"Spoiler Island Updated With Episode 1 Results" |
Spoiler Island has been updated to reflect Episode 1. Both individual scorecards and the overall leaderboard have been updated. After Episode 1, we have 206 players tied for 1st. I've expanded the Leaderboard to list the "Top 250" so that all 206 could be displayed. I've also updated the leaderboard to correctly represent that everyone with the same score is actually tied for the same overall leaderboard position. As always, if you observe any problems or errors, please let me know. thanks. -SB

4. "Confused" |
Possibly you can help me. I had problems accessing the game (I use Windows XP) until I changed my security settings to low. From then on, it seemed as if everything was okay. But, this morning I find that I'm not credited with any score from yesterday. This is the message I'm shown when I try to access my score:ADODB.Field error '800a0bcd' Either BOF or EOF is True, or the current record has been deleted. Requested operation requires a current record. /survivor/scorecard.asp, line 300 EPISODE 1 Peter Rotu Rotu (these all have green check marks by them, and my score shows nothing) I didn't delete anything, and don't understand the message. I know of a couple of other people who are having the same problem. Please help!!

i also noticed that those who picked Rotu to win the RC were awarded 250 points, while those who picked Maraamu (like myself) were not. yet there was no RC. where's the justice?

Hi!!Yes, you are right! I also chose Maraamu for reward. In my opinion, this will be fixed - there is no reason why those who chose rotu for reward should get points, and not us!! I think the fair way would be to remove points from the rotu choosers, as opposed to adding points to the Maraamu choosers, since, there was no reward challenge for which to give points. I'll shall remain calm and hope the powers that be see the boo-boo and correct it. Otherwise, in time, I met a bit perturbed!!!! May the Torch be With You, Lisette

>There has always been only one challenge in Episode 1 that >determines both the IC and RC winners -- anyone who has ever >watched the show knows this. There was no reward this time, no matches, no fire, no food, no nothing. So although your right concerning past Ep1's, the only reward this time out was not going to TC. At the merger there is typically no RC at all, just a group merge award of food and perhaps some additional stuff at the new camp site. Anyway it's not that important, but at least this season there really wasnt a reward to go with immunity... and the only correct answer was "NO RC" (which was not an option). >Therefore if you picked one tribe >for the IC and the >other for the RC then >you were obviously trying to >hedge your votes and guarantee >you'd be getting one pick >right and the other wrong. Actually I just assumed that since there was no formal RC it wouldn't be counted. My bad on not knowing the rules. Have you considered adding a "NO RC" choice in the selection list? That might remove any confusion people have, although not sure it would be worth the trouble adding it. -ICB

FWIW, I didn't bother to pick a RC winner because I knew there wouldn't be a RC - and Maraamu just happens to appear in the box when you log in. My bad for not changing it, but it didn't occur to me that it would be counted as a wrong vote. I wasn't trying to hedge my bet. I was just lazy!Oh well, as the saying goes: "Ignorance of the rules is no excuse!" Thanks for a fun game SB.

At least now we will know how to pick up extra mistery points when we get to the final 4, because there is no reward challenge there either.

SBI'm sorry, I had not entered this thread angry and upset about 250 points, honestly big F'N deal. What got me so upset was your insulting post of "There has always been only one challenge in Episode 1 that determines both the IC and RC winners -- anyone who has ever watched the show knows this. Therefore if you picked one tribe for the IC and the other for the RC then you were obviously trying to hedge your votes and guarantee you'd be getting one pick right and the other wrong." That post was not the expected response to your original statement of "As always, if you observe any problems or errors, please let me know. thanks." Also your follow-up statement was quite a bit different from your latest: "I'll re-examine the scoring of the RC voting this weekend -- I'm not promising any changes, only that I'll think about it further." and "Honestly, I'm working to resolve the situation the best I can, but if you are so unsatisfied perhaps it's best you just stop playing the game." I understand it is your site and game, and you can run it as you see fit. So sinse you want me gone, then so be it.

