"He's no Millionaire..."
... heck, he doesn't seem to have $2.50 either. This is too funny...

The Dirt on FOX's 'Joe Millionaire'

Monday's premiere of FOX's nutty new reality show "Joe Millionaire" has thrown the spotlight on the man in the middle of it all -- 28-year-old Evan Marriott.

The premise of the program is that, in a twist on ABC's "The Bachelor," this guy gets to pick a mate from 20 eligible young women. The snag is, they all think that the sharp-looking Joe/Evan is a rich guy who's just inherited $50 million. Truth is, he's a construction worker who earns a mere $19,000 a year.

Then again, according to The Smoking Gun Web site, there's even less to Joe/Evan than meets the eye.

According to the site, California Highway Patrol officers cited Marriott last Sept. 25 for "toll evasion" on State Road 73 near Irvine, Calif.

The most Marriott was trying to avoid paying was $2.50.

The toll could have been as low as 50 cents, depending on where the young pseudo-millionaire commenced the trip in his 2001 Ford truck.

In the end, that would have been even cheaper than it sounds. Marriott reportedly pleaded guilty and paid a fine -- of $104.

Hey Pepe,

This news definitely seems to lay to rest the speculation that Fox was pulling a "double switch". At one point, I remember hearing that "Joe" actually did have big bucks, and Fox was pulling a fast one on the audience as well as the women.

Have you heard anything about this rumor?

I did hear about this, but apparently these rumours came out (i.e. mid-December) before the full concept of the show was released by Fox. I haven't heard anything along this line since then.

Yes and most likely.

Find CC in Dana Point and he'll tell you. He's playing at the Old Rib Trader, or check out the Villa, if rebuilt.

Found an interview with him here

http://windowsmedia.com/mg/home.asp?

It's on the front page.

It doesn't have anything to do with Pepe's post, but I didn't want to start a new thread.

Does anyone else think after he tells the girl he doesn't make much and she has her moment that he might be handed a million dollar check from Fox, regardless of whether she still "loves" him or not......
I think there's got to be more to the end than just a, him: "oh, by the way, I make 19,000.00 a year...her: "oh, well I don't really love you" ending.

I've been pondering along that same track - I'll bet that he gets some bucks from them at the end, which means that either he and his true love do have a little nest egg to start with or he gets the satisfaction of seeing the gold digger's comeuppance.

I had a similiar problem in college. Commuting to NY from VaTech in southwest Virginia. The tolls up to NY were crazy with bridges/tunnels/toll roads, etc.

I realized after eating and buying smokes, I had no more cash for the upcoming toll both. So instead of panic setting in I drove up and told the lady I had no money. She directed me to the toll station. I went in and discussed the issue. They gave me an envelope addressed to the toll bureau and told me I had a 30 day deadline to mail in my money with a small fee (like 1.50). So I did that when I got home and to the ATM. He should have just done that and spared himself the drama. Especially since he was going to be on TV.

Later,

Have to give a different kind of story: being from Oklahoma which is riddled with tollroads, many now are unmaned, no one to make change, ect. plus the tollhouses seem to be in the middle of nowhere. Anywhoos, going home to visit one weekend, I had correct change I thought only to find out the tolls had been raised by 50 cents, changemaker was empty and only came up with 50 cents in change by counting pennies which they don't accept. Threw in what I had anyway and a week later got a ticket in the mail (tag photo id). On pricipal I fought it and won, but with missing work and such it cost me about what the ticket was. So maybe his story is something like that where it would have cost more to fight it. Hey, I like the guys smile

The area Evan is from is still mostly freeways. The tolls are few and far between, and the booths like you said, in the middle of nowhere. Easy to get caught w/ no change especially when not used to tolls.

Did they mention what kind of car he drove?
