What good is a flint if you don't know how to use it? This is a question that has bedeviled contestants on Survivor pretty much since the show began back in the summer of 2000. If fire indeed represents life, then the members of the Reba tribe on Survivor 45 almost died on day one of the game, and that's after winning the tools to make fire at the opening marooning challenge.
In an exclusive deleted scene from the premiere, we see the victorious Reba tribe members in a furious race against the sun to get their fire lit before darkness descends. In the clip, which can be watched above, Drew mentions that Sifu has been working unsuccessfully for eight hours trying to get the fire going. "He's the hardest worker I've ever met," Drew says. Perhaps, but seemingly not one of the most efficient, considering he even had the aid of a flint the tribe won at the marooning.

Of course, Sifu would not be the first person unable to make fire with flint. One contestant, Sundra on Survivor: Cook Islands, couldn't even make it with matches. And Sifu was not about to give up. "Adversity is one of my next-door neighbors," exclaims the tai chi champion with a propensity for referring to himself in the third person. But rather than simply putting up a fence between their yards (which is what I would have done), Sifu seems to be welcoming adversity over for a cocktail.
Will it be a celebratory drink, or will the Reba tribe soon be drowning their sorrows? Check out the scene for yourself to see how it all plays out. Also make sure to read our full episode recap and premiere interview with Jeff Probst.
