I was a fan of Celina Tio going into this (I loved her on Next Iron Chef). It's been disappointing to see her in the bottom so much. Naomi Pomeroy drives me a little crazy, but I started rooting for her when I found out what her charity is. I LOVED the bug challenge. I'd like to see it repeated in the next TC season, with chefs preparing bugs for the masses. I was disappointed that Curtis refused to taste some of them. "RE: 2011 Masters" I like this format better, maybe because it is like the original. I think these chefs seem to have a harder time dealing with some of the challenges. The very first episode had 4 chefs who couldn't plate on an elimination challenge. I can't stand Naomi either, although her dishes always are on the top. She actually did a good thing in the beginning by organizing everyone, but she just kept going. I noticed that they all called it puddin also. Why does that one guy have a groomed unibrow? One thing I don't like about this year's format is that we seem to get fewer "big name" celebrity chefs. I have only heard of three or four, with no real familiarity with any of them. I think think length of time of the competition formatted this way probably ruled a lot of chefs out. It was nice in previous seasons to have a few "favorites" on there to see how they stacked up against some of the lesser knowns. You know, to see if their "fame" means they still have rockin' chef chops. Once again, pudding is the contentious item. The first Masters were actually who I would consider Masters. I think that's why we got rotations, they were busy in their own right. These chefs are more like wanna be masters. Some either had their own cooking shows (Michael Chiarello, Rick Bayless) and some had really, really famous restaurants/jobs and yes, had been judges or talking heads on other shows (e.g., Hubert Keller, Art Smith, John Besh, Rick Tramanto, Wylie Dufresne, Graham Elliot, etc.). Therefore, anybody that watched the Food Network sometimes (or even PBS in the case of Rick Bayless!) would recognize some of the names. This crop? Is it possible that the true "Master Chefs" have already been on this show and/or now on other shows? While I like this show, I'm not sure that these chefs are really that much different than the chefs on Top Chef, except are possibly a few years older. Which is why the old format worked with there being different contestants for each round...the time commitment each chef would need to make to Top Chef Masters was seemingly a few days to a week at the most. "Ran into Curtis Stone" LAST EDITED ON 06-15-11 AT 02:08 PM (EST) Not watching TCM, but I did run into Curtis Stone the other day. Taking a mini-staycation to Tucson (stayed in state). We wanted to eat lunch at a Man V. Food location (Lindy's on 4th), but wait was long, a/c wasn't up to decent level and 10 year old daughter thought it was too "Biker Bar". So we headed over to the old El Charro Cafe on Court. Curtis was eating lunch with another chef and a pretty brunette. The owner was thrilled and treated everyone in the dining room very well. Food was great too. Don't know who wins TCM, didn't ask. Yes, he is that tall. ETA: He was apparently doing something at the Desert Diamond Casino south of Tucson.
