DEDUCTION:

ALL of the Top Chef contenders remaining work in some form as a Chef. They do not "own" any restaurant/ organization. That does not seem to help you win! There are a few schools that didn't make the cut at all. (Read the list of eliminated)

Cliff is the only self-proclaimed "self-taught" but works as an Executive Chef in New York City.

Elia and Ilan have Paris and European(?where is that, Italy?) training respectively. French training has fallen somewhat out of favor, though. Neither of them has the most impressive work resume. Assistant Room Chef and Line Cook. Hard work, yes, but "Executive Chef?" No. I do agree that they probably want to keep the remaining woman-- we'll see.

Sam is trained at Johnson and Wales, and is also a NYC Executive Chef.

Marcel. He is both a Master Cook, and trained by the Culinary Institute of America. That's a hard one to peg..

GUESS FOR NEXT ELIMINATIONS?
I think the final three will be: Sam, Elia and Ilan.
I think the next to be eliminated will be: Cliff.
I think the next to win? Sam.

I am not a huge fan of any of them, so I decided to eliminate by logical profession and education. The judges seem to favor these professions and schools.

Anyone else paying attention to what schools and jobs are being eliminated?

There's a part of me that wants Cliff to win, but JUST because he is a self-taught executive chef.

However, my guess for final contenders would be Sal, Ilan and Elia (in that order)

excellent analysis.

My final 3 prediction is:

1. Sam
2. Elia
3. Ilan

I think the will have a man and a woman facing off again in the final 2.

There is also the "good TV" factor..I forgot about that part. I think that even though his dish was "boring" he's going to Hawaii because Marcel has some talent, but also makes good TV. It might also be the chef's way of eliminating some of the embarrassment of what happened in the "prank gone wrong."

I don't think Marcel should go to Hawaii. I am not surprised that he is going, though.

Although I am sorry to be right on this one? I am even MORE sorry for the reason Cliff was eliminated. I must admit, watching Cliff hold down Marcel WAS frightening! They were definitely mismatched in strength, and Marcel was woken up from sleeping first. (caught off-guard) No matter how they felt about Marcel? He did not deserve that. -Marcel didn't have to be rude to the judges about it, though. "No apology needed from you." Might be true, but she was TRYING to be nice!

Makes me happy to see the previews about Tom slamming Marcel about "behavior in the kitchen"

Everyone left now has an excellent education. IMHO, this means that as far as technique goes, the playing field is even.

Some of the seeming disparity in the titles of their current positions may be a factor of slight differences in age and may also be a factor of the type of restaurant in which they work. It's much easier to be an executive chef in a smaller establishment than a larger, higher profile one. I don't know about their particular places, but titles don't always mean the same thing everywhere. So I'm willing to cut a bit of a break here, while still giving Sam the edge as his title connotes the most experience.

I thought both Sam and Ilan behaved the best among the guys as far as the incident goes. I can certainly understand the temptation to torture Marcel. Heaven knows, he bothers me enough to want to whack him. But Cliff was completely out of line and took it way too far. I'm sad this is how he left (though it seems he would have gone anyway), but it was completely deserved.

I'm now cheering for Sam. He stayed out of the wrestling match/head shaving. And, though he really wanted to punch Marcel, he was the only one who came through and helped him plate during the competition. He has grown in leadership ability since the supply store meltdown.

I am torn between Marcel and Sam. I definitely think Sam has the leadership qualities to be Top Chef, but I have liked Marcel (and most of his dishes) since day one.

I don't think Elia is emotionally mature enough to be a leader. She is still very young though, and with her cooking skills I think in a few more years she will be doing very well for herself.

Ilan? Meh. No strong feelings one way or the other. Although I am positive that I saw him cooking at Casa Mono when I was up there last spring.

5. "I like Marcel"

but mostly because everyone hates him.

he doesn't seem to be all that bad... i mean, i watched this season six times already (friggin bravo reruns everything a bazillion times) and i can't pinpoint why exactly they can't stand him.

he seems like every chef to me: confident, arrogant...

he makes foams all the time. who cares?

he tells them to keep the fridge doors closed. UM, it's a fridge. you're supposed to keep the doors closed! he's not wrong about the things he says. i just don't get it.

