"Finally, the finale."
Is that the proper way to title the thread? I know there is a format we must follow otherwise the great gods and goddesses of whateverdom will strike us all dead.

Anyway, from a rank amateur's viewpoint:

Overall—Benjelle looked tired, Travis and Heidi looked refreshed.

Solos: Samo samo. Enjoyed Benji's stage dive.

Disco: Travis wayyyyyyyy overrated on this puppy. Heidi did all the work and looked great. Oh yeah—Travis picked her up but really struggled with it.

Waltz: I thought it was better than the judges said, but I'm rather amateur on technique. I rewatched the PBS dance contest a couple days ago, and realized just how limited both men are on this show. Still, I enjoyed the gracefulness of Benjelle.

Benvis: Fun, crazy, goofy. The only way that white guys could pull off hip hop. Would rather have seen them do a slowwwww waltz.

Heidi/Donyelle: Zzzzzzzzzzzzzz. Judges nailed the criticism on that one. I've seen that routine done by the Broadway cast as well as the movie. You do not smile (!) for this number. They are supposed to be jaded hookers. Gotta have the attitude.

Travis/Donyelle: Choreography overrated. Song was slow and easy but Mia had them on speed. Would like to have seen Mia's slower, more complex and innovative choreography like the sunflower number done with this song.

Benji/Heidi: Zippy and wonderful. Benji seemed a bit off at the beginning, but kicked in halfway through. I liked the way his footwork precisedly matched the xylophone. Heidi was dynamic.

Final number: Yep, I hate to admit it, but Travis stole the show here. His intensity and focus was right there. He was the character.

I may get whacked for this but I think the overall shiners tonight were Heidi and Travis (except for Travis' muffing of the disco number). I'll probably change my mind when I see this again.

1. "RE: Finally, the finale."
I would agree with you for the most part. I guess I'll turn this into my "love list" for this week, since a post for that hasn't been started up yet.

1) Heidi and Benji - Salsa
Energetic, fun, and amazing partnering all the way around. After last week's mambo, I expected this to be good, and I wasn't disappointed.

2) Travis and Benji - Hip Hop
I don't like how Gimmicky Shane's stuff has started to become, but I thought that they DID do a good job and pulled it off.

3) Final Group Act
Interesting concept for it, and I think they pulled it off. Unlike most (including Mary, who I typically agree with), I don't think that Travis stole the show - I think that Heidi did.

4) Donyelle and Benji - Waltz
I enjoyed it much more than the judges did, I guess. It certainly wasn't perfect, but it was good.

5) Heidi and Travis - Disco
Travis was CERTAINLY over-hyped for this performance, but I expected that to happen. It was a decent performance, but Heidi did most of the work.

6) Donyelle and Travis - Contemporary
I HATE HATE HATED this choreography. I know Mia likes it to be grounded, but that was just absurd.

7) Heidi and Donyelle - Broadway
ZzzZzzZzz....

My favorite of the night wasn't (as these rankings would leave you to believe) Benji, but Heidi. I honestly hope that she wins, but I don't think she has an ice cube's chance in hell of doing so.

I think that Donyelle put herself out of her misery tonight. If she wins after those three dances, there's something certainly wrong with America. She has a great career ahead of her, but it shouldn't include wining SYTYCD.

Honestly, I hope that Travis doesn't win. The judges have been pimping him like crazy, because they realize that he would fit Celine's show far better than any of the rest of the remaining dancers, and that turns me off of him greatly. I don't think that him winning would do the show justice.

Finally, I think that the winner will be, by a mile, Benji. I've thought that for quite a while now, and it's just because of his absolutely HUGE fanbase. In my mind, he should come in second behind Heidi. Either way, I hope the two of them will continue to compete in West Coast Swing, and perhaps even expand into the area of Latin dance together. They showed the past few weeks that they can do it successfully!

I dont know how they'll do the count , if they'll give us from 4 to 1 but I agree Travis got major props last night and it may be a close contest between him and Benji for the prize. If it's truly the audience and america voting though, I think Benji takes it in a landslide.

Other than that, I'll ditto Dan for the most part. Benji and Donyelle had the best solos even though Donyelles was from her audition. Heidi and Travis do just about the same solo everytime and it was old several weeks ago.

3. "RE: Finally, the finale."
Ok, I voted for.......

wait for it......

tribey, ahem, perk up baby~!

TRAVIS!!

I really loved him last nite and was the only one that I felt compelled to vote for, I don't know if I was manipulated by the judges, and I don't care....I still don't think he will win but I think he will probably come in 2nd (if we even are told). I didn't vote for Benji bc he has enough of you doing that for him already I think Mia will get Travis a job even if he doesn't win

Interesting, I voted the first hour or so and it was BUSY more than I got through only in about 1 in 8 calls I made.

