"Friday Night Lights, Season 3" |
LAST EDITED ON 07-14-08 AT 03:44 PM (EST)Exclusive: 'Friday Night Lights' Cuts Two Players Jul 8, 2008, 09:14 PM | by Michael Ausiello Categories: Friday Night Lights I've been dreading this day. Ever since Friday Night Lights' odds-defying renewal (thanks, DirecTV!), pessimistic fans like myself have been waiting for the other cleat to drop. And now we can stop waiting. Sources confirm to me exclusively that two of the show's MVPs, Gaius Charles (Smash) and Scott Porter (Jason), have been taken off contract and will only appear on a recurring basis in Season 3. In a just-released statement, exec producer Jason Katims says, "Pete Berg, myself and our fellow producers have enormous respect for Scott and Gaius both as actors and individuals. In short, we love them. However, both of their characters have now graduated and in the creative spirit of the show, we have decided to give them powerful four episode arcs that will observe their characters as they launch themselves into the next phase of their lives. We certainly will keep the door open for both actors to return in the future, depending on the actors' availabilities. We know both Scott and Gaius will go on to have enormous success and we wish the best for both of them." Total bummer, I know, but not a complete surprise. In the case of Smash, Katims conceded that finding a way to justify hanging onto his college-bound running back would be difficult. “The Smash story definitely creates a challenge for us,” he told me back in May. “He will presumably have graduated . It's definitely going to require some finessing and the right balance between taking the right amount of poetic license, but not doing anything that would question the authenticity and believability that is so important to our show.” Similarly, maintaining the viability of Jason – the Panthers' ex-starting quarterback who was left paralyzed by a Season 1 injury – has also presented challenges. One possible exit strategy has Jason leaving Dillon to start a new life with his pregnant girlfriend. One thing you can be sure of: Katims remains committed to bringing both characters' storylines to a satisfying conclusion. As one insider assures, "He has too much respect for the fans — as well as both actors — to leave them hanging like that." I would expect nothing less from Katims. But enough about me, I’m anxious to hear from you, my fellow FNL loyalists: Sad to see Smash and Jason go? Comforted by the fact that they’ll at least be around long enough to wrap up their storylines? Praying FNL gets some long overdue Emmy love when nominations are announced next Thursday? http://ausiellofiles.ew.com/2008/07/exclusive-frida.html Snidget rocks! Friday Night Lights Rules! A good friend will come and bail you out of jail...but a true friend will be sitting next to you saying, "Damn... that was fun!"

I hope they keep Smash's mother, that actress is amazing. Her character, spot on. They could probably use her as a community nurse. All the kids could go to her with their personal stuff. “I love Jesus but I drink a little”. Gladys Hardy

This season has been pretty good so far. Characters and story lines are compelling. They did a great job finishing Smash's story and have a good set up to end Jason Street's story.I love the QB controversy. I wish Coach and Principal Taylor had more interaction/confrontation over funding. I hope that angle is not over. The less Lyla the better. Looks like Tyra is about to get a big wakeup call next week. Fear the reaper.

I am loving the season, especially commercial free! The "Principal" Taylor part is just a little too far fetched in my book....but, hey, it's only TV. Nice to see our old Landry back. Sarencen's storyline is kinda neat, helps fill in some gaps.

I just finished watching Episode 3 today online, and I can now watch the rest on Tivo. POSSIBLE SPOILER ALERT - SORRY
I agree with you about the Smash story. They didn't have to do that, and I think this is one of the the best things they could have done for a character. They could have just had him go to college. I'm glad they didn't. It's real. It's believeable, adn it also includes his mother, which makes it even better. Absolutely love it. I haven't seen the Jason story yet. I guess I will shortly.

No, I'm not going to spoil it. Except that you might need your Kleenex. Happy tears, sad tears. Season 3 certainly makes up for what we didn't get with Season 2. To this day, I still cannot fathom how people cannot love this show. I am now adding another item to my "What to do when I win the Mega Millions Lottery."1. I loved Billy this episode. I thought he had some good, funny stuff: About Lyla: "She went to bed with Jesus, and she woke up with you. You're a Jesus rebound." And then him declaring his love for Mindy while she's giving some dude a lap dance. Tis the season.