6. "RE: I like Marcel"
Marcel bugs me just because he reminds me of every dweebie, snotty geek I've ever known. I don't mind dweebs or geeks, but the snotty sends me right over the edge. He goes out of his way to act superior, with very little evidence as to why he's so much better. Do I think he's a pretty decent chef? He's pretty good, but certainly not the best or most talented one there. I think it's pretty clear that Sam and Elia have the most natural talent in creating dishes and then preparing them correctly. It's also quite clear that Sam has the most leadership ability. I think that, with some more experience, Marcel will do very well. But he's not the top chef in this bunch by any stretch of the imagination, IMHO.

I've known a lot of chefs, either through my own work in food service or who worked for my sister. The arrogant ones are not all that common because you won't last in that business unless you have something extraordinary to overcome that handicap. The vast majority of good chefs are confident, which is quite another thing. Currently, Marcel is arrogant and isn't special enough (hence my disdain for his foams. This is how he thinks he's special?) to warrant a pass on the attitude.

7. "i don't care"
i know that the's arrogant. i know he isn't the greatest chef.

but it makes me feel like maybe he IS better than the rest of them if they are hating him so intently. usually people just ignore people or something. i was shocked when sam flipped out on him in the store. shocked when that idiot told him why don't you get some salt and paprika come to new york and i'll show you how to cook (what a loser). i think cliff was a moron for waking him UP and basically taking a joke WAY too far.

anyway the point is that i don't see how one person could be SO annoying that *everyone* in the competition hates him so much. it seems to me that there must be a better explanation. like maybe they're jealous of him? or maybe they just needed a scapegoat to gang up on and they chose him.

either way it seems unprofessional of everyone and childish.

i do hope marcel wins, but i'm doubtful that he will. so far, despite any evidence suggesting they are actually capable of rational thought, i think the judges have made wise elimination decisions thus far, and i expect them to choose the true top chef this time.

9. "RE: i don't care"
I agree that you would usually just ignore the arrogant idiot under normal circumstances.

However, in the heat of the competition and the stress of living in close proximity with him, his arrogance and snottiness becomes more and more difficult to ignore. I know how I'd react to Marcel under that circumstance. And that's just based on what we've seen. I'm guessing there's plenty of footage of annoying Marcel that we haven't seen that would explain the level of animosity.

My final contenders would be Sam, Ilan and Marcel. In fact, given all the grief he has gotten ,my pick to win would be Marcel.

In regards to the incident, I'm not surprise Cliff was asked to leave. Rules are rules for a reason. It's one thing to play/joke around when both parties know what's going on. It's a completely different story when you forcefully pull someone out of bed and wrestle/restrain them to the floor.

Sam, Ilan and Elia are no better than Cliff in my opinion. Just because they didn't commit the attack themselves, doesn't excuse the fact they stood by and said/did nothing for at least several minutes. One wrong move by Cliff and Marcel could have been seriously hurt.

Oh definitely. And the least of Cliff's problems should be that he was told to leave. Talk about grounds for a lawsuit. And I saw the whole thing as anything but a prank.

I've thought of Cliff as a time-bomb from the time he bullied Mia.
I think the whole lot of them should have been thrown off for not stopping it but then, that would leave Marcel.
BRAVO couldn't have *that.

So now we're left with four, not three. Would've like to have seen two and some seriously revealing competition and now we won't.
But I'm looking forward to seeing some beautiful scenery so all is not lost.

Ilan might just give Sam a real run for his money although Sam appears the likely victor at this point to me. Too bad the field is so crowded in the finale.

Some keep saying the finale and talking about the four remaining but I thought they sais TWO would be eliminated in Hawaii?

Leaving just two for the finale?

As for Cliff and what he did: What a big bully! Another case of the so called *IN* crowd being bullies....I feel as another that ALL were at fault.....by standing around and not doing anything to me was just as bad. High school all over...where the in crowd stands around while one of them bullies the one of their choosing.

And I don't feel Cliff was sincere in his apology..reason I say this is they show him apologizing to everyone (And hugging them) else before he apologizes to Marcel..and Marcel was right there. A sincere person would have gone to Marcel first. (course that scene could have been edited to show it as it did).

