"Finally a new show"
And what an awesome show it was too. Hilibilly Jim or whatever they want to call him may have been a bit off with the monetary amounts but his heart was defnitely in the right place.

The Levine family is barely a family...this is the second time I've seen the kids of a family bond more in a week with a surrogate parent than with their actual parents who are there 24/7 or at least should be there 24/7. It's just a sad state of affairs but at the same time nice to see so that some families may do a mental check of where they are in relation to what they see on tv.

just my opinion

I agree with you. I have to admit, I was embarrassed for Jim/Jay? since I'm from the same region of the South and was hoping that viewers could see his "heart" and not only focus on his heavy accent and his limited vocabulary. The precious New York young man was so gracious and endearing to him as was the little girl, I was reminded of "To Kill a Mocking Bird" I know they will never forget him. Now,since I can speak the heavy accent, I wish that New York attorney had "whooped" the daylights out of those little boys !!! The pathetic Mother would have liked it also. I was angry with her lack of emotions toward her husband, she didn't say goodbye or hello. Believe me, please,90% of Southerners are NOT like that, okay, 75%!

I am relatively new to the boards...so a quick hello to everyone.

I really enjoyed the male Trading Spouses back-to-back episodes. I sympathized with the man from Georgia and felt his awe of "big city life". I hope he went home with a deeper appreciation of the Jewish faith.

The New York gentleman was actually more gracious and patient than I would have imagined. Surprised he didn't get on the mom more about that one overly bratty kid.

I laughed and fretted my way through this week's show and hope the family from Georgia is selected to appear in the other New Fox show about getting a makeover that includes a new home. After all, the Biggins family is going to have it done. Why not that family?

As far as reality shows go, I think this one is a bit more entertaining that the usual fare I've been seeing.

3. "RE: Finally a new show"
Hi another newbie here!

I really enjoyed this episode. I thought Jay was the sweetest guy and it was so touching how much he and Pierce bonded. Pierce is a great kid and really needs his dad around more and hopefully he will find the time to spend with his son. I can't fault Jay for not making correct decisions with the money. The wife was too busy showing off to convey the fact that they needed the money to pay for Pierce's bar mitzvah. Despite her wealth and a great family it seemed like the NY wife had a perpetual scowl on her face. She never seemed happy. She put down the famous and elegant restaurant in NY. She mentioned how much her beach house cost and thought $200 for a dishwasher was nothing. How was Jay suppose to realize that they needed money to pay bills when she never mentioned any bills to pay? She was too busy flaunting her wealth. So Jay did what was in his heart. He felt the family needed to slow down. Spend time together. He probably picked up how much Pierce and Molly needed nurturing so that's what he spent the money on. Time to share as a family.

I thought the NY dad was great! He had so much more patience than I ever could with those kids. He went from a fabulous apartment in NY with all the amenities to an air mattress, no air conditioning, flies galore and a meat-stealing cat. With nary a complaint.

Last but not least, what the heck was wrong with Jay's wife?! She does not appreciate him. I felt so bad when he was ready to leave for NY and he was waiting for a hug good-bye and his wife couldn't even get off the rocking chair. Then she did the same thing when he got home after 7 days of absence. Not one hug. Not one kiss. Her and her son sat on that couch like nothing special happened. I found that so very odd.

Sandwench....I thought the same thing about Jay's wife. That had to hurt Jay that no one showed any emotion when he returned home. He is such a sensitive man. What a shame.

I didn't get to see the second hour yet, so I don't know how Jay's wife reacted when he got home, but I thought she was horrible when he was leaving. He seems like a really sweet guy with a great heart and a couple of times I actually had a tear in my eye like when they were taking him to Tavern on the Green and he was talking about how he didn't want people to think he was stupid because he was "country".

One thing I really like about this show is you get to see that some times the happier people are the ones that have "less" financially etc. It really shows the contrast between the two "groups" of people and how your not better because your in one group or the other.

I thought Jay was the sweetest man. He wife is a #####. I felt really sorry for him when they didn't tell him bye or hello. He should dump the broad and look for someone else. I have to say I expected the guy from NY to clobber those brats. I have to give him a high five for his good sportsmanship. The Levine kids were also great. This was a pretty good show.

