I have to agree with you there. I have only seen him in one commercial. "Water Cress sandwich guy" (get blown away by a blow dryer) Randi thinks she is a treasure and a beauty. Steve is very funny, I love his comedy. He is the only reason I am watching the show. It seems her entire family needs a "reality" check!

lol..lol..I think Esbea is onto something! what do you think of the mom?? I think that's where the whole "therapy" thing started for me. Did you see where she announces, right into the camera: "Well, we're going up there, and if he isn't for her, I'm taking her and we're coming home." Not TOO controlling. And remember what lil Randi whined? "My family never touched much", as she physically and visually "winces" every single time Steve "touches" her. Really? "Thanks, Mom, now I can spend my whole life not wanting to be touched, and thinking everyone wants to." hmmm. Esbea, you should do a book! Hey, if "The Psychology of the Sopranos" can sell several million copies, think where this could go. It's all here: family dynamics/ social interaction/ romantic convention/ co-dependency issues/ hah! the lot.

Well, lets just say that if Mommy Dearest HAS a "cousin Vituchio in Brooklyn" she would never admit it, much less call him. He simply "isnt our kind", dont you know.

lol...yesss! she would call them.."your father's bent branch of the family.."So..?? will Mom "put her foot down"?? (on Randi's head?..or STEVE's??..or BOTH!) I think there's some REAl fun to be had when the two of them meet. What's fun is that lucky ole Steve has this great built-in defense team standing right on the other side of the camera.. Man..would a lot of prospective "male fiances" across the world like to have THAT option when first they face the barracuda Mom guarding the Vestial Portal. Mr. Lucky just gets to follow one of my favorite creeds for life: 'DANCE LIKE NO ONE IS WATCHING'

aHH! The Brother! You're right. That child has his own "issues".His usual phrase to the Mom for the last 19 years: "You like Randi best!" to which Mom replies while watching Oprah: "Boys drool..girls rule..get over it..hand me those Macaroons..USE THE NAPKIN!!!!! who'd want to eat those after your dirty fingers were all over them" Did you SEE Mom's house? Hey,nothing sez "laid-back" and "well-adjusted" like "color-coordinated" furniture covers.

I cannot believe that Randi is so sheltered. She appears like she comes from a strong catholic background with a very strong mother and father. She needs to at this stage of her life to branch out a bit. Maybe this is why she got on this show. Her mother seems very demanding

demanding? uh...ATTILA THE HUN...SADDAM THE INSANE...SISTER MARY MAGDALAINE...(my 4th grade Nun teacher..don't ask..)THEY were demanding. What Randi's mom is..is uh..a little stronger. A CONTROL FREAK. And the "dad"...he goes SILENT!!!! for TEN seconds after her "good news announcement". I could hear him thinking: "..that little ungrateful witch..how dare she make a decision..without ME!!" sheeesh. What the heck does he do when she has BAD news..??? Off to the closet for spiked wristcuffs and warm water in the old dog bowl?? Yep! You're right. Ole Randi needs a sabbatical from the short leash life-style. "IF I DON'T LIKE HIM..SHE'S COMING HOME WITH ME!!"..hmm..you tell 'em mom. Keep sending those messages of .."you have NO value whatsoever as a person, unless I decide to give it to you and we will both have the understanding that it's on 'loan'..." I fear for this family. I tear for this family. Give me the "fake" family of Steve's ANYDAY. What my therapissed friend calls "adjusted malajusts". Can't wait for next week when mom screams at the "happiest" moment of her daughter's life (the announcement she's marrying the man of her life search in 3 days." "DON'T DO IT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!"...way to be there, mom.

Season Two: That Big Fat Obnoxious Corpse.Bruce and Pat have finally snapped, and Steve is lying face down next to the coffee table. Who will tell Randi? Will Dad crank up the new wood chipper? Or will they bury him in the backyard and use him a "hazard" in the croquet course? These reality show contestants need a reality check!

