"Kelly Clarkson--Grammy snub"
How weird was it that Kelly didn't acknowledge or thank American Idol in her Grammy speeches? Without AI, she would have been home still trying to become a singer. Regardless of what disagreements they may have had, she should still remember her humble beginnings and that the fans of AI put her on that stage to win that Grammy. How soon we forget.

I don't think she's forgotten. She did thank her fans - she just didn't credit them to AI. No matter how she came to be in the public eye and have this career, she is the one that put herself on the Grammy stage with her talent. I don't think she has to forever feel beholden to AI. Her accomplishments speak for the show without her ever having to say anything else about it.

Amen, Bookwoman.

A thought:

Frank Sinatra's career was jump-started by winning a talent competition (don't ask me what it was, I have no idea).

Should he have spent the next - what, 50 years? - of his career thanking the people that set up the contest?

Yes, AI (and Sinatra's contest) provide an opportunity for a singer to be seen...but the singer is still the one that has to be talented, appealling to the audience, and work their butt off.

Winning AI (or any competition) is not a guarantee of a career (see: Adrianne Curry). No one can or will HAND anyone a career. It's up to the winner to use their win as a tool to get their career started

She did thank the fans, AI fans and all others. I did not become a fan of Kelly, or fellow budding AI superstar Carrie Underwood, just from watching AI. They both have reached out to their fans and put out outstanding quality albums that appeal to mainstream music aficionados.

Even Paula Abdul gave Kelly a huge hug and Kelly looked extremely happy to see her. I didn't see any indication of a snub.

This thread was started in the right place. But since I've just moved an earlier discussion over from the General Discussion forum, I'll lock this one and encourage folks to join in the other discussion.

But thanks for starting the thread in the right forum.