As for the judge balling them all out...good for the judge! They all deserved to be kicked off for allowing it to continue as it did.....if nothing else whoever was doing the egging on should have been kicked off.

This is NOT the Real World show where *children* go amok.

well there are 4, but they still have one more elimination week before the finale on 1/31.

so they could still eliminate one or two people before the finale on 1/31.

My favorite to win the whole thing is Sam. I know this is a Top Chef competition and how you feel about a person shouldn't necessarily influence what they do in the kitchen, however, here are my thoughts.

Elia has given up at least twice, she is petulant when things don't go her way and she should have been eliminated when Mia quit. She is a good cook but needs to grow up.

Ilan has turned into a real asshat. His cooking has been pretty consistantly near the top, but I just can't get past his demeanor.

Marcel is my next favorite to win the thing, but I'm not quite as impressed with his creativity. His cooking is decent enough to have him in the top 4, but I think he is lacking to be a top chef.

Sam has had consistantly good food and excels when it comes to the finer art of cooking. The stuff like the beach side grilling was an anomally and I don't hold that against him. He has shown signs of being a good leader too. Unfortunately he too has not been prisitine in his actions, so that can sour things, but overall I think he is the most complete. He did rise above his feelings for Marcel and help him out even though he felt originally that he didn't need to.

I used to like Cliff until the whole fiasco with bullying Mia, from there he only got worse. His behavior with Marcel was deplorable and I am glad the judges got rid of him. I think he would have been gone anyway, but we'll never know.

16. "RE: Any Culinary Arts training/ profession favorites inTop Chef?"
Favorite to Win: Sam. To me, he's the most consistant and refined chef in the room. He does well on both quickfire and elimination challenges. He's not Harold, but he's as close as we are getting this year. Simply put, he knows what to do.

Marcel: To me, he's a teenager in a master chef's body. What do I mean by that?

He acts like a tough guy, even a bully if you will (but not so much bully). However, he cowers down at any real reaction. He, well not expects, but seems to need the help of others to succeed and he simply will not admit. Sam asked for help, and got a no. But without Sam, Marcel may not have plated.

He is exceptionally uncomfortable around new experiences, and no, I don't mean the shaving of the head. I mean he simply cannot deal with strong personalities. He gets along with Elia because she's soft and nice and caring to everyone. However, he meets a Cliff or Ilan or Sam, and they have strong personalities and opinions and may not have their time to focus on Marcel and tend to his wants and needs. And that gives him problems, and it's up to him to show how he handles it. I think he handled it very well with the shaving incident, but not so well in other places. Mocking Betty consistantly reeked of immaturity (from both sides really). And the fact that pretty much everyone is annoyed with him makes it seem like it is constant enough to be a problem.

But the new experiences in the kitchen hurt him too. I don't know, it just seems like he's always "uncomfortable". Chocolate isn't my forte. Junk food, are you kidding me? Everytime he seems not to like his task.

He has talent, but he just doesn't give off the air of "Top Chef" to me. He has potential, but the fact that they didn't ask Marcel if he wanted to shave his head, rather tried to force it, just reeks of isolationism to me. And from my limited experience in food service, a strained workplace is not an effective one.

Elia: Oddly enough, I think she's been one of the better cooks, and ten years from now, she may have run through this competition almost as good as Harold did. Too inexperienced at this point and really, the lack of confidence hurts. If she was annoying like Marcel, she'd be dead in the water without support from her friends. Infinitely more likeable than some other people. But still, some rookie mistakes and the lack of confidence hurts her. I love the simple but good dishes though. We don't need seven sauces on an animal that exists only in West Zamibia to have a good meal.

Ilan: Just seems like a non-threat to me. Often solid but very "up-and-down", and to me, that seems like a recipe for disaster. At some point, he'll have to win the competition, and he may fall.

I think it ends with Elia and Ilan going home next week, with Sam beating Marcel in the finale. Personally? I'd like to have Michael over any of them for TV purposes. Probably the best attitude this season.

My current favorites are Elia and Sam. At the very least I hope Marcel doesn't either win or come in second, I find him extremely unimpressive.

Totally hated that Cliff was eliminated that way. Granted, Cliff absolutely deserved a dressing down for the attempted practical joke on Marcel; but let's face it, Marcel's pouffant is just pretentious and moronic as all getout.
