FOWMike 4 desperate attention whore postings DAW Level: "American Cancer Society Spokesperson" 01-10-05, 11:50 AM (EST) "JAN 17 EPISODE .. Howard / Hammond" I am very excited about the upcoming two part episode of Howard and Hammond. The Howard family features my Nieces and Nephews, sister and brother in law. And I don't know if he is any episodes, but the next international television superstar, MOGLEY the black cat. Everyone be sure to tune in only one week from tonight and watch. I am soooooo excitied, I have been anticipating this episode for weeks now. I have to watch it like everyone else. I don't know anything. Howard / Hammond" well i don't live near them, i am in fla and they are in chatanooga, tennessee. they are pretty down to earth people and they really aren't allowed to talk about the show because it has yet to air, but just that they missed being apart from each other. they are normally very close and loving. very trusting of each other. Angie Howard is the mom (sister) who switched with the other mom. Angie's husband is Bob Howard (my brother in law) my niece living in the house is Candy, my nephew is Kyle. Brandy is another niece who does not live in the house. she is 19 now and married to a great guy named Adam who is a US Marine, Adam is not in the show as he is in Iraq. Candy is 16 and Kyle is 6. Howard / Hammond" well I'd rather not say what the oppoite of my family would be because I dont know the other family/people and all I know is that as far as my family goes .... Angie: I have never known a woman more loving of her children (my own mother included) Bob: I have never known a man more hard working and dedicated to the welfare of his family (me included) Brandy: My eldest niece (does not live in the house)is quite possibly the most trustworthy person I know. She has high goals and aspirations. Candy: Youngest niece, is super smart and really has her stuff together for someone who is 16. She is headed in the right direction. Kyle: the youngest kid and my nephew, this kid is only 6 but you forget that when you play video games or have a conversation with him. He has this ability to adjust to people and compete on their level, socially, while retaining the innocence of being only 6 years old. Mogley: He's just a black cat who chases birds and field mice for real. Very friendly boy cat. Candy truly is one of the strongest people I know. She gets that from her mother, Angie, and her older sister, Brandy. Brandy was in the beginning of the show sitting outside at the table but she does not live at the house anymore. She recently got married to her school sweetheart, Adam. They got married right before Adam was shipped off to Iraq. He is a United States Marine. I didn't like the end of the episode where Hammond was blabbing out against the war talking about Adam. Adam is a great guy, and I'm proud he married my niece. I know a lot of people have a lot of different opinions about the war and people like Adam who are there fighting the war, but my opinion is simply the same of a family like Angie's has for each other. My love for them is the same as that of my country. UNCONDITIONAL. I am not saying I agree with the war and I am not saying that I do not. What I am saying is that I stand by my country and my President no matter what. The key word here is UNITED. While I am not surprised about the support for Angie and family, despite everything, Angie may disagree with some of Mia's methods, but she would never say hurtful things about someone or be rude towards them. Mia is down right rude and no matter how much she cleans up, she will still be the same person on the inside. You see, I think people would eat hamburger served on a napkin everytime over crap served on a silver platter. I remember when the eye happened with Candy, when she was 5. I was only 19 years old at the time. Candy handled it better at 5 years old, than any of us adults and young adults were able to handle it. I have told my nieces and nephew this a dozen times and I'll say it now publicly. I have no children of my own, but if I did, I would want them to be just like Brandy, Candy, and Kyle. I love them more than anything in this world. The are my family and my best friends. Angie and Bob are the greatest. And I wouldn't say such responses were racist, but the situation and our responses are racially interesting. Until a few years ago, African-Americans were never used in any commercials to do with soap or housecleaning because racist America thought that African-Americans were unclean. Ironically, African-Americans tend to have much higher standards of cleaning (MN Mom is more the rule than the exception) than many white families (as all the posters underscore). So whites are dirtier than blacks, but they have more fun, right? Consider how uncomfortable you are if you have to sleep and eat in a place that you consider unclean. Are you jolly about it? The woman has OCD, that much is clear and it has nothing to do with race/economic background etc. It was painfully obvious watching her behavior and her fears that she has a disease that has never been diagnosed or treated. Her irrational fear of Tennessee is however rooted in racism and ignorance which is what primarily racism is. I also suspect she has a social anxiety disorder which is often an offshoot of having OCD as people with this disease have poor social skills and the ability to adapt to strange situations - due to the bizzare nature of thier disease. Again, no race relations are involved here. I also suspect her early pregnancy may have something to do with her control issues and fears but that may be totally unrealted to the more obvious problems she has. I am very suprised someone with all of these problems would be willing to go on this show and frankly I doubt we will see any satisfactory ending to this story. These two statements contradict each other. I think it's interesting, however, the way they capture the feelings the show intentionally incited. It kept invoking and suppressing race. As for Mia, I believe she was biracial (features, hair, skin color)though she could pass for white (if they weren't so dang dirty maybe she'd consider it). The dramatic tension of this episode was pretty interesting in its black northerners meet (and are revolted by) white southerners; or, clean freaks meet not-so-clean freaks...and come on, the little snowcones of fresh dog sh*t, the ants crawling in the bathroom like extras from Un Chien Andalou, and the flies? help me, help me: whose bed would you rather crawl in that night? Now, as for the hillbilly stuff: yes, that was ignorant and prejudiced. No doubt the Tennessee family had more heart, more love, and more fun: as well as more sh*t & flies. I did not think Mia Hammond's problem with cleanliness had anything to do with race, she has OCD. That was what I was addressing when you discussed the issue about her cleanliness habits. As for her issues with Tennessee I would agree they must be racial in nature as she is married to a black man , that much is clear, and that must be why her views about the south that skew towards the negative and stereotypical. Mia Hammonds problems are serious mental disorders and not soley the result of racism or ignorance. However her attitude towards the south may be or may be just simple ignorance and natural old fashioned generalization. Many white people have similiar views about the south and southerners that are not race based. But with Mia I assumed her fears are because of her husband but not necessarily her own. Until she articulates why she feels the way she does about the South I will assume its related to her husband. As for her ethnic identity it is unknown and also may well be the reason for her fear. But as to her cleanliness race has nothing to do with it. I hope that clears up what obviously confused you. As for any further attempt at juxtaposing the families, frankly its not the least engaging. This is another attempt by Fox to take something and someone and turn them into fodder for the mill. Mia Hammond is seriously mentally ill and I have a hard time bashing anyone engaged in this series. So, one culture's standards of hygiene translate into another culture's notion of filth or "mental illness" (beauty or insanity are also culturally determined). Notice how you've decided, based upon your notion of what constitutes cleanliness, coupled with motion sickness, that Hammonds is insane rather than simply cleaner than you and suffering of course from motion sickness. So, what's the definition of sanity? poop on the floor, flies in the kitchen, ants in the bathroom, and riding on a carousel without wanting to vomit? Look, I think the southern white folks were good-hearted people, friendly, kind, with a real sense of humor. But their housekeeping standards were a bit shaky, wouldn't you say?
