"Rank the Winners!"
Posted by Das Mole on 12-20-04 at 10:55 AM
LAST EDITED ON 12-22-04 AT 01:23 PM (EST)OK, since I'm just in a ranking kind of mood lately...and all the time, here's another fun ranking thread. Rank the winners, but based on how well you thought they PLAYED the game, not upon basic liking, although you can do another list with that as well, if you so choose. Here are the winners of all the seasons, and their little pictures in case you forgot what they look like, or if it helps you remember them:
Season 1:

Richard Hatch
Season 2:

Season 3:

Ethan Zohn
Season 4:

Season 5:

Brian Heidik
Season 6:

Jenna Morasca
Season 7:

Sandra Diaz-Twine
Season 8:

Amber Brkich-(Mariano?)
Season 9:

Chris Daugherty
*Phew* Boy, did that take forever. OK, list 'em up!

Hey, does anybody know:How to not get that little box w/the red square, green circle, and blue triangle to show up next to images I post, and
How come my last image doesn't work?
Thanks

You don't need the IMG tags around the images. Just type in the image URL, including the http:// part, and it'll show up fine.

Richard Hatch (duh)
Jenna Morasca (she played a great game)
Tina Wesson (first succesful, and almost only, to play Under The Radar and Win)
Chris Daugherty (to overcome those odds)
Sandra Diaz (loud mouth, awesome lady, almost under-the-radar)
Amber Mariano (zzzzzz)
Ethan(zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzlook at who he went up against)
Brian (YAWN, look at who HE went up against)
Vecepia (I'm sorry, what? I must have fallen asleep again)

I exactly agree with this, except that I move Vecepia above Ethan, Brian and Amber.
Everyone hates Vee because she was so UTR, but I think that was epmb's choice more than anything. HE chose to keep her off-camera, and could have featured her more prominently. Considering she had only one ally and managed to win anyway, I think she was a decent winner.
But of all the winners, only Rich and Jenna were really good. Kelly W. is my all-time second favorite player and it's ironic that she lost to the #1 guy. I think Kelly could have won any season except the first two and the Amazon.

LAST EDITED ON 12-20-04 AT 03:16 PM (EST)this is kinda hard, if only because most of them won under such different circumstances. i would consider a tie for #1 and a tie for last place.
1. Richard Hatch (Borneo) & Tina Wesson (Austrailia)TIE: Richard created the game as it has come to be played (yada, yada), Tina played as a mastermind while entirely avoiding being targeted. I for one, would not consider her under-the-radar. She didn't dominante challenges, but she was consistantly up in the mix and she kept high face time.
I would have voted for both of them.
3. Brian Heidik (Thailand): i have reservations ranking him this high, because i think he was cast in a season of inept players. yet i justify it because he realized this, took advantage of it, and rode it to $1M. i do not believe he would have been as lucky were he cast on a different season.
he would have had my vote, over clay.
4. Sandra Diaz-Twine (Pearl Islands): one of the more controversial winners. i personally think she played a darn good game. she fell out of the majority allience, yet managed to reach the final 2 unscathed (unlike Vecepia, who was targeted by the remaining members of the Rotu 4..for being lazy, etc.). that really counts for something in my book. her strategy was very simple, but highly effective...and while it might not have been a 6-1 sweep, i firmly believe she would have beaten Fairplay if he'd been her F2 partner.
although i also think Lil played a good game, I would have voted for sandra.
5. Jenna Moreasca (Amazon): i would have ranked her behind tina and rich, if only we hadn't been shown footage of her whining and wanting to quit. even so, her jury performance is still the best we've seen. she even persuaded people who loathed her to vote for her. i'm not 100% sure, but i think had i been on that jury, i would have voted for her.
6. Chris Daugherty (Vanuatu): i find him over-rated as a gamer. he did win, though..i give him that. his great move was realizing he would be facing an emotional jury, rather than a strategic one...and he capitalized on that, so more power to him for his awareness.
in this case, he would have set my b.s. alarm off so loudly that i would have voted for Twila.
7. Ethan Zohn (Africa): seems like a great guy and i'm sure he is. game-wise, though...he didn't appear to do much. he gave a pretty terrible jury performance, but somehow pulled off a big win anyway. neither he nor kim appeared to be anything magnificent as far as strategy goes, but had i been on the africa jury, i think i would have probably voted for him too.
8. Vecepia Towery (Marquesas) & Amber Birkich (A.S.S.) TIE: I think they're pretty much neck-in-neck for worst winner. if i HAD to pick an ultimate worst, i'd opt for Amber..if only because Vecepia didn't have another player that pretty much dragged her into the F2. the reason i rank the both of them together, is because (just my opinion, of course) they seem to have both gained their wins via votes against their respective F2 companions, rather than for their own merit. as much as i love good final tribal council drama, i don't like seeing sour grapes juries voting based on hurt feelings. I would, without a doubt, have voted for Neleh and Rob.

