was from Saywer, duh. Wow). The rest is simply a flashback from the past few episodes Day 48 They get where Cindy is lost, The voices return, AL is pointing her gun, she sees a body running through the forest and shoots, it is Shannon. It was a mistake, she through she was one of the others I guess. And they meet again, episode over Coming Attractions Wow. It was too fast for me to catch, I bet a lot of misdirection, FANTASTIC episode. She shoots again?

Wow. AWESOME episode, much more interesting than last week. I loved the opening scene, it reminded me of the Season 1 Pilot, which I thought was amazing.I think it's obvious why they have "trust issues" now, lol. And I actually like Ana-Lucia a lot after this episode. Probably one of my top three characters. I liked the whole "who's the Other?" thing, where they were suspicious first of Nathan and then of Goodwin...I also like the irony in Goodwin's name. He's not really good, he killed Nathan. Anyway, there was a lot of material in this episode, and I absolutely loved it!

Yeah, that second shot thing is a problem. Unless they are jumbling clips around, and we are really looking at the first shot from another person's point-of-view. Sort of like Kate's view of Desmond's standoff with Jack in the hatch.

LAST EDITED ON 11-16-05 AT 11:40 PM (EST)Eh, I don't think it was usless. I think it was very important to establish these people and their personalities before tossing them into the mix. Going into the next episode, we know that Bernard is a little weak and a bit of a softy; Libby is a bit of an upjumped follower (kind of like a Sun character) which is fine with me because the other side already has too many chiefs and not enough indians; Ana Lucia is supposed to be the take-charge, gritty, type-A alpha female (which is already annoying for me); Cindy is absent (literally and figuratively); Mr Eko is seemingly complex and Locke-esque. Now we won't have to suffer 6 episodes of flashbacks for each character. Nor will our main characters have to be off-screen so we can get the vibe from the new folks. (Though, I agree, it could have been a 5 minute "recap". I amused myself by calling out the name of their doppleganger on the other side. Ana was Jack, Eko was Locke, Goodwin was Rom (which I figured immediately, thanks to the overdone "bait and switch" nonsense seen in a thousand other tv shows, novels, and movies). It just kept on and on. It made it passably fun to watch, but I certainly won't be "talking about for years to come" or "around the water cooler" or whatever the tag line was. It was the Pilot episode recast, is all.)

Now we won't have to suffer 6 episodes of flashbacks for each character.I think the introduction of these characters as regulars will result in flashback episodes centered on them to give us their backstory. I know I want to know more about why Ana Lucia is so intense and why she was on Flight 815. I want to know more about Eko. I imagine we will get a bit of backstory on Rose and Bernard, as well. Overall, I really liked this episode. I didn't at first, but then I watched it again. Goodwin gave us some better insight to the Others' intent and I gained a bit more sympathy for AL (if I had been in a group where all the children were taken, and more than half of the original survivors disappered, I'd be a bit quick to shoot first, ask questions later as well). As with all the previous episodes, this one left me with many more questions than I began the episode with. And that's okay by me. I don't want to know everything right away...anticipation is the biggest part of the fun. If you don't have time to do it right the first time, when are you going to find time to do it again? - Anonymous

I was not looking forward to last night but I quickly changed my mind. I thought they did an excellant job introducing these new characters. I actually learned a bit more last night and we did get some questions answered. I loved it and really was glad to see them introduce these characters this way.Ana's redemtion is clear. However, she is going to have to face quite a bit going up against Sayid, Jack and Kate. There is no doubt in my mind that Ana is military. Skeeter is so correct in her statements of what the tallies had to go through compared to what the front enders had to endure.

