SurvivorOverlord 1351 desperate attention whore postings DAW Level: "Beef Jerky Spokesperson" 08-07-03, 01:12 PM (EST) "Dat Phan stunk up the Tonight Show last night!!!" I never thought he should have won, but gave him the benefit of the doubt and decided to watch him last night on Leno...I thought he would maybe do some new stuff. What does he do....he comes out with the stupid accent again for the first few seconds before saying "I speak English"...and then it was the same lame ass stuff we have seen in everyone of his sets. Correct me if I am wrong, but isn't this the guy with the big ass notebook full of bits???? THEN DO SOME OF THE OTHER ONES!!!!!!!!!!!! I am so sick of the same stuff over and over.... Some people didn't like Ralphie's political set, but the one thing you can say about Ralphie and Dave...everytime you saw them, they did new orginal material....to me that is the mark of a great comedian...they understood that this was a TV show and that thier audience was going to consist of some of the same people every week and they couldn't get away with doing the same set week after week! Dat Phan is pretty funny the first time you see him, I will give him that much...but after the 2nd or 3rd time I wanted to ask him to go play "Hide and Seek"! I am a big Dat Phan fan and I was glad that he won the competition. But now I can't stand the site of that fool!! How could he do that same stuff again on Leno. He has got to be a complete idiot to think that his act is fresh and new. Its autrocious!! He needs to mix it up a little and get new punch lines. I think his mother would do better comedy than him. The only reason I was happy to see him win was so that he could show the world that he is not a 15-minute famer. Now he has proved me wrong - he doesn't even deserve 15 minutes. First, I like his style of delivery just fine (some people don't, but hey! humor is subjective). Second, Ralphie is topical and up-to-date. Third, Ralphie's material is always fresh. Similar themes in everything, but never the same thing twice, like Dat Phan does. I think Dat Phan has tremendous potential. I was really seeing possibilities in the physical "kung-fu" type humor that could be interwoven in his jokes. I'm not worried about the Asian stereotyping of the jokes, but he needs to be fresh with this stuff. Maybe NBC will get some writers (maybe Dave Mordal?!?! to help Dat Phan out. Contradictions don't exist. If you are faced with a contradiction, check your premises. Dat Phan does the same material in every monologue! I can see doing the same bits if he is on a tour of comedy clubs but to do them on national television over and over again is lame to say the least. What was he thinking??? I never thought he was funny in the beginning. He seemed rather rehearsed to me...... If he comes to a comedy club near me I won't be in attendance.
