Vols..Was that TOO funny or what!!I happen to know the family from CT and they were exactly as shown on the show! What you saw, was what it is....Personally, not exactly my kind of lifestyle! Either of them! There were 2 things in the show that stood out most for me. The first was when they showed the PA family home on the hill with "Psycho" music playing in the background. I nearly fell off my chair! The second was when they were talking to the oldest boy from the PA family and he said "right now I'm not missing my mom much...." Sweetie..I understand WHY! I hope things changed for you since the show! From what I understand, this show will be aired again sometime in late October, so if anyone missed it, they can catch it again. It is definately worth coming back for!

Ok... I'm not sure what episode I watched last night, all I know is the family with all the animals needs to be turned into child services for letting those children live in that disgusting house. How could anyone live like that and think it's okay? That family NEEDED to be insulted! I'm not a neat freak by any means, but to walk around the house, stepping over dog crap and cat urine... how appauling!

Yes, it was a kangaroo, on top of all the other types of animals in that house. I have no idea how you can acquire a kangaroo or a ferret or any of those other types of animals. LOL Don't get me wrong, I'm not an animal hater but at some point you have to draw a line - that or get a bigger house. There didn't seem to be any discipline at all, I mean, if you never train an animal to go outside, how will it learn? I guess it's just not for me, I couldn't stand it. I was getting sick to my stomach watching it. And I don't think the other family had it any better either. I mean, sweeping the road for goodness sake. I'm all for a cleaner environment, but seriously? LOL

Does anyone know if they get paid to do this show? At least on Trading Spouses, they get $50,000. Basically the same kind of show.

I thought the show was hilarious, Vols!Messy Mom seems like a nice person, but clueless. Having all the pets running loose & (evidently) defecating indoors regularly is just plain stupid. I can't imagine her youngest as a baby, crawling around on that floor and putting things in her mouth! Anal Mom was over the top too, cleaning her family into emotional sterility. But she did get a clue from her experience. She even enjoys the new cat! Her whole family benefitted from her experience. I'm sure her house is still scrupiously clean but no longer just a shrine to cleanliness. My DH kept waiting for the part where the husbands got to sleep with their new wives... I loved the show last night! What an interesting example of extremes. One mom a total clean freak with lists and schedules out the wazoo.......the other a slob with almost too many animals to count! Too funny!Gosh, I have three animals.....two dogs and a cat.....and I feel like my house is constantly having dirt dragged in the house by one of them (we have a dog door) but after last night's show I now feel my house is a lovely example of neatness and order (of course nothing on the same scale as "perfect" woman's house) How sad for the kids who lived in the totally spot-free, noise free house. I would be so sad and lonely if I was them. Never allowed to make any noise, create any clutter or have any friends over. ABC did an excellent job of showing two families on completely different wave lengths. They were both definitely at two ends of the spectrum, to say the least. It made for an interesting show. Also, does anyone know if Trading Spouses was stolen from ABC's idea (Wife Swap) and if so, how does Fox get away with stealing ideas from other channels. (such as the Contender or what ever boxing show they ripped off from Mark Burnett)? Thanks!

Could these 2 have been further apart in their homemaking/ parenting styles? ABC did an excellent job of showing two families on completely different wave lengths. They were both definitely at two ends of the spectrum, to say the least. Wonder if this will be the theme, two ends of the spectrum? How will they top it in the next episode? It will be interesting to see.

>When lazy mom came out and >told the anal mom that >she HATED her...I was like...no, >you just don't like someone >doing a better job than >you! Those children (the messy >mom) really did need structure >and more support of a >parent...not a friend! I thought >I would lose it when >the older boy told his >dad the he didn't confer >with him on the decision...WTF? >The dad should be making >the decisions! OMG Vols you hit it right on the head!!!! My Husband called it "Camp Run-A-Muck".
Older son needed to be put in his place. Kudos to dad for stepping us as he did and letting #1 son know he was wrong. Someonw I don't think it happens often!
What I am dying to know is how badly fireman dad was tormented by his co-workers when he went back to work! Can you imagine the ridicule! Not only the mess, but he came across as being a little whipped too!
I would also expect the same for anal dad. My guess with him is that he is the same way at work as he is at home. Perhaps the torment was not as bad for him because they knew what to expect. Oh well...it all comes with being a DAW!

I thought it was cruel for anal mom to take the majority of the pets out of their environment without asking permissive dad first. She also took out furniture without asking. She way overstepped her bounds. All that drama and no $50,000. They were polar opposites. The animal farm zoo house was about enough to send anal mom right over the edge.

