The voting has officially gone Internet. But because one uncaring corporate entity can only partner with someone just as bad, the format is restricted. Namely, it's restricted to Facebook. You have to have an account, you can only vote through that account, and you get fifty votes per account. Facebook will crack down on multiple accounts the same way they crack down on everything else.*pauses for laughter* As for why they're doing this -- well, see the title. It's not just corrupting the process beyond what already exists. The producers want to say 'We had eighty million votes last week!' with a straight face while neglecting to mention that 200,000 people cast 90% of them -- and ten thousand or so were responsibly for half of the not-so-grand total. Too bad the album sales don't work the same way. 
Lee's family only picked up fifty releases between them.

And it's looking more and more likely that won't change. ed. to add: Supposedly the limit is 50 votes per IP address. That shouldn't be too hard to get around.
