I know her as a myth.
A wind that clears parched dunes.
The wellspring reviving a wilted hope. With her I’m returned to the morning
whiter than snow
as I steer this ship aground.
Into the murky beach I lay my anchor,
a feather against my anguish
which hopes for a home far away. Another day awaits my vain traditions.
Where will humility find the wreck?
When?
Sprawled on the altar praying for truth
or passed out over the edge of my fears? Insanity tempts me again.
Minute by minute I’m lured to the depths,
yet it’s her love which floats me safely to harbor.
Adopted by lust my prodigal life offers her nothing
but a middle finger and the un-kept promise of faith. She is wisdom and I am her child. Time watches me pause in the cradling arms of my mother
who paints clarity on the canvas of all creation.
Her enlightened fingers tap my forehead
as tear-filled eyes rummage through my soul. I'll stray again, of that I'm certain,
but not under this moon's tide.
While my nemesis stumbles and hungers for me,
this comforted spirit aches to never be found. I'm rescued and still hunted,
healed and still in pain,
loved but not broken. Oh to be broken.
