January sank out in the year, slowly at first,
removing December’s inappropriate glow
and seducing days with quick brisk embraces
but then suffocating , smothering,
like a one too many times scorned lover
with not a hint of evidence
reduced to snatch at the air as her mate walks past,
and leaving behind all but darkened mornings
pursued by somber deathbed afternoons
yet, I sit laughing
waist deep in empty unloaded hours,
containing husks of virgin seconds wrapped
in the remains of godforsaken moments,
nonetheless, something amusing blows my way
and I cackle loudly
unaware of how mad I must seem
to the mundane, yet eager, February dawn