Gosh, this is tough just cause there are several winners who I wasn't exactly impressed with but here goes nothing.1) Richard - invented the game as it exists today. I still wonder how/if the game would be different if Kelly W had won.
2) Brian - horrible game, dominant player.
3) Amber - she beat the best, even if she did ride Rob's coattails.
4) Chris D - in the end, I didn't like his game but he overcame incredible odds to make it
5) Tina - Defined the UTR strategy and perfected it
6) Ethan - won in the most impressive way, by being honest and honorable
7) Sandra - hop-scotched across the minefield on her way to the end
8) Jenna M - beat a bunch of morons in the worst cast assembled
9) Vecepia - worst winner ever, there were about 10 people who deserved to win more than she did

1. Richard Hatch (Borneo, S1)- If it weren't for him, I don't know if anybody would've thought of the alliance by now. He was a genius, and even though he was obnoxious, he played the great game.2. Ethan Zohn (Africa, S3)- Well, I don't think there was really any competition, but he did play the game pretty well in my opinion, despite the lack of motivation from anybody to win the game.
3. Chris Daugherty (Vanuatu, S9)- Unfortunately, Chris did play a great game, overcoming the odds of losing to all the women. If this was a personal liking thread, he'd be all the way at the bottom. I couldn't stand him. I wanted him to go since the first episode, and sadly he just kept clinging on. But, kudos to him for winning against the six women he got stuck with, so...yeah.
4. Brian Heidik (Thailand, S5)- Just like in the case of Ethan, I don't really think there was any competition at all in the entire game, everybody was rather dull in the season, except Robb and Shii Ann, who both unfortunately got voted off earlier on. Anyway, he played a fairly good game, so yeah.
5. Sandra Diaz-Twine (Pearl Islands, S7)- I loved Sandra as a person, and thought she was great and all. However, this whole season is a blur to me, I can't even tell you who came in third, I think it was Jonny Fairplay, and I think Darrah came in fourth. Otherwise, I am clueless. I know Lil came in second, unfortunately. Thank God it wasn't her. What a doofus. Anyway, I don't really remember how she played, but I think I liked the way she played, I can't really remember. So, she has to be put in the middle of the pack.
6. Tina Wesson (Australia, S2)- Tina...I don't think she deserved to win. Riding coattails and not saying anything, and winning no Immunities isn't how you win the game. She was a weak player, and I was glad to see her voted off first on All-Stars.
7. Amber Mariano (All-Stars, S8)- I don't really think she played the game at all. If we're talking about deserving the money, I think Rob deserved the money more b/c he played a better game than Amber, however, he was a jerk. I think Amber only made it to the final two b/c of the protection that she ended up getting from Rob, which sucks, but that's just the way the cookie crumbled.
8. Jenna Morasca (Amazon, S6)- She totally did not deserve the money. Neither did Matt. If anybody should've won it, it should've been Rob. I thought he played a great game, but sadly he didn't make it. I don't think Jenna did anything, to be quite honest, except strip for chocolate and peanut butter, which I suppose proves that looks can sadly get you far in life.
9. Vecepia Towery (Marquesas, S4)- Probably the most undeserving winner in Survivor history. She did absolutely nothing. "This is TOO. MUCH. DRAMA." That's the only thing I remember about her...as she was chopping the coconut or whatever she was doing. She was staying out of the way, unnoticed at that point, looking from the sidelines, and to me, that's how I feel she played the whole game. Why she won and not Neleh, I have no idea, but it sucked and I was pretty pissed when she won the game.
Whoa, hey. What a coincidence...all the guys were the top 4. I'm not sexist or anything, that was by pure accident. Hm. I guess a lot of the female winners, or actually all of them, IMO, didn't actually play and just cruised to the end.