Principal Taylor?Tim and Lyla were cute sneaking around. Lyla living with Buddy. Where is Santiago? What are the pegs in pegs and eggs? *makes icky face* I liked Tim going to Smash about his new position at tailback. Who better to ask? Plus? Tim eating ice cream? It’s amazing it didn’t melt right there in his hand. I loved the scene where Coach and Buddy were talking about Matt and coach says he can handle anything and then we see Matt struggling with a knot in his shoelace. Hee! Matt and Landry? Yes, please. I love that Landry and Tyra remain close. How can Tami spend money that was specifically given to her for a jumbotron on other things? Can she do that? Mindy and Billy are fun together. Billy is always fun though. Poor Smash. Don’t like the QB drama. The Panthers were kicking butt that game with Matt at QB. So why is he so nervous about this McCoy kid? Tyra should absolutely be satisfied and grateful to get into a junior college. Meh. I still love the Taylors. “you’re just trying to get laid.” “It’s 9:45.” “I only eat free range eggs.” “That’s ridiculous. Eat your eggs.” I miss Jason. Overall, I guess I liked this episode. As usual, the characters ages are in question. (what grades are Tim, Tyra and Lyla in now? Really, it doesn’t matter what grade Tim’s in as long as they keep liberally showing him without a shirt. 14th? 15th? Don’t care. How is Tami principal? Shouldn’t baby Gracie have aged 8 months since this is like 8 months later?) They have explained that they wanted to give the original characters a full senior year with closure. With season two being cut short, they had to bring them back to send them off properly into the sunset or wherever they’re going. So, again, I am willing to overlook it. This will be the last time I can do that though. Oh, FNL, I do love you. But I knew you when.

Principal Taylor? - Yep, if I hadn't seen a spoiler about this, I would've been completely lost. Even for TV, it's a stretch to think a reluctant counselor would suddenly become a principal. Hope this one gets explained during the season...I liked the scenes with Coach Taylor and Smash, and especially the coach-speak, "Do you want to spend your life at the Dairy Freeze?" Also, Smash's realization that he's going to have to be Brian again was painful but realistic. The scenes with the new QB's dad and the ice cream truck were a hoot. And the shot of the dad at practice, sitting in the bleachers next to Buddy Garrity, hint at an upcoming quarterback controversy. Agree with Glow, they need to bring Jason Street back and close out his story line. Surfkitten Sigshop Summer 2008

Agree with you and Glow. Without giving anything away, I agree with the Principal Taylor thing, but it will come in to play later in the year. I think they needed to do it for that. LOL at Billy proclaiming his love for Mindy while she gave a lapdance. Loved the scenes with Coach and Smash. And, as someome who has just re-watched all of Season 1, this fits right in with that. I certainly don't like Joe McCoy, but I love the actor playing him. And I loved Coach questioning who was sitting with Buddy, what the two-game rumor was and then at Mack waiving to Buddy. Jason will get closure. Great closure. I think I mentioned this above to Wayne. FNL didn't have to do anything with Smash and Jason this year. They are doing a great thing by wrapping up their stories in the way they will. *smooches Agman*

