"Weren't the producers taking a HUGE chance with the telegram clue??" |
Hi guys,I'm new to the forum but I've got a question. Am I the only one who thinks the producers were taking a HUGE chance with the telegram clue? I'm referring to the "coded" message on the telegram that spelt out "THE MOLE IS BILL". I mean think about it... It was a clue from the mole, so it would not have been unusual for it to be scrutinized closely by the team... I could totally see this happening... "Hey guys, check it out, this phone number starts off with two zeros, it must be fake, do you think maybe it's a clue?" "Yeah, let's see, hmm... Hey pass me a phone, maybe it spells something?" "Here you go. Well, we've got AHKK, CIJK, BILL... Whoa! Check it out, it says BILL!" "Maybe it's a coincidence?" "No, look at the other numbers, they spell something too... THE MOLE IS BILL." "Odds of that are astronomical." "Yep. So Bill is the mole." "Damn, I wish I had kept my mouth shut. Oh well. Now what?" What could the producers have done at that point? There would be no easy way that I could think of to cover up that clue. All the contestants would know who the mole is. Rest of the episodes would be quite boring to watch. Game over. End of show. Thoughts...?? Alex

"Thoughts...??My thoughts are that Cyclehausen is the best poster to address these observations. He has been our unofficical "master of ceremonies" around here since inception... I hope if there is a Mole 3 you will post in the beginning of the series as opposed to the wrap up! But a kind welcome to you and I hope to see your posts in the future! Regards, Red Lady

2. "Since I'm the guru...." |
..here are my thoughts on this- First of all, with the exception of the American Mole 1, it is the tradition of the game to give at least one puzzle-type clue directly to the players which reveals the Mole. So, yes, it is a risk, but it is also a part of the "traditional" game. This being said, here are the reasons the clue wasn't a dead giveaway: 1. Assuming the clue was completely unambiguous and a player correctly interpreted it, there is still the whole reverse-psychology issue; the player must ask him/herself: "is a telegram from the Mole which seems to give away the Mole's identity reliable?" 2. The telegram clue was difficult to decipher because telephones in Italy do not have the same number-to-letter correspondence as American telephones. 3. Additionally, there was ambiguity in the telegram which could have also led the reader to Katie or Al. Finally, I want to note that the telegram, although the only dead giveaway clue, was not the only clue the players got. There were also: -"The Mole Will Beat You" during the bike race -The Mickey D's clue -The ship picture -Rudy the gnome, alluding to Survivor 1. So, short answer yes with a "but".