23. "RE: Spoiler Island Updated With Episode 1 Results" |
LAST EDITED ON 03-03-02 AT 07:32 PM (EST)drich, I stand by my original post, and don't see where I've changed my "message" in between each followups. The statement "There has always been only one challenge in Episode 1 that determines both the IC and RC winners -- anyone who has ever watched the show knows this" is true. People that are playing the Spoiler Safari game should know the rules of the Survivor game itself -- if they don't then they are going to find it difficult to play a game that is based on knowing the underlying rules of another game. Playing fantasy Survivor is no different than playing something like fantasy baseball -- both assume that the player has a full understanding of the rules and procedures of the underlining game upon which it is based, and a failure to do so is not an excuse (or try telling your Commissioner that you didn't know that your starting pitcher was pitching that night and that's why you had him on the bench when he struck out 20.) I'm not going to apologize if you felt that my reply conflicted with my earlier comment on letting me know about problems -- I said LET ME KNOW ABOUT THEM -- I never promised that you were going to be satisfied with my response to them. While I strive to keep everyone happy all the time, the reality is that you are not going to be able to keep 100% of the people happy 100% of the time (or maybe I *SHOULD* just manually enter those three picks for Peter that I received via email from users on Friday claiming that they'd meant to select Peter but had just forgotten to login before the show aired.) As far as your opinion that my comments "I'll re-examine the scoring of the RC voting this weekend -- I'm not promising any changes, only that I'll think about it further." and "Honestly, I'm working to resolve the situation the best I can, but if you are so unsatisfied perhaps it's best you just stop playing the game." are quite different, I'm not sure what to say -- they sound similar to me -- in neither case am I not committing to resolving the present problem TO YOUR SATISFACTION, I'm only saying that I'm looking into the issue. The could mean MANY THINGS -- including either trying to retroactively correct the problem or taking steps to resolve some of the possible interface confusion that was cited (which if you login now you'll see I've done) or both. I'm not going to sit here and get into a grammar, language, or phrasing debates with you -- if you need to things to be so specifically and repeatedly detailed for you then obviously I'm not going to be able to provide that level of service for you. I will say this, there were 160 other people in the same situation as you, and only yourself and a handful of others seemed unclear as to the situation. On the other hand, I have 207 "perfect score" users who clearly understood the game and the interface and now stand to have points taken away. Rock, meet hard place. Either way I'm going to have some unhappy players, what I'm been trying to do by working to resolve the situation is research the situation further and fully understand the problem and attempt to determine WHY folks made the selection that they did (...was it because they didn't understand the underlining game? ...was it because they didn't understand the interface? ...was it because they were trying to "hedge their bets?") If my response isn't to your satisfaction, then again, I don't know what to say, but let's be clear that I'm not "telling you to leave," I'm suggesting that you respect whatever my scoring decisions are or stop playing the game -- because as webmaster I do have final control over all scoring decisions and therefore why would anyone want to continue to play a game if they so strongly disagree with the rules. Frankly I don't wish to discuss the issue of "my message" any further and hope this will be the last time I have to comment on the subject -- I have much more pressing concerns to deal with, like still determining a final resolution to this issue as well as numerous other website maintainance issues that have been far too delayed while I spent time crafting this response. -SB

I was the one who suggested to Webby that people who picked two different challenge winners were 'hedging their bets'. If this misunderstanding should have any blame associated with it then let it rest with me.Webby is really working right now to create a fair solution. I am certain that everyone will find that his decision will be a fair and equitable one. I apologize to anyone who may have been offended by my choice of words. I am the one who first used the phrase 'hedging their bets'. Let's remember that 250 points is not likely to be the margin of victory or defeat by the time the end of the show occurs anyway. It's really not worth getting upset over. Let's keep it fun.

Hi IceCat,Thanks mate for apologising! Cred points to you. Hey, I've never actually watched ONE full episode of Survivor in any of the three seasons; personally, I'd rather have all my rellies over for afternoon tea at once, that sit thru' an entire episode of all of the excreted stuff that MB comes out with for mass consumption. (And that really is the truth!) My wife loves it though!! She must have some taste though, as she married me I'm happy for the 'moderator' to take away my 250 points for the RC and make us all equal - if MB fulled the wool over everybody's eyes, and why wouldn't he? - than I admit, that I was just going on all you guys' & gals' work anyway. Otherwise we're just as bad/good as MB for bringing us this sh*t that we all love/hate/are addicted to/lurk/'buzz' around like cynical dung-beetles that hate what they feed upon. I'm just in it for a good time; excellent work by Sleeeve, IceCat, Webbs, OFG, Itzlisa, Supes, Shakes and all the rest, for giving me far more good stuff than CBS, or my own company's management (Don't go there!!!!) ever have. I'm happy to give up any of my points to all and sundry, for the non-existent RC just to keep everyone in the game - unlike MB who is out to mindfcuk us all! OK wombat, roll over and play road-kill ... like usual ...