43. "Scott Porter blogs his last show" |
http://popwatch.ew.com/popwatch/2009/03/scott-porter.html 'Friday Night Lights': Scott Porter blogs last Friday's show Mar 8, 2009, 01:02 PM | by Scott Porter
Well. I'm supposed to be here blogging about Episode 3.8 (what we call it in the biz, 3rd Season, Episode 8, New York, New York) of Friday Night Lights. There's only one problem. I haven't actually watched it. I haven't watched any of my episodes this year. Don't know if I ever will. I can't really explain why, it's just something that I haven't gotten around to. They are sitting there on my entertainment center, in DVD form. They are also resting on my DVR, ready to be Slingbox'ed to my computer for my viewing enjoyment at any time. They might collect dust for a little while longer. I don't know when that time will actually come.
I watched Gaius Charles' exit episodes and was touched beyond belief. The final scene with him flashing that Bazillion gigawatt smile that electrified FNL for three years was just perfect. I wish I could've been there, wish Jason would've had more interaction with all these other amazing characters on our little show that could, and did. I wish I would've had a scene with Jesse Plemons, who basically was my little brother in Austin. I wish I would've had more time with Aimee and Connie and Adrianne. It would've been a pleasure, but I'll just sit back and enjoy their work from afar. And applaud them. After those four episodes I stopped watching. Maybe it's that I just want to remember those five weeks of filming my exit from FNL, as I remember them. Not how they've been edited together to fit into 42-minute episodes for commercial enjoyment. That month was slightly surreal. It was wonderfully bittersweet. So, that's what I'll talk about here...the steps that led up to Jason Street leaving Dillon, TX, and how Scott Porter remembers it. I got the call in June that Jason Street would be wrapping up and moving on from FNL, that I was becoming a guest star in Season 3. That his entire exit would be told in four episodes. I was at a comic book convention in Philadelphia (Wizard World) getting ready to go sing karaoke with all my nerdy friends. Jason Katims and Peter Berg called me together on a conference call. Conference call? I knew that wasn't a good sign. Sure enough they broke the news to me. Thank God for Pete's straightforward nature, the honesty was refreshing. It was a punch in the gut, I was upset, angry, but then I really started to think about it. I really feel like we had painted Jason into a corner by cutting him off from so many of the characters on the show over the first two years. There was no other way out, I guess. There was no victory for Jason within the borders of Dillon. Surely we could've kept him coaching, we could've had Riggins move in with him to be his caretaker. We could have done a lot of things differently to keep Jason in touch with the other characters of the show, but what would that have bought him? A victory of living in little Dillon, TX? After we saw his heart? After we saw him struggling to become a man in front of us? After we realized that Street was destined for something more than just sitting, wasting his days away in a town that was too small for him? Those things would've been nice for Jason's longevity on the show, but they would not have seemed right to me. He needed to get out. He needed to show the world that he was capable of greatness, injury or not. Greatness was not to be found in Dillon.
The tough part of getting Jason out of Dillon was the motivation. It came in the form of Erin and Noah. Jason's miracle child, his baby boy. The problem being, no one knew who Erin was. No one really cared, and we had a huge hurdle of trying to get them to care enough to buy into Jason chasing her. This would've all been a lot easier had we not had the writers' strike in Season 2. Over the final seven episodes that were planned for Season 2, you were going to see this kind of Knocked Up relationship form between Jason and Erin. It would have really cemented them as a couple. As two scared kids who connect on a deeper level than they ever imagined. I promise you all that if we had those seven episodes back, you would be in love with Jason and Erin. We never got those seven episodes back, though. What we did get was a 13-episode order for Season 3. With as large a cast as we have, coupled with our characters growing up by the minute, tripled with need to breath new life and new cast members into the show, four episodes was what we had to get all of that across to you. We had to have a storyline that picked Jason up, confronted him with larger than life challenges, allowed him to conquer, and somehow get out of Dillon to go on to a bright future. I think we did a hell of a job. Tamara (Erin) was