Oh !! Dalifriend, wouldn't that be wonderful if "Extreme Makeover" gave them a new home! What a great thought!!! Good job! Now, does anyone know how they would be considered and can share with me? I'd be happy to do whatever work is needed to get this done.
I agree with you on the program as I haven't watched either until last night, I really enjoyed it but then I and my husband are "reality" program addicts. I enjoy "people watching" and my favorites are "Survivor" and "Amazing Race", what about you?

7. "RE: Finally a new show"
Jenlee--I wanted to slap Jay's wife! He is such a sweet man and she is one of the rudest people I've ever seen. You can be poor and still have manners--never once did she thank Mr. Levine for trying to give her a special meal! After watching the show, I realize why she's a little "bottom heavy"--she rarely got off it! I can't comprehend why she couldn't work up enough energy to GET UP OFF THE COUCH and at least tell him hello when he returned. She is as pathetically spoiled and self-centered as Mrs. Levine (whom I also wanted to slap!) I couldn't stand the way she spoke to her son and how cruel she really was--well, at least her kids had one week of an adult paying positive attention to them and showing kindness. I'm new to "reality shows", but the awfulness of these two moms really blew me away!

OTR- my sentiments exactly, girl !!!! I appreciated the way the attorney was kind to them(he had the right to "go off" many, many times) but your right, not even a "thank you".She was beyond gross and it was clear to see why that brat acted the way he did. I loved the way he just got up off that God awful unmade bed and got the h--- out of there without a goodbye himself!!!
I have a feeling that once that sweet New York young man gets out of his house, he will never go home again!!! His Mother is going to drive him crazy if she isn't careful with her never ending, critical, watch watching hateful comments. So much pressure on that sweet little guy, God bless him. Right now he shows more maturity and tolerance than she will ever know, if she would shut up she might could learn some things from her son. Thanks for replying and good to talk with you.

11. "RE: second hour? :("
Legalcat, I'm not sure exactly what happened on hour two but it ended with the attorney putting the money towards education for the boys for one year, adding a room to the house along with the obvious and necessary remodeling. At 53 yrs. old, I can't remember past that for them. Jay put their money towards cooking classes for the husband and wife, a therapist of sorts to make visits and help them bond as a family and (per the wifes complaint) painting and finishing the beach house.
Of course both, wifes gripped about the decisions with the New Yorker wanting "liposuction or paying for his bar mitzvah" as a previous message stated so perfectly, "Jay had no idea what they wanted to do with the money since she didn't make any debts known, and she was too busy flaunting her money". The lazy, emotionless, staring Southern woman said "Why didn't he jest tar it down". Sorry to be so mean but I didn't like her at all in the way she did her kind and compassionate husband, Jay. She didn't so much as move, smile, say a word (except) when he left, "I dont keer if you go, you cin stay gone" or something to that effect.

A big hearty welcome to all you newcomers to the website. The shows were great. It seems like, in these shows, that the men are more flexible than the women. I like how they show positive and negative aspects about both families. Trading Spouses is usually repeated, so check your local listings or TVGuide.com for the repeat.

I enjoyed the father swap. At first I thought the lawyer was a jerk. But he turned out not to be a bad guy. I think he was staying away from his home so much because he was avoiding his wife. But the poor city kids were starved for attention from an adult. And the country family needs to discipline their children. And why didn't the wife greet her husband when he came home? This show really shows us the inside of a family. In some ways the wives looked worse than the husbands. Why didn't the country wife have the bedding cleaned for the guest? That was disgusting.

16. "Welcome newbies"
I must say it's great to see that this show and my post has brought some great new folks into our fold here. It's all about having fun, discussing issues and bashing the occasional DAW that's really begging for it.

I'm from the south born and raised so I can see where people are coming from on both sides of the fence.

This is definitely one of the premier Reality Shows out there now in my opinion. Not enough time to script or push people one way or the other like a lot of the other shows and brings out the natural conflict that we all go thru on a daily basis which is something we can all relate to.

Bravo Fox (mark this date cause you wont hear me say that too often)
