PLEASE NOTE: The Reality TV World Message Boards are filled with desperate
attention-seekers pretending to be one big happy PG/PG13-rated family. Don't
be fooled. Trying to get everyone to agree with you is like herding cats,
but intolerance for other viewpoints is NOT welcome and respect for other
posters IS required at all times. Jump in and play, and you'll soon find out
how easy it is to fit in, but save your drama for your mama. All members are
encouraged to read the
complete guidelines.
As entertainment critic Roger
Ebert once said, "If you disagree with something I write, tell me so, argue
with me, correct me--but don't tell me to shut up. That's not the American way."

When I saw 2/3-3/4 of the audience give Monty a standing ovation, I thought he was a shoo-in to make it to the final 10. Yet he gets passed by and others who didn't get nearly the same audience response - suggesting they weren't as good - advance. What's the deal? Granted, it isn't only what the audience thinks that matters, hence the need for the judges, but given that they're trying to find the next big comic, should more attention not be paid to how well the comics are being received by the public? If an audience doesn't laugh at anything a comic says, the judges wouldn't be able to help but take note of it. So why doesn't it work the other way around? I vote for a recount - put Monty in and take out someone who didn't earn the crowd's approval as much as he did (read: anyone). And if it was just poor editing by NBC and the other comics actually were better received than it appeared, how about showing us that? Evidently, they're no strangers to splicing segments together (given Jay Mohr's opening segment where he's got his hands clasped together at his chest, then cut to behind him and his hands are at his sides, then cut to in front of him and his hands are behind him, then cut to behind him and his hands are back at his sides...) If the audience was killing itself laughing so hard at the comics who advanced, how about showing it to the viewing audience? As it stands now, I'm considering no longer watching, since it seems the judge's votes are skewed and that it doesn't actually have anything to do with the most deserving comic, but the comic that a handful of judges likes the most. There's a fundamental difference. Hopefully the shows will soon start to demonstrate that.

Sigh. I suppose it's too much to ask that they just pick the 10 funniest (i.e. crowd pleasers). What if the 10 funniest turned out to be all black guys or all wise-##### chicks or all whatever? We'd get a funnier show to watch, but they seem compelled to give us a mix of personalities, some of which aren't funny as some of the other types which might be "duplicated."

LAST EDITED ON 06-17-04 AT 11:53 AM (EST)Well said. The fix is in, and NBC certainly can't edit. And I'm sure the only reason they're showing all the preliminary stuff (and even going as far as having celebrity "judges"), is due to the popularity of the American Idol William Hung phenomenon. Go ahead - admit it. At certain points during the first two episodes of LCS2, you probably found yourself laughing not at the comedy, but at the fact certain people thought it was comedy. Networks are notorious for hand-picking half the reality TV contestants already (outside of formal 'audition' processes, why would we expect anything different here, just because they billed it as a competition? Oh. right. MEmacmur

Its all about the ratings i think. I hated Todd Glass's act, and I'm sure a bunch of other people did too, but i was rooting for him because he'd annoy all the people in the house and make it funny. I ;oved last year's house because everyone made fun of Dat Phan and it was hilarious.(Although i am mad about him winning) NBC wants the house to be funny.
