In the UK we have had 145 hamsters in the Big Brother house.

Only one of them has ever maintained celebrity.

Jade Goody was renowned for not knowing anything about ... well anything really, but for some reason her naivety appealed.

She was also put into Celebrity Big Brother, where she (and a couple of never really were "celebrities") bullied another one of the housemates, a Bollywood star called Shilpa Shetty.

There were big discussions on racism, to me it seemed more likely that Shilpa was well spoken and polite, and the two had nothing in common.

As a part of her rehabilitation Jade was a housemate in Big Brother (Big Boss) in India. Whilst she was there (August 2008) she had the results of a smear test, which showed that she had cervical cancer.

She returned to the UK and was told that the cancer was terminal in February 2009. She married on the 22nd of February, and died on the 22nd of March.

Her dying was done in the height of publicity, so she could leave as much money to her children as possible.

So farewell to Jade, famous for being stupid, who turned out to be the canniest one around.

And in her memory, have a smear test, the sooner you know you have a problem, the better chance you have.