I wasn't going to get suckered into another show, but alas, what is done is done...I think it's interesting that so many people are saying that 'at least the clean/tidy/anal mom learned something,' but I don't think it's a very fair statement. First, Bambi (the dirty mom) was certainly the misguided, lax, and criminally dirty mom, to be sure, but she certainly had other strengths as a mother. I credit HER with introducing positive change into Caprice's home (the clean, cold mother). She didn't fill their house with cute pets and dirt, she didn't force the family to engage in alien activities, and she didn't stop caring for the home or meeting the everyday needs of her host family. The difference between the two mothers, I think, lies in the 'lessons' they passed onto the families they stayed with, and Bambi was far superior to Caprice in that manner. Bambi got the father doing something that he already loved, she got the children a cat that was older (and clearly was already trained for a litter box). She opted for plants and color as a way to infuse life into their home without resorting to filling it with all sorts of exotic animals. She found and implemented changes that would be positive, productive, and a generally good fit for her host family. The changes she made meshed so well with the personalities living in that house that they were able to relate to them, able to maintain them, and able to feel good about them. Caprice, on the other hand, only offered the father a way to be a bit more of a disciplinarian, but really nothing more, and not really an effective way for him to be even a little bit of a disciplinarian. More effective, I think, would have been to have found solutions that really fit her host family, rather than the method she chose: turning them into clones of her family. She could have encouraged the children and husband to work on a home-made (or even a contracted-out) small kennel out back. She could have installed a doggy door, or hired a pet trainer to educate the family on how to teach their pets the right way to relieve themselves inside the home. Caprice also might have considered that spending her week cleaning her hosts' home was not going to be effective. She should have been holding the boys accountable for household chores, teaching them, driving responsibility into their heads. As it is, she cleaned their home, but gave them no ability to maintain it in her absence. And taking things (and pets) out of a home isn't a solution for a family like Bambi's. Getting all the pets and things to work together in bliss (and cleanliness) is the real challenge and the real 'ideal.' She made no efforts to that end at all. The dining table was a very important addition, though, as was at least showing the husband how clean the place could be. (Perhaps he will motivate his wife to maintain that standard, but somehow, I think the lesson was lost on them since they - the husband and children - were not a part of the initial clean-up.) Anyway, I was generally impressed with Bambi's ability to adjust her style to meet the needs of her host family and Caprice's bending to allow for more 'life' in her life.
I do have to say that I appreciate my childhood home and my upbringing so much more after watching this episode.

"It looks like the family is trying to do damage control but they all need to get their story straight!"And it looks like Bambi is as casual with her truths as she is with her housekeeping. For what it's worth, I thought she said 25 "pets". When they showed her house, they also showed a hermit crab (I think), birds and some other small critters that would live in cages rather than roam free. This would not have the impact on a household that, say, 25 dogs and/or cats would. I remember 3 dogs, two of them large? And 3 cats, and the Wallaby. Which is still a lot, and would really add to her cleaning chores. This I know. The most pets my household has ever had at the same time, when my kids were small: 2 dogs, large ones 3 cats, indoor/outdoor types 2 cockatiels, caged 3 gerbils, caged 1 rabbit, caged-outside only 2 anoles (2=3" lizards), caged 2 turtles, caged 1 hermit crab, caged This is 16 "animals" altho only 5 were housepets. The dogs were not allowed upstairs and were properly house-trained. The cats used a litter box, cleaned frequently, and also "went" outside a lot. Did my house smell? It smelled of dog, I'm pretty sure, and occasionally eau de litter box. But never feces or urine just laying around! When you have pets you have to accept that it is your responsibility to keep the house clean, and that your work load is increased. Bambi screwed up. When you gotta clean, you gotta clean. 46. "RE: Wife Swap Episode 2" |
I saw both episodes of wifeswap and I have to say, this is now one of my favorite reality shows!Anyway, I signed on to this site just so I can vent about some characters on the show: 1. BLONDE ANIMAL LADY from Episode 1 Blonde Animal Lady from Episode 1 sucks! She angrily and irrationally told Neatfreak Mom that she hated her for doing exactly what she was supposed to do on the show- impose her "mom ways in the second week!" Animal lady clearly had more animals than she could take care of in the house (there was doodoo on the floor! yuck!) and Neatfreak Mom was well within her limits in leaving only 3 pets. Blonde Animal Lady has a filthy home and makes the excuse that life isn't about cleaning but having fun- as if the two things are mutually exclusive. The fact is, she is just lazy. Lucky for her, her husband doesn't mind a disgustingly dirty house and a lazy wife. (I can only imagine how putrid the house must smell, and I feel sorry for any stayover guest at their home, especially Neatfreak Mom who must have been ultrasensitive given her tendencies!) Although Blonde Animal Lady really irks me, I have to say that I really appreciated how she got Neatfreak dad to share his instrument-playing and effectively encouraged the Neat household to loosen up a little. Ultimately though, I don't think it was very nice of her to blow up at Neatfreak Mom the way she did in the end. (I think that reaction may have been the result of her defensiveness to Neatfreak Mom's appropriate criticism of the filth of the house, but that does not justify it.) 2. RICH MANHATTAN HUSBAND in Episode 2 This guy sucks even more than Blonde Animal Lady! Gosh what a PRICK this guy is! He is the typical, self-centered NY arsewhole who thinks that a person's value is defined by his bank account and background. I am disgusted at how he callously and constantly insulted Hardworker lady- clearly he believes that she is beneath him. I hope this guy realizes what a creep he is, now that he can see himself through another lens, but since he is an arsewhole of a PRICK, I bet he would just blame it all on editing. This guy SUCKS! It scares me to think that guys like him bring kids into the world. Thank goodness for the nannies- they must be god's way of improving the situation- this way, the kids have a decent shot at becoming decent human beings.