beautifully honest in the Jason/Erin scenes. She walked into a situation where she was playing a bolt out of the blue. Not only did she have the challenge of playing a scared, tired, nervous, young mother, she had to play it on a beloved show against one of its most embattled characters. She played it with a grace and an honesty that I loved. Our scenes felt raw. I was not going to let her or Noah go without a fight. Surprisingly enough, an actress who you had seen twice before, was responsible for a lot of my drive through that last month. Thank you, Tamara. K-O (Kevin Rankin, Herc), Derek (Billy Riggins), Kitsch (Riggs), and myself called our storyline a circus of idiots. It really was like the four Stooges (Shemp included) reuniting. I laughed until I cried every day that I worked with them. Our scenes, while ludicrous at times, seemed pitch perfect. Flipping the Garrity house with these boys kept me sane over my last month. You want to talk about improv, or getting of the page, we abandoned the script daily and found pure gold in a lot of what we did together. The whole Billy being short joke? Came about organically. It started to recur and it was even funnier to us behind the scenes than it was on camera. That's just the tip of the iceberg. This show gives us a freedom that is unrivaled. And trusts us to hold ourselves accountable. It's what makes it so special. There was a take of a scene that you'll never see, that I'd like to share with you. It's the lullaby scene with Street and the boys in the Garrity house. The three of them (Herc, Riggs, Billy) are quietly working behind Street as he sings a lullaby to his baby over the phone. Derek (Billy) decided that he was gonna start making cracks about it behind my back, instead of just going along with the "quiet recognition" that was in the script. Street has tennis balls in his wheelchair bag, he uses them to try and improve his dexterity and strength in his hands. As I finish singing, I hear Billy drop some smart-##### line about me and my kid. Without thinking, I grab one of the balls out of my bag and bean him in the neck with it. Perfect shot, had to sting a little. Herc and Riggs start cracking up and Billy gets so damn pissed that he turns cherry red and storms out. That is being in a scene. That is Friday Night Lights. My closing scene with Minka, where Jason asks her advice one last time, was really tough. Minka and I shared so many scenes over my time on the show, we really grew up together as people and as actors. We wanted to underplay it. To let the audience feel the weight. I haven't seen it, but I really felt like we nailed it. No words could really express the friendship of these two, I hope we didn't get in the way of it. My last scene with Brad. Buddy Garrity. Gawd was that fun. Giving it to him the way he gives it to everyone else on the show. It was really a respect thing for Jason. He and Buddy had been at each other's throats a couple of times, but Jason never really came out on top. This time he had to show Buddy that he was a man, and that he could be trusted, and I think he did. There is a scene that got cut out of the last episode with Coach Taylor and Jason Street that I was really proud of. After I got the news that I was leaving, I called Jason Katims up and told him I wanted a scene where Jason would go pick up his box of tapes and trophies from Coach Taylor's office. He didn't remember what I was talking about. What box? I reminded him that in Season 2, after I came back from Mexico, Jason gave Coach Taylor a box. He quit the team for a second time and said that he couldn't look at that stuff anymore. In typical Kyle Chandler fashion, Coach looked at me with those eyes that say a million things at once, waited, then quietly said, "I'll hold on to these until you're ready to come pick them up." It wasn't in the script, but it made so much sense. So, I told Jason I wanted to go pick up the box. He loved the idea, wrote a scene, and we shot it the next day. A simple scene. Coach Taylor was more a father to Jason than his own dad, this was Jason thanking him, Jason really becoming a man, and coach being proud of him. I heard from Jason Katims that it didn't make the network cut. I hope it makes the DVD. It would be a shame for that to lay on the editing room floor. My last scene with Kevin Rankin was so small, but meaningful. You got to see Herc really support Street. Kevin played it with such meaning, so much heart. It was the unexpected reaction from Herc that made it work. If I told you Jason Street was going to say, "I'm going to New York to be a sports agent," what would you expect Herc's return line to be? "You're an idiot..." or something equally as smart-assed, right? Well. That's not how it was written and not how it was played. He said, "Go for it..." a simple line of