LAST EDITED ON 06-15-07 AT 06:05 PM (EST)Caught it last night (10:00 is just way past my bedtime). What did we think of the opener? I like a lot of the chefs and am glad to see there appears to be a high skill level in the field of contestants. I liked just watching Hung slice things. I was also pleased that they booted Suicide Son because it would have been painful to watch him continue; he was so over his head. Hung and Tre appear to be strong right out of the gate. In fact, I almost wanted to eat that hideous "protein" stuff Hung made. Where was Queer Eye Guy? I was looking forward to seeing him. I'm still not thrilled to see Gail back. Anthony B. was a fine/funny guest judge. And? I honestly liked what Padma wore. As opposed to enjoying the WTF-ness of her usual sartorial choices. You?
Am now watching three cooking shows. Continue to "enjoy" Hell's Kitchen but can we really even call it a cooking show? At least these people seem to, well, COOK.

Hiya Ging!I did enjoy the show. The cast is much more polished then seasons past and worlds more talented than any "stunt-cast member" on Hell's Kitchen or Next Food Network Star. Aside from Hung and Tre, who are both extremely talented guys, and most likely long-lasting chefs...I really believe a woman will win this season. The batch of ladies on this season are damn good. I feel like I saw Ted already, but maybe that was because of the countless ad showcasing his mug that played during any one of the 6 times a day that the show airs. And I LVOE Padme! But what's with the ginormous scar she has on her arm? Have I just somehow missed it from last season or did something serious happen to her since then? I'm actually quite shocked at it because I have a similar scar but try my hardest to cover it up most of the time. I guess I'm kinda proud of her.

This is one of my favorite shows. I'm always amazed at how quickly they can create something, without a lot of planning time. I know that they usually put the winning recipe on their website, but it always looks to complex for me to plow through. I love Anthony Bourdain's books and thought it was great when Howie quoted from one of them. I also love Anthony's show on the travel channel. Padma had the scar last season, but I never heard why. She is gorgeous. Her husband married way up, because he is not so attractive at all.

Just to offer a little bit of a detail. When she was co-hosting at the View, they discussed the scar. It was, as mentioned before from the car accident, her arm basically saved her mom's life - it swung next to mom's head and it took a brunt of the hit. Because of that Padma is really proud of her scar and asks to airbrush it.