It's just neater that way and comments are easier to find. I may have had too many animals at one time in my life, but I am still a neat & orderly person, lol! That said, I have decided to watch this instead of CSI:NY which will be in reruns eventually if it's any good. So NY dad really irked me. He made a deal with the producer's when he agreed to do the show, but I think he really just wanted changes for his wife. It never occured to him that he might have imperfections which could be noted by and improved by an interaction with a "lower class" person. And he was deliberately insulting however benignly he tried to characterize it. And I give NY mom credit. She crashed & burned, she figured out work is hard, but she stayed emotionally involved and created an overall positive experience for herself. I like that she was consciously trying to improve the lot for NJ mom when she returned. NJ mom, while treated badly, could not assert her influence in any way. She should not have dismissed all the staff because that idea would never fly in the NY situation. Better if she had looked for ways to insert the parents back into their kids lives with nanny support, rather than deligating virtually all parenting to the nannies. That would have been a useful contribution. Instead, like neat mom from last week, she just tried to recreate the family situation she was used to.

I don't know why people like the Manhattan couple even have kids if they're just going to hire someone else to be the parents. Jodi doesn't work, so there is no excuse to not be there for her kids. She is just lazy and selfish. I don't think she needs "me time" ALL the time. Going out for dinner 6 nights a week without your kids is just pathetic. What a pompous @ss Steven is! That was awful when he called the NJ wife to say he was working late and wouldn't be home for dinner, and then we see him down at the gym making fun of her and saying it's not necessary for him to rush home. Yeah, how about your children who are waiting to have dinner with you?! Shmuck. I'm glad Steven and Jodi at least got a clue by the end of the episode and started spending time with their kids. I hope it lasts. I wonder if they rehired the nannies, or if they are finally playing their roles as parents.

NY dad was the worst. He lied so he didn't have to spend time with his children. And why did they bother having children if they did not want to spend time with them? I thought everyone got something out of this swap except the NY dad. And I cringe even calling him a dad.

If she's not for real we need to find out who made her and put a stop to that! Har!Among the NUMEROUS things that bothered me about this episode (the only one I have seen btw) is the flag controversey. SC mom was ragging on dred-dad about how he needs to show some support for the USA and blah blah blah he needs an American flag. While the flag outside her own house, while not a symbol for slavery as so many people seem to think, IS a symbol for the division of the United States. Where's HER American flag? Blonde-Hippie-wife's comment as she drove up to the house also bothered me, though. While I wouldn't fly a confederate flag myself, because of it's connotations, I don't know when it became a symbol for mass murder, as she so dramatically put it. Statements like that are just plain emotional and ignorant. Finally, Dred-Dad's comments that flying the US flag goes against everything he believes in, and his attitude while putting it up, illustrates a great deal of what is wrong with a certain sector of the American public. the flag does not represent the wars we fight, the political struggles, the many negative aspects of the nation. It represents our intent, as a nation, what our forefathers fought for, liberty and equality. Freedom. It represents the ideals that the nation is built on. A nation goes through ups and downs, to reject the flag itself is to reject the ideals. Tacky, is it? Then why do you live here? If it is a dreadful country, why not leave it? NOBODY will stop you! people who rant against America because they want to make it better are one thing. People who reject the flag... simply dislike the country.
