"Alex -- More Than Just One Line"
LAST EDITED ON 02-10-03 AT 10:24 AM (EST)

On Saturday afternoon I was flipping through channels and came upon an interview with Alex McLeod on "Soap Dish." She was very bubbly during this interview. It apparently was taped while there were still three contestants and may have aired prior to Saturday. Here is what she had to say (not verbatim because I didn't record it):

The girls were promised a trip to France, shopping, a good time, etc. and the chance to meet an eligible bachelor. They did not know about the $50 million until they arrived.

Alex felt bad about the elimination rounds, but also felt like she was doing them a favor and saving them from further embarrassment as the game continued. And of course, the producers wanted her to come off as cold and heartless so she's just playing a role.

One of her favorite girls was Smiley -- guess that was the kiss of death for Melissa M.

And of course my favorite, that Evan is such a charmer, very nice gentleman and that he had no idea that viewers would respond to this the way they have.

Really can't remember the rest. And for those of us who wondered where Alex came from. Apparently she previously hosted "Trading Spaces."

Alex felt bad about the elimination rounds, but also felt like she was doing them a favor and saving them from further embarrassment as the game continued.

How so? I guess this part ended up on the cutting room floor. And by the way, the whole interview here as transcribed by samboohoo gives me the impression that at the time of the interview, Alex didn't know she was being cut out of the show as much as she was.

And of course, the producers wanted her to come off as cold and heartless so she's just playing a role.

We haven't seen enough to understand just what she's talking about. Again, this is probably because she's edited out so much.

However, I think we can gain a clue from this as to WHY she's edited out. Maybe her "acting" cold and heartless came across as too much so; therefore, they eliminated most of her scenes. And maybe this was at HER request.

Thanks for posting this. There has been so much chatter around here as to what happened on the show with her and the butler and why she is the "HOST" but we rarely see her.

This adds to the picture, so thanks.

Well, we got to see a little more of Alex last night. She gave the girls the scoop at the beginning of the show, instead of her usual one shot at the end. Since they didn't have a necklace ceremony, they needed to fit her in... plus, I didn't see that wascally butler anywhere around, so they might have HAD to use Alex there.

Even in her one scene, they showed as little of Alex as possible.

Oh well, she has her green dollar bills.