i ranked him a little lower than you did, but i am in agreement with your summation of chris. he obviously DID do something right, he won against all odds. at the same time though, i also found him to be the least likable winner of all. my first inclination when making my own list was to put him at the bottom, but i just couldn't justify it with the likes of Amber and Vecepia winning their respective seasons through what seemed an awful lot like default. i love doing these lists, but it's really difficult to mentally separate likability from good gameplay.

1. BrianNever had a vote aganst him, and always voted for the person who got booted. Won a few challenges as well. Just a dominant performance.
2. Richard
King Richard defined how the game is played. He controlled the game and had it all planned out when everyone else was just there for the experience.
3. Sandra
Never had a vote aginst her. Killed Lil in the final vote. She played from a position of weakness for a lot of the endgame and still came out on top. I liked her spunk as well which boosted her in my ranking.
4. Vecepia
Vee got dealt a bad hand with the switch to Rotu and basically was in a position of weakness until the Rotu 4 were overthrown. She was then in the final 4 with a fairly tight group and still outlasted them all. Flip flopped from alliance to alliance to keep herself in the game.
5. Chris
I liked him. I was happy he won coming back from being outnumbered 6-1. I rank him high on likeability, but he was very lucky that the girls self-destructed around him. A decent player, but not one of the best.
6. Ethan
Good guy. I think he got carried to the finish by Lex and Tom. They did the dirty work and he was also fortunate to sit by one of the worst final 2 opponents ever. Lasted the longest of all the winners in All Stars, for whatever that's worth.
7. Tina
I am waiting for the release of the Survivor Australia DVD set. That way I will get to look and see if all this Tina hype is justified. I only remember that she was lucky that Colby pulled off one of the stupidest Survivor decisions ever. Right now, she ranks near the bottom. Could change my mind though.
8. Amber
Boston Rob plowed the road, allowing Amber to skate to the final 2. Rob made a ton of enemies, and Amber hid behind him. All Stars was a terrible season to boot. Best looking winner though
9. Jenna
Good looking, but undeserving of the win. She almost quit, and then she got lucky with immunity. Hated the 'cancer' card she played and she was very immature throughout the whole season. Just hated her win, but have to give her credit for pulling it out though (good jury performance). Still easily at the bottom of this list though.

1.Vee- won despite the fact that she was constantly in the minority, the way that she played Kathy at the end was nothing short of genius2.Brian- dominated the game and made it look easy, however he got real lucky that Ted was so stupid.
3.Jenna - completed the triangle the best out of all the players. She owned that final four once she got there
4.Richard- Way over rated even though he won with an alliance he wasn't even the first to form one. If not for Sue Stacy would have owned that game
5.Sandra- made some ingredibly stupid moves along the way but her strategy was simple and got her the victory.
6.Tina- won only because she was in the dominant alliance. Her decision making ws questionable although she does get extra points for convincing whats his face to be dumb.
7.Amber- contributed nothing but hey if I had rob to carry me throughout the game I wouldn't do anything either
8.Ethan rode an alliance to victory nothing more nothing less.
9.Chris-Worst winner eva his stupid decision making led to the destruction of his first tribe, he had to be dragged to the finals by twila and if not for an extremely stupid Jury would have gone down in flames.
Thank you for giving me honor in hat form.