support. Kevin is amazing, possibly my best friend from a show that blessed me with lifelong friendships from just about everyone I worked with, and he is possibly the most incredible and generous actor I know. I'm gonna miss our wheelchair fights, homey! Oh, and just so you all know, NO, he is not really wheelchair bound, he's just that good. And that leads me into my last bit. Jason and Riggins take New York. We went with a skeleton crew. Jeffrey Reiner was in charge. No one gets this show more than he does. He is fearless, he was handpicked by Peter, and he's just as crazy. Just as brilliant. Kitsch and I didn't really speak a lot about how much this meant. About how much pressure we were under. We had two days to shoot pretty much the entirety of my last episode. Two days to end Jason Street's run on the show. Much like me and Minka, I believe that Taylor and I have really grown together on this show. We let it all hang out in those last two days. We challenged each other. We spitballed and just threw the most random lines at each other to see if we could make the other guy drop the ball. We laughed, we tackled it all with reckless abandon up until the last scene. We weren't careless though. We know Jason and Riggs, 6 and Timmy. We know them inside and out and no one can tell us any different. They live as friends as few get to on this world, with an understanding of each other and a willingness to forgive the shortcomings that they both possess. We just existed in a pocket where things felt right. Kitsch is gonna be a star, and it was my pleasure to spend my last two days with him. Those two days were insane. We didn't have permits to shoot most of the places where we did in NYC. Reiner said he wanted a scene on a subway car. So we went for it. It wasn't in the script. It was highly illegal, but we just went down to the E line and got on, cameras and all. Would you believe that when we decided to get off, there was a HUGE winding ramp with a "Wheelchair Accessible" sign on it? That's just how things happen on this show. That ramp made it into the episode. We didn't scout that location. We weren't even allowed to be there, but somehow it found us. That's what it was like to shoot this show. All the time. The scene in Times Square took place on a Saturday Night. Saturday Night, Times Square, 3 Cameras, 2 Actors, 1 Wheelchair. I looked at Taylor and we just started laughing. How in the hell are we gonna do this? I don't know how it turned out, but let me explain how it felt while we did it. We had a wall of background actors trying to keep everyone else out. Four behind me, three on either side of Kitsch and me. Our crew is the greatest crew in the world. Our PAs, ADs, everyone was all trying to protect the cameras. There were constant flashes as tourists and onlookers tried to take pictures. It was incredible. Throughout all of that we had to get a walk and talk, or Roll and Talk, between Jason and Riggs. It was one of the greatest moments of my short on-screen career. The energy was amazing. That's guerrilla filmmaking I guess. Glad to have experienced it. My final scene was two takes and done. Jeffrey told me he would only use the first. All I really remember about it was Taylor and me actually crying before takes, we would look at each other with tears and just start laughing at how ridiculous we must've looked. I am a man. I don't cry at the drop of a hat, but the emotion was too much. The end of a journey. Growing up with this crew and these actors. My first time really being able to create a character, and now watching him go on to live his imaginary life. It was just too much. To calm myself down, I asked our 1st AD to let me look at football scores on his iPhone, tried to focus on my fantasy football team. It didn't work. Texas Forever could have been a cheesy catchphrase on any other show. Not on Friday Night Lights though. Those two words carried more meaning than I could've ever imagined from the Pilot on. Every time we said it on the show, it was said from a place deep within the heart. They are words that carry with them, friendship and hope for a future that seemed beyond the grasp of these kids. We said these two words sparingly. Using them only when true friendship was so apparent that there was nothing else to say. Thank you so much for watching the show over these past years. Thank you for allowing these characters to live. Thank you to everyone involved with the show. Cast, Crew, Producers, Writers, Directors. I've said it before and I'll say it again. We caught lightning in a bottle here. We are a special show because of our trust, respect for each other, and dedication to making this show unique and real. I love you all, and I hope this show continues for years and years. Texas Forever. Snidget rocks! Friday Night Lights Rules!