Could the sheer number of Losties have made them a tougher target for the Others? Could the monster/security system that roams their end of the island be what is keeping the Others at bay? We didn't see anything similar on the Tailie end. i was thinking the same things--it could have a lot to do with where the others live--Goodwin got to the crash site really fast. i think the monster could have kept them away--or maybe its something we haven't seen yet. he seemed surprised to see the hatch/bunker so maybe the others live near or in another bunker and they don't know there are other bunkers--or maybe that's what the monster was for--keeping the different projects/groups separated. oh, sorry way off topic... actually, it's a PhoenixMons

I loved it too. It's good to see a different sort of episode every once in a while, i.e. no flashbacks and quick paced day by day structure. The one thing that has really bothered me is losing Cindy, the stewardess. It seems so unnecessary and strikes me as a move to keep the number of regular characters down. I would have really liked the idea of someone who was sort of in charge on the plane to be part of the Survivors instead of just passengers. I hope Cindy isn't gone for good. I watched it a second time (the first time was often interrupted by running children. Argh.) and I noticed the exact moment Ana Lucia figured out that Goodwin was an Other. They arrived at the water again and she looks at it, realizes something, and looks at Goodwin. Good stuff. I also think the Peace Corps thing he said was true because it fits with the whole Others stealing "good" people to make a utopian society theory. Someone who was in the Peace Corps might be more likely to buy into that.

My thoughts?1.) As much as I loved this episode, I didn't have any "OHHHH!!! So THAT'S why...?" moments. Like one poster said, (was it TJ?), it wasn't anything that couldn't be figured out in a 5-minute re-cap. 2.) I don't feel any renewed understanding or justification for AL's attitude. SHE feels lost and betrayed? Hell! Who DOESN'T?!! (Is it just me, or didn't she pretty much have an attitude from the day she met Jack in the airport lounge?) ALTHOUGH, I do get why she was so "quick-on-the-draw" when Shannon came charging out of the jungle! 3.) And to continue that line of thought, judging by next week's preview, AL doesn't seem to be any closer to redemption by challenging Jack and whuppin' on Sayid. Don't get me wrong - I loved this episode! I just don't think it offered as many revelations/justifications/clarifications that we die-hards were eagerly anticipating. That being said? I can't WAIT for next Wednesday! I ADORE this show!!!!

Still think that Nathan is fishy. Sorry, but Ethan from Canada and Nathan from Canada....I'll be annoyed with Lindhof et al if that is just a device for the audience to promote suspicion.AL had a wedding band on. Wasn't she hitting on Jack at the airport lounge? Nathan: Means "giver" in Hebrew. In the Old Testament this is the name of a prophet and also a son of King David. Goodwin: From a surname which was derived from the first name GODWIN. Godwin means "friend of god", derived from Old English god combined with wine "friend". Mr. Ecko - did anyone get a 40 days and 40 nights Lenten vibe from him? Penance for killing?

The first time they showed Nathan, I actually thought it was Ethan. It had been a while since I'd seen him and couldn't remember exactly what he looked like, but they look quite a bit alike. I still am not convinced that he was totally on the up and up. He looked pretty creepy in the pit. Maybe Goodwin killed him because he was afraid he would blow their cover if AL started chopping off body parts? If the Other took the strong ones the first night, why didn't they take Nathan, too?

58. "RE: Whole bunch of thoughts" |
Well, when Goodwin and Ana were talking to each other up on the hill and she "unmasked" him, so to speak, he said "Once you cut off one of his fingers and he still said he was on the plane, you would've begun to think that maybe you had the wrong guy." I didn't quite get his implication the first time I heard him say it, but the more I thought about it, I got it: Goodwin was obviously the actual infiltrator, and he knows that Nathan is not. If Ana had cut off Nathan's finger, Nathan still would've said he was on the plane, because he was. Ana then would've thought "if he's that intent on saying he was on the plane, maybe he really was". She then would've looked at everybody else in the group and began suspecting other people, which is what Goodwin didn't want. Of course, little did he know that she'd end up outsmarting him anyway. Actually, there were quite a few things I didn't understand in their conversation the first time, but I got it upon watching it again. Like how she said "did Bernard see you out there? Is that why you pretended to be one of us?" I didn't get it, but then I realized she meant that Bernard landed in the jungle and saw Goodwin already in there, so he was forced to bluff.
Anyway...that's all.