I thought Donyelle was the weakest but I think she is just really tired of dancing on a bad toe. She will be fine.

My order:

Solos:

1. Benji.. that last part was great and he changed it up and actually pulled off a dance to that song

2. Travis-- I liked this, it was mostly the same but he was flipping all over the place

3. Donyelle-I love this routine

4. Heidi-eh, it was a bit diff but still the same old same old

Duos

1. Benji and Heidi-This was fabulous

2. Donyelle and Travis---I LOVED this...I thought Porgy and Bess....if they can sing, they can go into any light opera company...

3. Trani oops I mean Tranji...or is it Benvis?-- I LOVED THIS I laughed the whole time and I thought the dancing/acting was great. I actually thought they said here comes Trani not Tranji at first...if they start dressing in Heidi's little dresses, Watch out I like how they did a little shout out T-shirt raise to Dmitry!

4. Heidi-Travis-I thought this was ok but I didn't get all the hype either

5. Benyelle- Waltz that was a HORRIBLE song to dance a waltz too.. it wasn't as bad as the judges said but not up to their standard

6. Donyelle-Heidi-I really hate this type of broadway no. and I did not like this at all...they should have let them do hip hop too ala Shane

I loved the last no...the choreo and concept was fab and sorry but Travis did steal that show...I LOVED his all black outfit...when he walked out first I think I actually said OMH bc it was so good! Tribey why oh why did I not listen to you from the start?

My order Should be:

4. Donyelle
3. Heidi
2. Benji
1. Travis

Will be:

4. Donyelle
3. Heidi
2. Travis
1. Benji

4. "RE: Finally, the finale."
I can't believe that was the last performance show. *sniff sniff* I am going to miss watching these people (read: Benji ) so much. They really need to release this season on dvd!

Anyway...

Heidi/Travis - Disco - They said it was going to be fast, fast, fast! But I thought it was medium, medium, medium. I wasn't nearly as impressed as the judges were. There was a lot of hesitation before each lift. I didn't really like the choreo, too many tricks and not enough dancing. It was alright, but not great.

Benji/Donyelle - Waltz - *gives evil eye to judges* This was not as bad as they made it out to be. The blatant Travis-bias was seriously pissing me off last night. Benjelle for the last time. *sniff sniff*

Benji/Travis (AKA Tranji *snort*) - Hip Hop - LMAO! When they came out in those outfits, I could not stop laughing. It was great. Fun, funny, nice synchro, all around a great routine. Dorktastic! *Mary scream* And when Benji lifted up his shirt?! Holy six pack! *fans self* Nigel must've been seeing something different than me, because he said "That's horrible! Bring back Dmitry!" *looks at Nigel like he's crazy* *daydreams about Benji's six pack*

Heidi/Donyelle - Broadway - WTF was up with those eyelashes? That was so distracting. I agreed with the judges that this lacked attitude, and it was pretty boring.

Travis/Donyelle - Blues Contemporary - Eh. I guess it was pretty good. They danced it well, but I wasn't really a fan of the choreo.

Benji/Heidi - Salsa - Great, as usual. I don't think these two partering together on a Latin routine can go wrong.

Group number - Loved it! I love Wade Robson's choreography. I still watch that "Zombie routine" from a couple weeks ago all the time. I didn't think Travis stole this routine, but that may be because I usually keep my eyes glued to Benji. Travis who?

Benji's solo was awesome and fun, as usual.
Travis was great as well. That spin he did? Where he started standing and then crouched down? I don't know anything about dance, but that looked really hard.
Heidi, same as usual. *yawn*
Donyelle- it seems like she doesn't really plan out her solos. I didn't really like it.

Now, who to vote for? Obviously the majority of my votes went to Benji, but I also threw some to Travis, because I think he is the best suited for Celine's show and I really like Travis. He's a cutie. But I don't love him the way I love Benji. I mean, Benji got on his knees and begged us to vote for him! How could I possibly say no? *grin*

We have to wait a whole week for the results show? Wahhhhhh! But yay! that it will be 2 hours.

Phew. I think that's all I have to say. For now.

5. "RE: Finally, the finale."
I agree with most of what S.B.Dan has said. Here are my comments/rankings --

1. Heidi/Benji - Salsa -- They are awesome together, because both have so much energy and showmanship & I was happy Nigel pointed out that Heidi is the strongest female partner & Benji the strongest male partner. This was great!!

2. Travis/Benji - Hip Hop -- I never stopped smiling or laughing through this routine, including their antics during the "critiques." My fave couple of the night .

