"Thoughts about the first episode"
First of all, this looks like it will be a good season. Hooray for every single one of them for even being on the show. It takes guts to thrust your fat self out into the public eye when you are already most likely very self-concious about how you look. I have respect for each one of them for taking that first step.

Secondly, I was surprised by how emotional I felt while watching most of the show. I'm sure part of it was that I related to a lot of them. While I am not "as overweight" as them, I am overweight so I guess it struck home for me. Funny thing is, I watched last season and didn't have the emotional reaction. The good thing is that today I finally unwrapped a workout video that I've had for almost a whole year and used it!

I was so glad to see that Ruben stuck to the program after he left and has continued to lose weight. Good for him!

Okay, the thoughts are swirling around so I'll stop writing and gather them together so I make some sort of sense!

I felt something too when I watched the first episode. I kept saying to myself ... you can do this too! Getting into shape is hard work. And I think that everybody will do a great job this season. I plan to watch every episode.

I think that Bob & Jillian would make a great couple!

I thought it was off to a great start. I love the choices for contestants, they seem to be really focused this time and all are on pretty equal footing as far as how much wt. they need to lose. Good luck to all of them.

3. "question..."
Did their weight loss all occur within the first week? That seemed excessive to me, 16-28lbs? (or something like that)

So far, I think I will enjoy this show, all the "losers" seem pretty likable.

Sometimes if you are very heavy were eating a fairly standard not so good diet and you go on the right kind of diet you can lose a lot of water weight in the first week or so. The diet you eat can determine how much water you carry around every day in your body. If their sodium intake is reduced and they are burning off some of the stored carbs in the body without fully replenishing them (which with the amount of exercise they do you could imagine they use up all the carbs they are eating) you can lose a fair amount of water especially if you are talking someone who starts off in the 250-400 pound range.

Last season a lot of them had a big drop the first week or so but then the weight loss really levelled off as they went from losing the excess water a bad diet can make you carry around to losing fat.

The rapid drop of a lot of water weight can be why some people love starting low carb diets as you drop the water, that won't last but the initial boost of dropping several pounds can be very motivating for some people.

You are so right about the diets. As a matter of fact sodium/salt was mentioned during the weigh-in after the first week. Wasn't it the guy that got booted was mentioned to have salted everything he ate?

Last season many of them lost lots of weight on the first week but the second week saw them lose far less weight and from what I remember some of them lost 1-2 pounds and a couple may have stayed the same or actually gained a pound.

Gosh, if I lost 28 pounds in that amount of time I'd be over half-way to what I need to lose!

by the skimpy top Jillian (blue team) wore. I realize it's probably to help the show's ratings and has nothing to do with her approach as a trainer. But, if I was a contestant and had to keep looking at her trim tummy while mine was out of shape, it would do the opposite of encouraging me. She's just so small that I would be certain I could never reach that goal.

Now, if she wore a regular t-shirt for a while and then switched when the contestants got more ship-shape themselves, then it might work as inspiration. But, to wear that from the very start just seems to be rubbing her level of fitness in their faces.

8. "Re: Skimpy Clothing"
Naturally they have to have a skimpy dressed female on the show to draw bigger ratings, I was offended that she was on top and between some of the guys legs while training. It just did not look like it was appropriate being as how many of the men are married. I wonder how the husbands and boyfriends would feel if the guy trainer acted like that with the gals.

I'm amazed by how beautiful a body can look if you keep it in shape. Jillian & Bob look WONDERFUL!!! If my body looked like Jillian's does I'd walk around in skimpy tops 24/7!!

It was great to see Ruben get fit and lose his excess weight. He somehow found the motivation to continue. I wonder where & why he found the motivation? Don't you?

It may simply be that he lost 17 pounds in the week he was there. I assume people were screened for a certain amount of motivation before the show, so I assume he wanted to lose weight. Losing a bunch of weight in one week can be enough to convince you that it is possible to lose the weight and that can be a big thing for a lot of people.

I think that this show is great. I love it. I really like Suzi (blond with glasses) on the womens team and Matt (the former wrestler on the mens team). So far those are my two favs. I can't believe how much weight some of them lost in the first week, like almost 30lbs... It is because how overweight some of them are. I love the trainers too. My preference would probably be to have Jillian as my trainer, she just seems so hardcore.... jmho.

If you watched the first season you would have learned Jillian used to be overweight just like the participants on the show. If she was some random trainer that never had experienced the difficulties of being overweight, then I might SLIGHTLY object to the way she acts and dresses, but that's not the case. She used to be in the same physical condition as the people she's training. I think this emphasises her right to push her team a lot harder and flaunt her physical fitness. IMO, her body is a constant reminder to her team of what hard work can achieve rather than an insult.

On another note, I wonder who's going to consistantly lose lots of weight this season. Last season, Ryan melted away every single week.

I saw that episode. But Jillian really wasn't that fat. She was not even close to being overweight like the shows participants. She had only 35-40 pounds to lose, (if it was that much.) It's not like she had to lose 120 pounds!

Now don't get me wrong, ... a 40 pound weight loss is damn good. But when you change your lifestyle & lose 100 -to- 200 pounds or MORE! ... now THAT'S weight loss!!
