Your last words were this: "If you earn it, you can spend it." The first family you mention, the family who have clothes left near their van after church-- how can they spend money on clothes, etc., that they don't have? They can't! Are the children supposed to go without? By taking other people's hand-me-downs, they are cutting down on waste in the world in my view. Someone has extra clothes to share, and they need them- what is so wrong with that? You say the Hardin mother "probably" can't do post Algebraic math, but how would you know? That is such a judgmental statement. To be homeschooled, children have to pass yearly tests that are sent by the state they live in. I think that these children would benefit from being socialized; but I wouldn't slander the parents because I feel that way like you do.

>Did anyone catch the show? I >was shocked that people like >the Hardins are allowed to >home school their children. They >are doing them a great >disservice in not letting them >go to public schools. I >Also doubt that Hardin mother >had any post high school >education and question her ability >to home school children when >she probably cant do post >Algebraic math herself. Those kids >will have very little social >mobility with the way they >are being raised. People talk >about kids "falling through the >cracks" and you tend to >think that happens in urban >areas but it seems to >happen in rural areas just >as much and the Hardins >are an example of this. > > >I also cant believe that they >live off of the compassion >of others. That people would >leave clothes next to their >vehicle on Sundays after church >is no "act of God" >people just feel sorry for >the kids. > >As for the other mother, she >just seemed to take her >family for granted but thankfully >she realized this. And as >for the shopping, If you >earn it you can spend >it. As long as the children are getting the proper education she can continue teaching them at home. Home schooled children are closely monitored by the states in which they reside, to make sure that they are meeting the required learning levels. Since she has older children which seem in high school age, I would assume she knows what she is doing. As far are the interaction with other children go, I couldn't be more on page with you. children need to develop life skills. Perhaps you shouldn't throw them to the wolves, but she should of been more conscience to have her children interact with society more, since they will have to , at some point in their lives. That's the best thing about these show's, you can only hope they learn little things from them.