3. Benji - Solo -- Benji is the "bee's knees" (though I still don't know what that is supposed to mean, but it is a good thing). Benji is the most entertaining of the final four. He just never lets up. Can't wait for the tour!!

4. Final Routine -- It was a very entertaining routine. Travis & Heidi were the standouts, of course, but that's only because they "fit the part" the best of the 4.

5. Travis - Solo -- Finally, Travis puts more variety in his solo and I really enjoyed it. He is a great contemporary dancer.

6. Donyelle/Benji - Viennese Waltz -- I liked this much more than the Judges, but I actually noticed some of the small problems with it even before the Judges commented and I'm not an expert. I still thought they were beautiful together and Benji is the only male partner who makes Donyelle appear smaller & lighter than she is and that means a lot to me.

7. Heidi/Travis - Disco -- Not a fan of any of the Disco routines & I don't know why they insist on having them in there, but oh well. Heidi was the star of this routine. Travis was good, but as everyone else noted, he was WAY overrated.

8. Heidi - Solo -- It was fantastic, but it's very similar to all her prior solos, so nothing to knock me off my feet.

9. Donyelle - Solo -- I really like Donyelle, but after tonight, I am convinced that if it weren't for the fact that she was partnered with Benji for so long, she would not be in the final 4.

10. Donyelle/Travis - Contemporary -- Choreography was overrated. I have love/hate relationship with Mia Michaels and the last 2 weeks she's been on my hate side . Wipe that smug, snobbish look off your face and give us one of your more intricate routines. Hated it.

11. Heidi/Donyelle - Broadway -- I don't know what happened here. I wonder if Donyelle's limitations and injury prompted the simplistic routine? I expected so much more. The choreography was bland and they just grinned their way through it. Shocking to be a finale routine.

Overall Comments/Assessment:

I actually believe Heidi is the best overall/versitile dancer of the remaining 4 and if this competition were solely based on all of that, she would win. . . .

HOWEVER, my fave is and always will be Benji and that's why I voted for him the entire 2 hours. (I did vote for Heidi about 10 times, though, because I think she deserves runner up.) Benji is my favorite and I hope he does win.

Travis is my 3rd of the four. He is an excellent contemporary dancer and he has a personality, but he was only so-so for over half the season and didn't start to really shine until after he was able to shed Martha and get out of his rut. He improved in all the other areas of dance (ballroom, hip hop, etc), but with Benji & Heidi in the competition he was just out-performed, out-danced and out-shown. He's still great, though.

Donyelle is a sweatheart and a very good dancer, but she is by far the weakest of the 4. I really do think she would have been gone much earlier if she wasn't paired with Benji. As soon as they were split up, her weaknesses became evident.

Can't wait to see the results show next week and what routines they will have with all the finalists coming back. More importantly, I can't wait until 10 a.m. this Saturday when I get to try to get the best tickets possible for the SYTYCD tour. IMO, this show is much better than AI and I could watch it every week. It's going to be a long agonizing wait for next season

Loved the Benvis love match even more. It was great to watch again and again.

And like the Benji/Heidi salsa number much better this morning as well. Could appreciate more of Benji's subtlties.

My voting? For Benji—lost count how many times I hit redial. I can appreciate Travis' talent, but am tired of the judges' hype.
Wanted to vote for Heidi, too, but didn't want to steal votes from Benji just in case this came down real close with Travis (like a handful of votes is really going to make a difference anyway).

Rankings

1. Benji/Heidi- that salsa was smoking hot!

2. Benji/Travis- Hip hop, I never laughed so hard watching two dorky guys dance.

3. Benji/Donyelle- Walkz, I thought it was loverly.

4. Travis/Heidi- normally I love Disco, but this was eh.

5. Travis/Donyelle- I don't think I get Contemporary some times.

6. Donyelle/Heidi- way too simple.

Solo Rankings

1. Benji- that was fantastic!

2-4 everyone else, same old same old... but I'm confused... I thought Donyelle's background was Hip Hop did she switch?

I think it was the same solo and same outfit. I'll rewatch her edition and solo last night later just to confirm. Syren swears she did hip-hop at her audition but I just dont remember it. I remember her getting halfway through the routine and Nigel falling all over himself to stop her and give her a ticket to Vegas.

Baby...Not hip-hop...a hip pop. LOL...

She did this little move in her audition where she kinda pops her hip to the side and it was soooo sexy. I rewatched just that part several times wondering how she did it. During this performance though the hip pop wasn't there.

12. "RE: Finally, the finale."
Heidi/Travis disco: i tend to like the disco numbers, and overall it was pretty good, but i didn't think that the lifts were very smooth--and that was a little distracting--Heidi really did a great job.