Randi needs to get with the program. Look, she's stuck with Steve -- it's obvious by now she can't trust his behavior and the way she's building him up to her family and friends is totally unrealistic and lame! Instead of describing him as her "dream guy," he's perfect and amazing and all the other B.S. she keeps spewing, she needs to go for the "alternative" tact. Say something like: you guys, you're never going to believe this, but I met the coolest, most amazing guy. He's nothing like you would have expected me to be with, but he's so funny and crazy -- he always makes me laugh, we get along great, and we've fallen in love. He's brought out a side of me I never knew existed! He's a little rough on the outside, but a teddy bear on the inside and he treats me so nice.THEN I think she could convince her family and friends. But the way she keeps building him up, they're all going to be expecting some supermodel dude and, like her friend, they're naturally shocked when they do meet him because he's nothing like the build-up. She's going about the initial introductions all wrong. I'll be interested to see if she can pull this off. Right now, she needs to get that stick out of her @ss and loosen up a little -- have some fun! There's half a million at stake here!!! This show should BE her therapy -- a girl who's NEVER been in love before, not once, and she's in her late 20s? Sounds like she's got too many high and mighty issues. She seems like she could be a nice fun girl if she would just loosen up a little.

Now! if we can just get RANDI to read your post! That's some of the best stuff I've seen on any of these boards. It's so true. You're right. The mom says..."..she's dated LOTS of guys but NEVER said she loved one!!" But since this is all about PSYCHOLOGY anyways, maybe that's why she can't consider your approach (which just might work) And just look at the "fun" she had when she was tearing Steve's hair off!! Genuine honest open laughter! Again, you're right. Needs more of that. Hey..what about this...a six week show where she's totally cut off from her family and just dates Steve "IRL"?? No more farting and belching. But plenty of really great fun and real intimacy with a real person...but hmmm..Steve would be the loser in that scenario. tough to create intimacy when one of the partners keeps telling you.."uh..we never touched much as a family..so..uh..I don't like to be touched.." Maybe instead, the next show we get is: "Randi's Room" starring Randi Coy and Dr. Phil.

All I can say is that this show is really funny. I never stop laughing. Steve is crazy and he is doing a great job of disguising himself. I love it! > This show should BE >her therapy -- a girl >who's NEVER been in love >before, not once, and she's >in her late 20s? Actually, she's 23 (or 24, something like that) but definitely not late 20s. She was only in her "job" as a "Catholic School first grade teacher" for about two months, and it was probably her first job out of college. I also thought it was weird that the adult sons still lived at home (I'm assuming Randi didn't since it was stated that she came from Arizona). And, boy, did they feel free to knock everything and everyone else! Did you hear a good word from them about ANYTHING? Take a good look at yourselves, Mommy's Boys! Your point about how Randi should "position" Steve is right on and I've wondered why she hasn't taken that approach (aside from the fact that she's probably too stupid to think of it). She probably knows instinctively that her parents would never buy it--I get the feeling that laughter and a sense of humor aren't valued highly around the Koy household!

LAST EDITED ON 02-07-04 AT 12:35 PM (EST)I didn't realize Randi was that young. But even still, that's old enough to have fallen in love at least once ---- I find it hard to believe she never has been. I was "in love" with my high school boyfriend and a couple subsequent --- or at least you think you are. Although, come to think of it, it was her mom that said: Randi's never told me she's loved a guy before ---- so maybe it's just that Randi's family is too uptight to discuss stuff like that and Randi just didn't share. Which is sad enough in itself --- if ever a family needs to take a good look at themselves after the airing of this show, it's the Randi family. BTW, if they are so affluent, WHY do they need a measly $250K?? After taxes and all, it's a nice chunk, but certainly not what they need to put themselves through in order to get it if they already have money. Maybe Randi could use the $$ on her schoolteacher's budget (although she sure does have some damn nice clothes --- is the show supplying some of her wardrobe, I wonder??) but her family sure doesn't look like they need the money, even despite Randi's protests of how much it would "help" them. I am loving this show, though. Steve is great. Randi could make it a little funnier if she'd start going with the flow. At this rate, I have no idea how she's going to convince her family of anything. I sure hope an acting career isn't in her post-reality show plans. lol

Randi lives northeast of Phoenix, in Scottsdale, Arizona. for those of you unfamiliar with Scottsdale, most of the locals call it Snottsdale. It is not uncommon at all to find a missing fence post or two wedged up someone's you know what...so much so that there was enough of an uproar to force her out of her job. "I don't want my first-grader to be exposed to this..." type of thing. (btw, your first-grader should be in bed) But the Snotts made a big enough deal about it, so she quit. Which by the way, is clue #1. Contestant enters reality show, and after filming it quits their job...did they win the money? (Rob and Brennan, Amazing Race)Which gets me to another subject, which is, what, exactly is the point of this show? Clearly Steve could "carry it too far" and insure that the family doesn't attend the wedding, and clearly he could "play it cool" and insure that they do...so with the power totally in his hands (and the writers, producers, etc) why would they choose to give away 500k? Would you? IMO, it will be a better finish if they don't attend the wedding. (which of course we know they do form the previews of the actual wedding, where the dad stands up after the voice-over of "does anybody object?")

