"'God Warrior' probably mentally ill...BPD?" |
I know a lot of people have commented on the so-called God Warrior from Trading Spouses as being "absolutely friggen crazy," but has there been any discussion about her indeed possibly being mentally ill? The first thing that came to my mind when I saw her was that she reminded me a heck of a lot of a woman I know who suffers from Borderline Personality Disorder. I would go so far as to say that the woman I know is probably slightly worse, but their symptoms look awfully similar.A quote from a book about it (found at bpdcentral.com, a good source of information about people with Borderline Personality Disorder) says this: "The world of a BP, like that of a child, is split into heroes and villains. A child emotionally, the BP cannot tolerate human inconsistencies and ambiguities; he cannot reconcile <...> good and bad qualities into a constant coherent understanding of another person. At any particular moment, one is either Good or EVIL. There is no in-between; no gray area....people are idolized one day; totally devalued and dismissed the next." Borderline Personality is a bit more complicated than just this paragraph (throw in violence, an unstable self image, fear of abandonment, frequent displays of uncontrollable anger, panic disorders, and paranoia all into the mix), but it's summed up pretty well. Sometimes Borderlines will incorporate religion into their disorder and use it as an excuse to declare people they can't otherwise label as "just plain evil." The woman I know who suffers from it used to attack anyone who wasn't a Christian as an evil heathen, with panic attacks that looked very similar to the "God Warrior's." That is, she used to before she came to the conclusion that all Christians were porn scum, cut off contact from everyone she knew ... and last I heard she was looking into Buddhism. I'm just wondering if anyone else saw the similarities between her and people with BPD. Although I didn't see the entire episode, the bits I did see really screamed mental illness to me. It's almost sad that she was chosen to be on a reality TV show, if that is indeed the case. Disorders should be treated seriously, and not exploited on national television so the whole world can laugh at you. Not that the producers of the show necessarily knew what they were getting into when they picked her family...