Benji/Donyelle waltz: i thought the judges were a little harsh, but it seemed like Benji was distracted or something--there were a few times when they were a little off--need to watch it again.

Benji/Travis hip hop: that was just too cute--they both have a dorky/nerdy look and it worked really well for the routine--Shane Sparks did a great job coming up with a routine that fit the 2 of them.

Heidi/Donyelle broadway: i thought this routine was a little strange. it seemed like they didn't know that they weren't supposed to be smiley sassy. i also thought it was a little simplistic for a routine in the finale.

Travis/Donyelle beautiful: i really loved this one--i actually got lost in the performance. i was a little shocked when it was over, because i was so into the routine.

Benji/Heidi: it was great. i have to give it to Heidi--she is a really good dancer. i always love Benji, i just wish they would mention how much/long they have danced together.

solos: i loved Donyelle's solo in the audition--this one seemed slightly different, but they didn't let her finish in the audition, so i'm not sure--i do think the demanding schedule and her injury show in her dancing, but i still thought it was great. i could watch Travis and Benji all night. Heidi's solo was the same as always.

Finale: this routine was amazing--i love Wade Robson's choreography. i thought they all nailed the attitude and the performance--Heidi's boots could have been distracting--but everyone was spot on.

13. "Finally..."
(The following message should contain way more winking smileys then any one person could possibly handle. Lots of grinning smileys and "emy" smileys as well. Plus a couple of hearts. Each one bigger than the one before. But, I just couldn't figure out a fast or simple way to include them, so faux-place them wherever you want.)

Since I see that people can appreciate Travis' obvious talents but still want to cling to that rubber faced sissy, Benji. I can now settle in to a long and loving relationship with my swoony Travis. All to myself.

I lvoe this kid!
So talented, so friendly, so entertaining, just my dream "reality" boyfriend. (Yes, having this showmance did come at the cost of BurtonReynolds from my "allowed to do" list. *whimper*)

I really enjoyed listening to the judges praises and they really should know. I was so proud of Travey for continually bringing the heat. Knocking the competition out of the group number and having the 3 best partnered routines of the evening.
His solo, although reminiscent of past solos, was a lot more energetic and fun than in the past.

My decision has been made ... repeatedly ... to the point of joint stiffness ...
Plus, Benjites are just plain scary. Their fervor may be the clinching vote for "Dumerica's Choice" but Travis will always be the winner in my heart!

* Sorry, emy. I ain't sharing.
* I'd pick Benji to win but sloppy seconds aren't my style. >>definite winky here<<

19. "To Nigel Lythgoe and Jean-Marc Genereux: "
Thank you, Nigel, for this transforming experience of this season's SYTYCD. Please not only tour w/it, but put it on CD. When Dimitri does that first Samba to the blackeyed peas singing over Sergio Mendes/Brazil '66, he really doesn't need a partner and he makes me want to immediately go into the kitchen and prepare some fejoada.

Watching this creation of your through your producing, I have seen such an open-minded, creative, perceptive individual that has created something more than lovely for us. Thank you, again.

Yet, in this final four show, I saw a basic, regular "human being" emerge from that creative genuis visionary that you are. Really, guy. I know ya' can't help but have your weakensses/biases. And the final four are nothing less than tremendous -- ALL of them. But, really. Replay the disco number, please and look at the first couple of lifts and then talk to us about smoothness, lines and a beat.

Then, replay Benji/Donyelle's waltz and your comments re: both. Good grief!

Anyway, it was so great to see the Viennese waltz performed by such a non-traditional couple and the little debutante cotillion type walk, the promenade, I've been dying to see it done somewhere other than the brief format of Laurence Olivier as Darcy and whoever as Caroline Bingley in the old version of Pride and Prejudice.

Translation, compliments of freetranslation.com:

"Thank-you for that. This is a friendly interpretation. But, it is necessary to know that when it is a matter of a colored girl participating in the final rounds of a such "competitions," you suffer with her a little as choreographeur, because these small ugliness nuances, human prejudices enter even an all small little in the scheme. I call them the small ones "merditons" that enter into the life of the human beings.

Of all mania, thank-you of a so beautiful creation."

(I changed a few words that were left in French to what they should be, but for the most part, that's the unchanged machine translation. If I really wanted to spend a bit of time on it, I could get a better translation, but meh.)

Thanks!

And clever little dig there, FOXmePLEEZ.

Tribe strikes again!

I noticed that her earlier outfits made her weight an asset, but her later ones did not. I wonder if this was a non-verbal way of trying to make her lose.