My list is shorter, since the 3 seasons I missed, I can't really say how i liked the winner's performances.
1. Richard Hatch - Simply the best.
2. Chris Daugherty - I honestly think that his survival under 6 vs 1 odds was nothing short of brilliance; Twila helped, but he steered himself at the end with a rather interesting final tribal performance.
3. Tina Wesson - Managed to let Colby take her to the final two, when he should have taken Keith. I would've slapped him upside the face if I'd been on the jury.
4. Ethan Zahn - I'm indifferent about Ethan. He was a nice guy, but his win couldn't have been any less surprising; Mama Kim wasn't much competition.
-------Big, enormous gap---------
4. Amber Mariano - I'm conflicted about Amber. On the one hand, she's the first winner that I saw coming about 5 episodes down the road, when no one else was suspecting her. On the other hand, her strategy of sitting back and letting Rob take the blame rubs me both ways. On the one hand, it was a great way to both scheme AND stay UTR... however, Rob M was so obnoxious about it that, while I'd have voted FOR her, I believe that most of her votes were AGAINST Rob.
5. Sandra Diaz-Twine - For some reason, I haven't actually caught the finale of PI, AS, or Vanuatu live. When I read about Sandra's win the next day, I nearly had a coronary. I couldn't figure out how she'd won, and I still can't.
"RE: Rank the Winners!"

1 - Sandra
The perfect UTR game. She was brazen and in your face. She sucked at challenges, but she played brilliantly. She was true to the alliances she made, and when her alliance was booted, she moved on and made a new one.
2 - Brian

I don't like the guy personally. But he took the alliance game and was the Pagong-master. He dictated the pecking order like no one ever has.
3 - Rich

Gotta give the first winner his props. He did mastermind the first game. Without him, we'd have never known what an alliance was.
4 - Chris

Anyone who can pull of a victory after being the last person in his alliance like he did deserves some major kudos. He should have been 7th, but he got first. Definitely a player.
5 - Tina

If you can convince someone to give you a million dollars, then you are a good player. That's why Jerri gave Tina her vote, and that's why I think she was still an excellent player.
6 - Ethan

I think Ethan was a good player, but I didn't see him as a standout. Lex was actually a better challenge competitor, and more of the leader of the tribe. I'm not sure what the pecking order would have been had Kim not won both of the immunities (though Kim was definitely leaving without winning IC). Between Tom, Lex, and Ethan, that would still be such an even race. But the chips fell in Ethan's favor. Ethan has done the most for the community at large since being the winner, so he definitely has a lot of redeeming qualities.
7 - Jenna

Another one of my not so favorite winners. But she played up her weaknesses better than anyone ever has. She lost a lot in my eyes when she quit All-Stars (she shouldn't have gone to begin with), but in her own game she took advantage of the right situations at the right time. Not the perfect game, but enough good moves to win.
8 - Amber

A coattail rider. This was Rob and Amber winning their million plus, not Amber winning her million. Though I do have to say that Amber did make a shrewd move in getting Jerri voted off before her. Had she not, then things could have been a lot different.
9 - Vee

The ultimate UTR. She won a crucial immunity when she was going to be booted. But she wasn't the player. She was just there to take advantage of other people's mistakes, like John (revealing his alliance), Sean (opening his big mouth), and Kathy (revealing her boob).
"RE: Rank the Winners!"