Wow! Thanks for bringing this over, KScott.I thought the show did an amazing job with Jason's exit, and I think he is spot on about Street being too big to just settle in Dillon. I too remember the scene with with giving Coach Taylor his trophies, and I can't believe it didn't make the network cut. How sad. Texas Forever Street! *smooches Agman*

Thank you so much for this, KScott."Oh, and just so you all know, NO, he is not really wheelchair bound, he's just that good." Kevin Rankin is amazing. I cried so many times during Scott's last episode. A good bit of it was realizing that we weren't only losing Jason, we were losing Herc too. It's not surprising to find out that they (Scott and Kevin) were really close. I hope these guys get the opportunities they deserve from this. I would totally watch a Jason/Herc spinoff. I know that's not in the cards. But how awesome would that be? I love what he said about his final scene with Minka too. They really did nail that scene. It was perfect. "Kitsch is gonna be a star"
"Texas Forever could have been a cheesy catchphrase on any other show. Not on Friday Night Lights though." He explained that flawlessly. I miss Six. Texas Forever. Clear eyes, full hearts, can't lose

"I'm sorta madly in love with you." Yeah. The Tim/Lyla is working for me now. Timmy has become the bestest boyfriend ever. Could I be anymore in love with Taylor Kitsch? Don't be so quick to say "no" because every time I think it isn't possible to fall in love with him any deeper, I sink a little farther. I'm still not in love with Lyla but Tim makes me care about her. "Beer Wolf"Buddy going to Tim to talk about Lyla was awesome. "Am I supposed to just walk from here, Mr. Garrity?" I loved seeing Lyla and Billy bonding. It warms my heart. (but how did she not jump up and RUN to Tim's bed when he said, "I'm going to hit the sheets. Wanna come?" because rowr) Billy and Mindy are so funny. I love their scenes, however small those scenes are. It's sad to think that, if this show does continue, we will loose not only Tim and Tyra but we will loose the Riggins and that Collettes. That? is sad. There's only two episodes left this season, right? wow. That just made me almost tear up just typing that. I'd like to see Tim have his own story again though. I miss that. The East Dillon district thing is interesting. The Angela/Tyra scene at the end was touching and brought tears to my eyes. JD is growing on me. (I'm sure it has a lot to do with the actor. He's nailing this.) Thank goodness the Taylors were there. What would this town do without the Taylor House For Troubled Teens? The thing with JD and his dad was very real feeling and very powerful. But why would Joe think JD calls the plays on the field. He was doing what the coach was telling him to do. (I kept telling him that during the game but I guess he couldn't hear me.) I don't like the vibes I get from Madison... but that could be because they said she is 15 and she looks like she's 30. Tyra and Landry are back to being the couple that I loved to watch grow. I love how supportive he is and I love that she's realizing that she was taking him for granted. They have some serious acting chemistry. They're brilliant together. Grandma Saracen is breaking my heart. I hope Matt doesn't decide he can't go to college! That would be tragic. It seems Shelby would step in to help but Lorraine probably wouldn't let her. Matt might not either. It's easy to see where Shelby is coming from. She was a teenager when she had Matt. She's ready to be a mother now and get her family going. But now her child is 17 so she has to hold back a little bit so she doesn't smother him. And she has to do this while simultaneously trying to convince him (and Lorraine) that she wants to care for them. He's an adult now, at too young of an age, and he doesn't want to expect anything from his mother. She's probably been waiting for an opportunity to be involved with Matt but didn't know how to go about it. So when he came to her, she saw the opening. I hope this works out for Matt. Two more episodes? That's insane. Clear eyes, full hearts, can't lose

Agree with you about JD and Joe. Joe is just a control freak, and I believe there really are parents out there so consumed with their kids' talents, etc., that this is what you get. Coach Taylor is a football genius, so the only thing I'm wondering here is how many of the plays were JD doing it on his own and how many were Coac Taylor's plays. IMO, Eric realizes the talent JD has, but it's so raw right now, and I don't see him trusting JD that much yet. And what about Eric lying to Tami at Applebee's about not knowing what's going on with the redistricting? Interesting.

She is an interesting character. It's obvious that she is pampered and that she likes the lifestyle she has from being married to Joe.What do you think of her relationship with Tami? Do you think she genuinely wants to be Tami's friend? There is part of me that thinks it's genuine. I think she is lonely in a since and that she can have a real friendship with Tami. Early on in the season, I wasn't sure. Eric made a comment about them now "owing" the McCoys when the McCoys hosted the BBQ. At first I felt the same. While running into Tami at the grocery store was coincidence, I thought Katie was using Tami. But then I also thought that she wasn't smart enough to do that on her own. Over the course of the season, I feel like it has become more of a real friendship, and that seemed evident last night after the Applebee's incident. It will be interesting to see where this goes. Will Katie ultimately be "just Mrs. Joe McCoy" or will we get to see who the real Katie McCoy is. *smooches Agman*

I think Katie loved the lifestyle she lives, but realizes now that she is as isolated as her son from the world. I think she and Tami can have a good relationship. LAST EDITED ON 03-30-09 AT 12:23 PM (EST)http://www.avclub.com/articles/clear-eyes-full-hearts-renewed-friday-night-lights,25757/ Clear eyes, full hearts, RENEWED! Friday Night Lights will return by Genevieve Koski March 26, 2009
After hinting a couple of weeks ago that the much-loved (around here, anyway) yet perpetually on-the-brink-of-cancellation series Friday Night Lights was likely getting picked up for another season, EW’s Michael Ausiello has committed to the news, saying the done deal will be announced any day now. Even better, the show is coming back for two seasons, most likely to be aired on DirectTV before segueing over to NBC, as was the case with the show’s third season. Ausiello also says that Adrienne Palicki (Tyra) and Minka Kelly (Lyla) will be leaving the show, but probably not before a multi-episode sendoff like the ones given to Scott Porter (Jason Street) and Gaius Charles (Smash) last season. But never fear, we’ve still got Coach and Mrs. Coach (and, presumably, Riggins and Saracen, even though they’re supposedly college-bound) to keep things interesting in Dillon. Snidget rocks! Friday Night Lights Rules!