>Which gets me to another subject, >which is, what, exactly is >the point of this show? Clearly, the point of the show is to embarrass and humiliate Randi and her family. And I, for one, applaud that! There are way too many people in this country who take themselves WAY too seriously and need a dose of "reality" to lighten them up. In the meantime, we get to watch Steve's and his "family's" antics and laugh our @sses off! Not to take this thread OT, but I can't help comparing and contrasting the Koys with another recent Fox reality family, the Ledings. While Albert and Janice came off a bit stiff at times, they generally rolled with the punches and enjoyed Paris' and Nicole's antics. Of course, they weren't being deceived the way the Koys are, but still... BTW, I'm sure that Randi and her family will receive some kind of "compensation" in the end for putting up with all of this. I doubt very much that Fox stiffed them. After all, the network DID misrepresent the contest to her; they would definitely owe her something for the mammoth ratings she's helping them generate!

Yes! I love the way they've been having Steve "pull back" and be serious for a second. The bit with the trying on of the wedding clothes and pretending to "really like" Randi was brilliant. She reallllllllllllllllly bought it..(since what man could resist her??).But following our therapy and psychology thread...isn't it interesting that the mother..father..sons..and ultimately..gulp! the daughter (Randi) NONE of whom show any attempt whatsoever to "reach" Steve? It never OCCURS to Randi at any time to 1.) offer Steve part of her money if he'll "dummy up"....2.) join in his fun to provide at least a "psychological fit" stating to her parents that this is a "new" direction she's taking in her life and really wants to see where it leads her. What appears so evident is the fact that NOT ONE of the Coy family members can remove the aforementioned "fence post" far enough to sit comfortably with any other thought process that I WANT WHAT I WANT WHEN I WANT IT..AND I WANT IT DONE MY WAY ..RIGHT NOW!! But that's the beauty of the casting! Luckily they DON'T do any of these things or the show wouldn't be HALF as much fun. Remember what P. T. Barnum said in 1864 !!! that is just as true at this minute as when he uttered it..with a complete understanding of "human nature" in general: 'NO ONE EVER WENT BROKE...UNDERESTIMATING..THE AMERICAN PUBLIC..'

I am beginning to think she is going to need a little therapy when this is all done. She hasn't gotten in the right frame of mind to pull this off....She is still trying to make her parents believe she is the same old person and this is somehow the guy she picked. The trick, I and I think others have said it, is to behave a little different herself.... But she is so set on her own perfection that she can;t see it...

Sheesh!..You are sooo right. Like it was a "horrible" thing to have turned your entire life around and actually be on the road to full recovery!!BUT...remember..this is the SAME dad that looked his daughter right in the eye and said the unforgettable phrase: "..well..What Kind of Support Do you NEED??" Hmmm..Nope..no Therapy needed there. Now..lemmee see..Daughter's getting married...it's a guy that doesn't "mesh" with the "picture-perfect-looking-good-all-our-dysfunctional-skeletons-are-in-the-garage-top-shelf" family...and he's casually wondered..well, heck..if she DID need support..uhh..duhh..what the ..would it look like?? Mom didn't do any better in this department. When told that they were "Ex-hippies", she simply rolls her eyes and sez.. "Well..I thought about THAT..and well.."Ex" hippies...are...Hippies!.." (Naw..they wouldn't be able to "recover" either, huh, Mom??) Man oh man..there's a complete course in "recovery" to be taught from this family... CUT TO: Steve having a full-blown "panic" attack on the side of the road with cars stopping and him obviously in life-threatening? scenario... and Steve can only "laugh" about it later and shake his head slowly from side to side almost whispering (because even with his defined sense of humour he didn't believe it happened..) "She Wouldn't Even HELP ME UP!!!" Dad sez: "We raised our kids to be MANNERLY!!" Steve sez (to the camera..us..) "Yeah..well..she was perfectly OK with me stealing the vase from the house!!! Some manners.. Waddaya wanna bet Dr. Phil comes on the last show and says: "Coy Family...you didn't win the money, but as a 'consolation prize'...the tv studio has paid for 6 months unlimited visits to my office...with one whole day each week set aside for the older son..who's got ISSUES!!!"