OK, I figure a bunch of people have posted their lists...I guess. So, I'll do an average rank thing and we'll see where everyone falls. If you haven't done yours, I can add it in and then...yeah.So, as a reminder, here are our 9 winners:
S1- Richard "Dicque" Hatch
S2- Tina "UTR" Wesson
S3- Ethan "Nice Guy" Zohn
S4- Vecepia "Vee" Towery
S5- Brian "Used Car Salesman" Heidik
S6- Jenna "Stripper" Morasca
S7- Sandra "Other UTR" Diaz-Twine
S8- Amber "Coattails" Brkich-Mariano
S9- Chris "Odds-Man" Daugherty
And here's how they ranked (NOTE- they're ranked comparatively):
In 9th Place, with a shameful average of 7.14, is...
...Vecepia Towery!
In 8th Place, with a not-so-impressive 6.86 is...
...Amber Mariano!
Scoring a 6.0 flat, coming in 7th Place is the lovely...
...Jenna Morasca!
With a slightly OK 6th Place finish, Ethan Zohn leaves tonight with a somewhat embarassing average of 5.75! Nice try, Ethan!
Now for our 5th Place winner...it is...
...Chris Daugherty, with a score of 4.63!
Falling just short of the top 3 is Tina Wesson with a score of 4.5, putting her in 4th! Way to go Tina!
And now...*dun dun dun*...the Final Three. Will the judges please remind us of who has yet to be named?
"Brian Heidik,Sandra Diaz-Twine, and Richard Hatch." Thank you, judges. Here we go...
Our second runner-up, with a score of 4.29 is...
...Sandra Diaz-Twine!
We are down to the Final Two, ladies and gentlemen!
Now for our 2nd Place contestant, who will take the 1st Place contestant's position if he cannot fulfill his duties...
Brian Heidik! WHICH MEANS: Dicque Hatch! YOU ARE THE GRAND PRIZE WINNER!!!1one
(Brian received an average of 3.14, while Dicque got a 1.75.)
Thank you, Cleveland! Goodnight!!
*Cheers and applause*

1. Chris Daugherty (Vanuatu, S9)- Chris overcame a slow start. He used great stratagy throughout the game. He seems like an all around good guy. Best winner so far!!!
2. Richard Hatch (Borneo, S1)- At the time I hated this guy. In fact I still think he's a jerk. He stratagy was great. He was a brillaint player
3. Brian Heidik (Thailand, S5)- This guy was really slick. He could sell ice to an Eskimo. He is quick whitted and always knew what to say. he did strike me as kinda sleezy.
4. Tina Wesson (Australia, S2)- A beautiful tall blonde mother of two. A nice lady who I was happy to see win. The only reason I don't rank her higher is I can't get over the fact that Colby should have taken Keith to the finals who he would have easily beat. It seems like Tina had this given to her.
5. Jenna Morasca (Amazon, S6)- Didn't do much to win. But an attractive young woman.
6. Ethan Zohn (Africa, S3)- Didn't do much to win. But he seems like a nice guy
7. Vecepia Towery (Marquesas, S4)- Flew under the radar. Nothing special at all about her game
8. Amber Mariano (All-Stars, S8)- Nothing against Amber. I just question whether or not she was an all-star to begin with. At the end, her boyfriend Rob deserved to win far more than her.
9. Sandra Diaz-Twine (Pearl Islands, S7)- This woman won because her opponent in the final 2 LIL was too stupid to take Johnny Fairplay to the final tribal council. She flew under the radar. In other word, she was LUCKY!! Sandra was the worst winner ever!!!!
"RE: Rank the Winners!"
Posted by cayugasong on 01-06-05 at 10:18 AM
1. Richard Hatch - inventor of the alliance, showed how to read others and adapt to further himself.
2. Brian Heidik - made numerous alliances and kept them secret, so that at the final Tribal Council, he still had people believing in him.
3. Sandra Diaz-Twine - remained flexible and used her delightful personality in the end to get to the final 2.
4. Chris Daughtery - followed Brian's strategy, but had many who were angry with him at final TC. Breaking the all-woman alliance was brilliant.
5. Ethan Zohn - used his "assistant coach" strategy to perfection!
6. Tina Wesson - made the right alliance and worked it to the end.
7. Amber Brkich - made the right alliance and was taken to the end.
8. Jenna Morasco - made the right decision when it counted - final 2
9. Vecepia - I barely remember her from Marquesas. She got the not-Neleh vote, not the pr-V vote.