66. "Season Finale" |
Wow, I'm so sad this season is over. Much improved over last year's disaster. I waited to watch the episodes on NBC, so I avoided this thread in fear of accidentially getting spoiled. I'm glad I waited. I loved the cheesy wedding scene! The costumes?! The band! The Lodge! O.M.G. If I lived in small town Texas, I'd be offended at how it's portrayed. Since I don't live in small town Texas, I loved it! LOL! I'm so glad FNL will be back next season, and moving Coach to a new school opens the doors for a whole new set of students. Hopefully, the casting will continue to be as good as it has been. I will miss Tyra and Lyla. I can't imagine what Timmy will do. Will he go to college? Flunk out? Get injured? Who cares really, as long as he is still on my TV screen. *waves to Glow* So, will Coach be at one Dillon HS, and Tammy at the other? Yikes, that could cause some tension. Will the big bucks boosters keep screwing with the boundries to beef up their team? Will Dillon East get some big money backers to make things more fair? I hope so, I would not like watching Coach getting screwed over every week by dirty tricks. I love Matt's relationship with his grandma, and I love that Julie loves Matt's relationship with his grandma. I don't think Matt would be happy living in the big city, but I do want him to get the life he deserves, and he deserves the best. Did I miss something, or why wasn't Landry off to some big college? He is the smartest in the bunch, and his future was ignored. Hmmm. Can't with til next season!

Quick reply for now. One of the reasons I think Season 1 was so good and Season 2 not so good is that we weren't sure of the future of the show beyond Season 1. Kind of the same thing with Season 3. At least now knowing we have a 4 & 5, there should be some really good writing coming up. I think it looks like Coach at East Dillon, Tammy at Dillon. And I think they should keep it that way for storyline purposes. I think Matt is getting cheated, but hopefully it will work out. I'm sure we'll see some Lyla and Tyra for holidays, etc. I loved the cheesy wedding scene too. Especially all of the tie-ins with the Seven Senoritas people. (If you don't recall, Billy proposed there, the baby shower was almost there, the singers were the wedding music.) I am somewhat torn about the Dillon v. East Dillon, but I see why it needs to be there. And I can't wait for Coach Taylor to kick Dillon's butts. *smooches Agman*

I loved the season finale. The Coach being at East Dillion will give an opportunity for new characters. I didn't watch the first season, but I'm wondering if Landry and Julie were a year behind the others and are now going to be seniors. Not sure.

Love this show and the finale.I didn't know about seasons 4 and 5, just a 4!!!! This is great news. How about the Chevy commercial at the front with Garrity? I can't wait to see the dynamics between Garrity and Coach Taylor. Garrity was a Panther, but he sure likes Taylor. And Garrity brought in McCoy! Riggins and his brother, and his brother couldn't fix his own car. Good set up for that storyline. Do we really think Riggins was cut out for college or just football? Matt and his Grandma....don't you wish more young men were like him? I am confused why they didn't mention where Landry was going to school. I thought he was a senior, maybe they're gonna fool us, but he's on another show already as a cop. It would have been nice to see where they were going to send him and for what. Julie's reaction to the car was complex and sooo good. Maturity with insecurity and feeling left behind. Great scripting AGAIN! Tyra and Landry and Landry's tough love with her, I just love Landry.

I got the impression this year that Landry was a senior, but I think it was always assumed that he would be fine, whereas the others had "issues."Julie is a junior this year. From my POV, she is where she is supposed to be based on the first season. Matt was a sophmore in Season 1. Agree with Glow about taking what we get. The only one I really think didn't "mesh" was Riggins. He and Jason supposedly have been frieds for life, yet Jason was two years ahead of him in school. That could work somewhat based on birthdays, but in all reality, the writers just had to make it work to keep Timmy in school. *smooches Agman*

I love Tim. I'm pretty sure I say that or something like that in every post and I can't apologize for it. Taylor Kitsch has grown so far above expectations. Tim Riggins is the best character on this show. He's become my favorite television character of all time. I don't want to see him give up on college but I don't want him to go because everybody else thinks he should. If he wants to fix cars with Billy, I'm game. I know lots of car mechanics who are married with children and earn a good living. Not everybody goes to college. I love Billy. That scene with Tim after the wedding was beautiful. And the Tim and Lyla scenes were golden. Oh! And the steer! The auction was so much fun.The wedding was perfect. Mindy's wings! and the white cowboy hats. I was thinking about why all the people there were there. I got kind of stuck on Eric and Tami and then he said, "I don't even know what we're doing here". Funny. I really liked the scene with Julie getting the car. "I didn't think about her driving it." Tyra and the UT admissions guy. "If there is anything I can do to help my chances..." I was nervous for a sec. I'd have liked a scene with Tami telling her she got in. Grandma Saracen has me a bit frustrated. Way to look out for Matt, Gram. He got accepted to the Chicago Art Institute. He has to go. I loved the ending. Coach and Tami standing in the middle of the East Dillon Lions field. I miss my happy place (Dillon, Texas) already. *waves to true*

LAST EDITED ON 04-16-09 AT 00:15 AM (EST)Where do I start?! I loved ALL of it!! Every scene was bitter sweet. I swear I didn't know whether to cheer or cry in my beer! Since I loved everything everyone else has mentioned, I'll just talk about some random musings:I thought Coach Taylor's speech sucked quite frankly. It completely missed the mark. Must've been by design. It's like the writers were thinking, "He's gotta go to East Dillon, so we can't have him make too good a case for himself." I think the opposite is most effectual. Have him make a speech that leaves everyone in tears and then tell him to kick rocks. Instead of the slap in the face we got, we would've received a punch in the gut. That's hate. I hate to see Lyla go. Damn she was fine. Tim's a better man than me. I understand all the "If you love a bird set if free..." mumbo jumbo but there's no way in Hades I let her go all the way across the country. There is such a thing as graduate school ya know... Tyra leaving was like the uppercut after the body shot that was Lyla leaving. The two hottest women on the show (and arguably all of televison) are suddenly gone! I tell you what, East Dillon better have some talent or I'm gonna be one pissed off individual. East Dillon? I. Can't. Wait. This is gonna be goooood. Think about it, some of my favorite movies are about coaches/teachers going into the ghetto and getting a bunch of misfits to believe in themselves and overcome the odds. I'll mention a few: "The Bad News Bears" (Walter Mathau as the coach) "Wildcats" (Goldie Hawn as the football coach) "Lean on Me" (Morgan Freeman as the principal) "Stand and Deliver" (Edward James Almos as the teacher) "Glory Road" (Josh Lucas as Coach Haskins) My point being, some of the best dramas come from beating the most astronomical odds. Couple that with the revenge factor against some less than shady characters and I think we're in for a treat! My guess is Eric Taylor is going to take his lumps next season but by the following season revenge will be tasted, and it will be oh so sweet. This show rocks, and it's only gonna get better. Tell eveyone you know about this show...I have. And I haven't found anyone who didn't love it after watching it after one episode.

What would you do with the relationship between Coach Taylor and Garrity???In my many years I have come to a conclusion that one useless man is a shame, two is a law firm, and three or more is a congress. ~~ John Adams ~~

Now that I've finally caught up on all the FNL episodes stashed on my TiVo, I can come in here and read everyone's comments...I thought the final three episodes were pretty good, and I'm looking forward to the next two seasons. I like this show and think it's exceptionally well-acted. Moving Coach Taylor over to East Dillon opens the door for several new actors next season, as he'll have a whole new team, and hopefully they'll be as well-cast as the current group. And I agree with the Captain, the departures of Minka Kelly and Adrianne Palicki will be noticed. But... some of the plot disconnects were jarring. The high school football season is over well before Christmas, so why focus on the practicing carolers at the church? Where's Lance Landry going to college? How could it possibly be so easy for "Uncle Gary" to fund Lyla's education at Vanderbilt? And if it were such a simple solution, why didn't Buddy think of it before Lyla moved out, or sometime while she was gone? For that matter, why didn't Buddy do something to keep Coach Taylor's job at Dillon High? As someone without DirecTV, guess I'll be waiting until January 2010 for my next FNL fix. rocked out by agman
